Xendros could not believe it. He did not trust his ears alone, and had to turn around to confirm what he just heard.
But his ears did not fool him, or else, his eyes must have been fooling him as well.
Maelle was also the same. The dread and imminent fear in his eyes was evident. He knows very well what was going on, and threw himself in front of Xendros protectively despite being the smaller one of the two. The beetle inside him punished him with constant gnawing at his guts for not listening to its warnings.
But he was the complete opposite. He could not understand how these two would react in such a way.
He was filled with such joy. He wanted to embrace them, to press his lips on their faces and greet them with much happiness in his voice to do justice to his infinite euphoria from reuniting with them once more.
