Later that day I let Furfrou out of his Pokeball and he was lucky enough to have his potential raised to blue, though nothing else happened. I placed his habitat on the top side of Utopia so that it was somewhat close to both Ali/Gallade and Shedinja's places. Not that Furfrou seemed to plan to stay there all that much since he asked me to make a quaint little house for him in my area so that he could guard the place for me.
I explained to him the nature of Utopia and that he did not need to guard my place, but he insisted on it, showing why the old kalosian royals used his species as guardians, as well as why Furfrou was currently the only known species with the Guard Dog ability.
Well, at least it was like that before Furfrou became the model species used by stylists and groomers. Now the species was sought after because of their fur and the fact that they went along with the wishes of their partner, allowing people to give them all kinds of "styling" chances. Still, below that model exterior, a loyal and steadfast guardian was buried that only waited to be released.
Anyway, after Furfrou joined us, Ali copied Furfrou's Fur Coat ability, but the result showed that my plans based on Fur Coat were not going to work. It seemed that I had misunderstood the function of the ability in a manner since it could not be used in the fashion I wanted it to.
Furfrou's Fur Coat ability did not actually double Furfrou's endurance value. Instead, it doubled the resilience/toughness of his fur, effectively resulting in Furfrou suffering only half the damage he would have otherwise suffered.
In a battle, the result was practically the same with Furfrou suffering less damage, but in fact, his parameter values remain unaffected by his ability, so the plan to make use of the increased racial value to speed up Ali's training/progress speed fell through.
I should have expected that, especially since the name/title of the ability was a pretty solid hint, but I let myself get carried away by the possible benefit. This also meant that Huge Power and Pure Power were the only abilities that truly affected the base/racial value of any species.
While this was unfortunate, Furfrou was already here and the misunderstanding/misconception was my fault, so I just ignored the matter and simply told Furfrou that he could have his little house before carrying on as if nothing happened. Ali followed suit, so the matter of Fur Coat was buried without a sound.
Over the next two days, Furfrou began to blend right in with the others, and he struck up a pretty fast friendship with Enji/Arcanine and Nyx/Umbreon along with her Eevee Squad. I was quite happy to see the matter reach a nice conclusion.
Anyway, Arcday arrived once more, and I made my way to the Police HQ while hoping/praying that I would be informed upon my arrival that I had been transferred to another unit. Unsurprisingly, no one was waiting for me at the entrance to tell me that my hope had come true, and I made my way to the IT unit.
That was when I was told that my prayers had been answered after all and that I had been transferred to another unit. Granted, it was the dispatch unit, but I honestly would take having to take phone calls and ask people what their emergency was any day over spending another day with the regular IT unit.
Regardless, I thanked Peter for conveying the transfer orders to me, before I headed straight toward the dispatch unit's place. My entrance into the room attracted the attention of the dispatch officers, as one of them stood up and approached me to confirm it I was the newbie sent to them by the higher-ups.
After I told Officer Carter that I was indeed the one they were told about, she had me follow her to her desk/station, before she began to quiz me on the content of the dispatch officer handbook I had been forced to memorize during my first week. She only stopped the "test" after close to 20 minutes and who knows how many questions.
Once Officer Carter was satisfied, she told me that I had to move between the dispatch officers for the rest of my shift today and listen/observe how the officers handled the calls they/the police received, so that was what I did for the next 9+ hours, excluding the breaks.
At the end of the day, I could freely say that some of these emergency calls were hilarious. From what I had witnessed, roughly 2 or 3 out of 10 calls were true emergencies, and about 7 out of 10 calls were "emergencies" without any acute danger, but still cases that still had to be dealt with.
However, roughly 1 out of 10 appeared to be calls that were funny, if not hilarious, in one way or another, whether that be due to the caller, the case they called about, or a combination of the two. From what I got to witness, one of the callers had appeared rather high when he called.
He told the dispatch officer in a panicked tone that some rogue psychic or ghost-type seemed to be messing with him in his own home. The man said in a slightly dreamy/high tone that he could smell colors, see sound, and that the world seemed to be randomly spinning from time to time, which he associated with the previously mentioned Pokemon types.
When the dispatch officer asked the man for his address and if he had seen or noticed anyone suspicious today or if he had noticed anything wrong with or around his home, the man recited the address before saying that nothing like that happened.
The dispatch officer then asked the man if he could remember when everything started turning odd, and the reply he got was that it was shortly after the man ate one of the brownies a friendly young man had been handing out in his neighborhood.
That seemingly turned the man's attention to a plate with brownies since he said over the phone that he was going to eat some more of them, which he then did despite the officer trying to persuade him not to do that.
A moment later the man said "Oh, the world spinning really fast right now" before we heard a plop and the only further sound we heard was that of the man releasing some groaning sounds. After concluding that the guy was most likely no longer holding the phone since he did not react to the officer at all, the dispatch officer dispatched a unit to the man's address.
Later on, we learned that the brownies contained small amounts of Mago and Iapapa Berries, which should have normally been harmless but caused the man to fall into a state of confusion because he seemed to be hyper-susceptible. As for the man, he was fine after being fed a Persim Berry by the emergency personnel that had arrived on the scene.
Anyway, at the end of my first day with the dispatch unit, I decided that the work here was not too bad, especially compared to the IT and park ticket units. The next morning I directly headed to the dispatch unit, and Officer Carter told me that I was allowed to man a phone today, though someone was keeping an eye, or rather ear on me to ensure that I was doing a good/proper job.
I honestly thought I did a pretty good job, but Officer Carter warned me to remain serious regardless of how amusing I found a situation because I allowed a snort/giggle to escape me during the second out of three funny calls I picked up during my shift.
She told me I had to suppress the laughter until the call ended, and due to that "misstep," I was once again under watch during my shift on Giratiday. This time I managed to keep myself from cracking up and I did a good job at the calls of a more serious nature.
As a result, I was allowed to man the phone without any active supervision during my shift on Palkiday, and while leaving for my prolonged weekend that day, I could honestly say that I would not mind doing another week with this unit. That actually ended up being what came to pass on Arcday.
I did not receive any notice that I was being transferred, so I ended up working another week in the dispatch unit, which pretty much saturated my interest in the unit, leading me to once more hope that I would be assigned to another one at the start of the next week, or the one after that at the latest.
Still, I shelved those thoughts since there was nothing I could do to change the outcome anyway, and focused on enjoying the next three free days. I spent the first half of Dialday overseeing everyone's training before spending part of the second half giving an impromptu concert at the insistence of my Pokemon. I also streamed the concert through Utopia for the regular inhabitants.
After I sang for close to two hours, we had our dinner before we moved on to a movie night, which was me projecting a movie into the sky of Utopia for everyone to watch. Obviously, snacks, as well as drinks, could not be missing since those two were an essential part of enjoying a movie, and right after we finished the first movie, we directly moved on to a second one before dispersing since it was time to sleep.
Kyoday also began with me supervising everyone's training after breakfast, but unlike yesterday, I got interrupted roughly three hours into the session. Moka/Crobat flew over excitedly and told me that she got that feeling of completeness, so I checked her status sheet once she settled down.
It turned out that she had been right. Moka did indeed complete her limit-breaking phase, which meant that she was ready to break through to the dark gold stage. That was good news, and I directly made the corresponding announcement over UtopiaFM, before calling everyone in the area to move toward Moka's habitat for the actual breakthrough.
Once we made it there, we waited an extra 10 minutes to give everyone who wanted to witness her breakthrough a chance to rush over. Then we formed the circle around Moka, and I went up to her to give her a final good luck hug.
Before Fortuna/Togetic could do the same, Bruce rushed/flew ahead of her, and did it first. Nonetheless, a hooligan jumping ahead of her or not, our angel of fortune still gave Moka her traditional good luck hug before rejoining us in the circle.
Once everyone was in position, I gave Moka the go-ahead and she initiated her breakthrough. At the start, everything was going normally, but roughly half a minute into Moka's breakthrough, a lot of energy was suddenly drawn toward her, and she absorbed it all. Moka began to light up, and surprisingly, the intensity of the light was much higher than I was used to from the fortunate talent or modifier unlockings I normally witnessed.
While nowhere near as intense as the light released during an evolution, it was still quite bright which led me to the assumption that some bodily changes were probably taking place. It took some time, but eventually, the light died down and Moka became visible once more, signaling the successful completion of her breakthrough.
Looking at Moka I could not help but gape a bit at the change that took place. Her having grown a bit larger once more was something that was immediately noticeable, but it was much less shocking than the second immediately noticeable change she underwent.
Somehow, Moka ended up undergoing a color change and tuned black, like a pretty dark shade of black. At least that was now the color her main body was sporting, while her wing membranes were of a dark grey shade.
I really had no idea what had caused her color scheme to change like this. I mean, her current color scheme was nowhere near the color a Shiny Crobat had, so all I could think of was that she had unlocked some alternate Shiny modifier or some other color-swapping/changing modifier.
I mean the only other notable gene I knew that changed the coloring of a Crobat aside from the Shiny gene was the Ancient gene, which resulted in a dark brown fur/coloring, but this was definitely not brown unless I somehow suddenly turned partially color blind.
