Chapter 558 - CH31 (553), Police (1)

After spending the first day at the administration office memorizing rules and regulations, I spent the rest of the week, so the next three days working through the behavioral guidelines of the respective units/departments.

Those guides described how the officers were supposed to handle/act during their job and what the appropriate reaction towards certain situations was, and while there were certain similarities between the guidelines, there were also quite large differences between the officers dealing with, and excuse me if it sounds condescending, real crimes and "petty" or small crimes.

At the end of Palkiday, I had gone through everything Officer Jameson pulled out, and after proving that I had truly already memorized everything, Officer Jameson told me that I could expect to be transferred to another unit on Arcday. He said to come back on Arcday for the exact details before dismissing me for the rest of the week since I was done with my 4-workday week.

I had to admit that I was really happy that I would be able to enjoy prolonged weekends for the next 6 months, and I decided to use my first plus 1 weekend to do something I had not done for some time now, which was a proper collective grooming session.

Decision made, I hurried back to my dorm and entered Utopia. I then informed my main team of my arrival and told them about our/my weekend plan. I was able to feel their excitement and the first ones directly teleported over, while the others rushed over as well.

After greeting the Teleporters, I used my second and third thought streams to create two Earth (Psychic Aura) Clones as my assistants. The two mainly acted as my hands as well as feet, but only did some minor actions related to the actual grooming such as applying creams and spraying water.

This meant that I was not performing three grooming sessions at once but simply performing each grooming session at roughly double my usual/solo speed. The reason for that was pretty simple, my clones were not good enough yet.

If my clones were indistinguishable from me, then no one would know if the one "treating" them was the original or a clone, and there would be no feelings of letdown no matter how small, which would definitely happen at least on a subconscious/internal level if I did that right now.

For now, my control over the earth/ground was not fine enough to make the movements of the clones indiscernible from those of a regular human, but once my control reached that level, and I used colored earth to form the bodies, I would be able to use a physical illusion over the clone bodies that would make them look exactly like real humans, in this case, me.

As long as I used the same thing on myself, not even my psychic types would be able to tell us apart without breaking the illusion, which they naturally wouldn't do.

Honestly, the only way to use multiple bodies without all these shenanigans would be to create actual clone bodies of myself without any consciousness or active mind, or in other words, brain-dead bodies that I would be able to control using my aura and psionic energy.

I was pretty confident that the creation of such bodies was within the realm of the possible, but I honestly did not feel comfortable with the idea of keeping the equivalent of meat suits of my body around, not to mention the legal as well as ethical aspect of it, so my current Earth Clone was the only alternative option available for now.

Anyway, together we used the whole three days to groom and massage all of my main team. It was certainly a lot of work, but despite the slightly exaggerated number of "clients", we managed to satisfy everyone by "working" for close to the whole day, on each day. Indeed, working was nearly all we did during these 3 days.

Well, aside from sleeping and eating, as well as some necessary bathroom breaks. However, I still thought that the result was worth the effort. Not only were all my Pokemon in pristine condition, but they also really enjoyed the treatment, and that was enough for me. They certainly deserved it as far as I was concerned since they always gave their best during their training.

Ultimately, our first prolonged weekend passed, and come Arcday I was back at the Celadon Police HQ. I directly headed to the administration office and Officer Jameson told me where I got assigned to. In the end, it turned out that my first proper unit was the parking enforcement unit, and frankly, I did not really look forward to checking parked cars to see if there were any violations.

Heck, the fact that parking enforcement officers were actually considered auxiliary cops took me by surprise, but I guess the alliance decided to simply put them under the police instead of handing them to another department.

Well, as auxiliary cops, they also had the task of keeping an eye out for any suspicious situations and reporting them to their higher-ups, which they were able to do in tandem with their parking enforcement job since the two did not interfere with one another.

I was pretty sure that was what allowed others to call them officers without laughing, and it was the only part of their job that seemed interesting, even if that whole arrangement gave me an "only look, but don't touch" impression.

Still, it was the unit I had been assigned to, so I headed to their office, where someone welcomed me before assigning me a partner with whom I would go out on "patrol". I noticed that there were no Junsa family members in the parking ticket/auxiliary unit, which kind of made sense since I would have been surprised if one of them had worked in such a "low-level" unit.

Heck, there had been nearly none in the administrative unit, so I should have expected it. Besides, no matter how large a family was it was impossible to fill a lot of positions in each Police Station considering the number of cities in Kanto alone, so seeing only a few of them in each station was probably the norm.

Though I might get to see a few more than the average since this was the Police HQ of Celadon City. I knew that the Police Chief in charge of the HQ and the police in Celadon City in general was from the Junsa family so that alone showed me that they were still in charge.

Regardless, I was not impressed with the work I had to do, and I was really thankful that I only had to spend a single week with that unit before I was moved to the traffic unit. Honestly, not only had the work been mostly boring, but I even had to listen to some people whine about the fine I/we wrote them just a few moments before they showed up.

Actually, that had been the only part that I found slightly amusing since the rest of the job consisted of checking cars and writing tickets if necessary. We failed to come across any kind of crime that required us to report back to the HQ.

The worst we came across was some pedestrians doing some littering while relaxing on a bench, but those guys and girls swiftly cleaned up and apologized after a single warning, so we ended up not even reporting them.

Still, while the upcoming stint with the traffic police was not much of an upgrade in my eyes, at least I would get to sit back in the passenger seat and simply relax while my assigned partner drove us around. I would be able to relax unless someone broke the rules, at which point we would be able to intervene. I was not sure if I would be able to witness a car chase or not, but I had to admit that I was kind of looking forward to that.

At the end of my two-week tenure with the traffic police, I got to recreate the famous "Do you know why I stopped you?" question a few times, but I only got to be part of one chase which happened on Mewday of my second week on patrol. The chase was of the special kind since the ones we raced after were two idiots on Pokemon and not some regular car driver.

Two dumb junior trainers who got drunk got into an argument about which one of their Ride-Pokemon was faster, so they, in their addled minds, ended up deciding to settle the argument with a race, which was how Frank and I ended up racing/driving after a Dodrio and a Tauros while I repeatedly asked them to slow down and stop on the side of the road using the patrol car's inbuilt speaker.

Thankfully, the drunk duo was cognizant/mindful enough to not cause any accidents/destruction during their drunk riding/racing, or this whole case would have gone quite differently. I was thankful that it did not go that far.

Eventually, the Tauros' trainer was the first to react and pull to a stop, even though he only did it after my sixth declaration, which led to the Dodrio guy stopping as well. We got him as well when he actually rode back to our side and gloated about "winning" the race because the Tauros guy stopped first.

It took him a while to process that he was in trouble, and I really had to stop myself from laughing at his stupid behavior since laughing would be against the regulations I read in the guidelines. Ultimately, the two got a fine, with the Dodrio's trainer getting a bigger one, along with a warning to avoid another incident like this one since repeated behavior such as this could end up with an investigation into their competence/qualification as trainers.

They had to drink some sobering tonic afterward to ensure that they were fully functioning before we allowed them to leave, and I had to admit that watching them turn sober and realize that they had f**ked up was funny as well.

Sadly, that was pretty much the only part that I would classify as interesting as far as my two weeks, or 8 days with the traffic police were concerned. Still, I got to tie up my first month having experienced a car chase of the special kind, so my stint with the traffic police ended on a high note, even if most of it had been rather bland.

Nonetheless, at least the traffic police got to go out, unlike the new unit I was assigned to at the start of my 2nd month with the police. My new assignment was pretty much a desk job since I got transferred to the IT department, and it was not the cybercrime kind of IT department, but the ones making sure that the tech at the police station worked and that the security, as well as traffic video feeds, were secure.

Frankly, it was about as boring as it sounded, and while I did not want to sound rude, I could not help but wonder why these guys/gals got to be called officers at all. They were pretty much glorified IT guys, and I personally thought that this had been the most boring part so far discounting the first week I spent memorizing stuff. Unsurprisingly, there were no blueheads in this department as well.

By the time I clocked out on Palkiday, I was bored to death, and I actually prayed to Mew in hopes that I would be transferred to the next unit on Arcday. Nonetheless, after that quick prayer, I decided to forget about the week I suffered through and focused on my prolonged weekend instead.

I was not in the mood to cook something, so I made my way to the local branch of "Mito's Meat Paradise" for some premium meat dishes. On the way to the restaurant, I passed by a Pokemon stylist salon with a picture of a Furfrou on the glass panel, which made me remember that I wanted to look into getting one of them for Utopia.

Obviously, I did not stop heading to Mito's just because I remembered that, but I did look into nearby Pokemon Stores/Breeders while waiting for my food after ordering a bunch of steaks.

Honestly, Furfrou were rather rare in this part of the "human world", at least the ones that did not already live with someone else, so I had no idea if any of the places I marked down would have one available, but I decided to try my luck once I was done eating since I had only listed the stores that had at one point showcased a Furfrou.

I set out towards the first store as soon as I left the restaurant, but I had to leave the store empty-handed. The next five places resulted in the same disappointing experience, though one of the stores did actually have a Furfrou. The only problem with that one was that the Furfrou had already been set aside for someone else, and any attempt at negotiating on my part got rebuffed.

Anyway, those failures left me with only 4 more options, and it was only at the second to last store that Fortune decided to favor me. The store clerk I was speaking with told me that they had a Furfrou that arrived just today and that I could check him out if I wanted.

He even added that I better avoid delaying my decision if I was truly interested in Furfrou since the species was quite popular here in Celadon due to all those stylists and groomers, so it was possible that the Furfrou would be gone by the end of the day or tomorrow at the latest.

I naturally wasted no time and had him lead me to the Furfrou. Furfrou's attention landed on me as soon as I stepped into the area they set aside for him, and after I asked him if I could pet him, which he allowed, I took a look at his status sheet since I wanted to make sure his potential was not catastrophic.

'Species: Furfrou

Gender: Male

Type: Normal

Potential: Deep Green

Stage: Bronze-Stage (high)

(Genetic) Modifier: None

Abilities: Fur Coat, Guard Dog

Talents: None

Affinities: Normal'

I ended up feeling lucky enough since I would have already been satisfied if his potential had been any shade of yellow. Deep Green was already pretty awesome compared to that, so I directly asked Furfrou if he would be interested in going with me. Furfrou nodded and I turned to the clerk to tell him that I would be taking Furfrou with me. The rest of the transaction was pretty straightforward, and 10 minutes later I left the store with Furfrou's Pokeball stored in Utopia.
