Chapter 10 - The Unexpected

Evo's POV

"She did that?"

The next day, Andrew and I went to the gym together. Afterward, I told my cousin about the rumor and what she did to me. Instead of sympathizing with me, Andrew laughed at me.

"Yes," Evo said. "And why do you seem happy with what she did to me?"

"Because it is amusing," Andrew said. "When has a woman ever brought you under control?"

"I'm not tame. She's just intriguing to me." I said.

"Interesting?" Andrew asked. "

"How intriguing is that girl, and is it okay that she hurts you? Even though Zoey was upset with you, she couldn't slap you, but a girl suddenly piqued your interest and softened you."

"Do you remember what happened at school last time? You know I can't hear or read a messed-up or troubled mind, but there was this one time when I could get into the witness's mind—the woman who was so shocked she couldn't talk to the police."

"Yeah, I remember."

"Well, I can't tell if that person is a man or a woman, but the police called her Zero, and there's something about her that's the same as Bella Sebastian."

"Zero? Nice alias," said Andrew. "What do both of them have in common? You don't even know if Zero is male or female."

"It's weird that I can't read their minds."

"Okay. What's strange about that? You can't hear or read your mother's thoughts, either. I think that makes sense."

"That's not normal," I said. "Mom, I occasionally come across information indicating that my mother's mind remains unobstructed, and I remain hopeful about accessing it." However, Bella's and Zero's minds remain protected.

"You know, you're too curious about that girl." Andrew chuckled. "Didn't you say that girl doesn't like you?" He glanced at me. "Why not pursue her?"

"Pursue her? Are you serious?" I asked. "I can't pursue her because I'm curious."

"If you weren't initially attracted to her, you wouldn't be interested in her. You're attracted to her, but not because you want to date her. You are attracted to her because there's something about her. Something about her makes you want to get to know her better."

I smiled but didn't look at Andrew. "I don't want her to think I like her, so I stick with her. She's not my type."

Andrew chuckled and kept running on the treadmill. "Why do you think Cordova wants Bella and me out of USBO?" I asked.

Andrew shrugged. "Envious. Perhaps."

"Envy?" I frowned. "You mean he also wants to become an officer?"

Andrew smirked. "What's your plan?" He stopped the treadmill. "Are you going to get rid of the teacher who misunderstood what you and the girl did?"

"I want to." I stopped running on the treadmill and drank water. "That kind of person is annoying," I said after drinking. "Why does he follow him even though he doesn't know why?"

"Money can move mountains." Andrew also drank some water.

"Yes, I heard what he was thinking, and he knew nothing," I said as I stepped onto the treadmill. "That's why he was afraid I would follow through on what I told him I would do."

Andrew chuckled. "You threatened the professor?" he asked in disbelief.

I grinned, took my towel, and wiped off my sweat. I turned around outside of the gym when I saw a motorcycle on the road and glanced over to see a woman behind the wheel.

"Wow, she's awesome!"

When I patted Andrew's shoulder, he also looked outside. "Wow!" said Andrew.

Awe overwhelmed me, and I couldn't help but express it. The woman rider wore a plain white T-shirt, black ripped jeans, and white shoes.

"Wow, is the new Kawasaki Ninja 300 a sleek navy motorcycle specifically designed for women?" Andrew asked.

"Yes, that's it."

When that voiceless person stood up again, my smile went away. That woman on the motorcycle—she's something. I immediately took my bag and patted Andrew on the shoulder.

"I'm leaving," I said.

"What? Where do you want to go?"

I turned toward Andrew. "I'll go with him."

"Dude, you're crazy!"

"I am!" I laughed, and I quickly left the gym.

Bella's POV

I sped up my motorcycle when I saw a sports car following me. The vehicle following me was odd, but I didn't see any goodies coming from it, so I let it go and pursued it. I mounted my bike and set out along the routes recommended by Waze. When I finally arrived at the designated location a few minutes later, I left my motorcycle parked adjacent to the police car. And then I started to make my way into the building.

Uncle Eduard welcomed me as soon as he saw me. When the cops broke through their barrier, my uncle Eduard and I ran up the stairs. We entered a room, and as we did so, I saw blood near the window on the other wall. Things were all over the place, and the cops had already investigated.

I turned to Uncle Edward. I took one of my gloves off and put it in my pocket. I proceeded to sit down in front of the spilled blood. I put my finger in the blood that was on the ground. Instantly, like a lightning surge, the vision appeared in my mind.

I glanced at Uncle Eduard, and he approached her. "What did you see?"

Evo's POV

My car surprised me by stopping just a short distance away from the police car and the stylish motorcycle I had been following. There were police officers in the building, and they used a yellow ribbon when an investigation was underway.

"What happened here?" I asked.

I attempted to walk toward the police officers who were there. I simply glanced at the two police officers present.

"What happened here, sir?" I asked.

"This is a crime scene. You can't be here," the policeman said.

Our eyes met. "Okay, I'm just asking," I said.

"Get out now. A policeman said, "We don't allow civilians here."

I also fixed my gaze on the other police officer before walking away. I looked around and saw another building nearby, so I went straight. There was no front desk, so I went straight to the elevator. I immediately pressed the button for the sixth floor, but something stopped before the elevator door closed. I frowned and looked outside. Then I pressed the close door button again, but it still wouldn't close.

"Thanks for waiting," a woman said as she entered the elevator. She wears a loose-fitting T-shirt, pants, sneakers, and a bonnet. She even has a lollipop in her mouth.

"The truth is that I didn't wait for you," I said.

"Yes, you are. The door doesn't close, right?"

I scowled and said nothing. When the elevator door closed, the woman didn't even press it to find out which floor she was on. I glanced at him and could tell what he was thinking, but I didn't ask.

When the elevator stopped on the sixth floor, we got out almost one after the other and turned around. The woman smirked, grabbed my hand, and pulled me to the other side of the building. I was surprised by what he did when we stopped running, and I immediately let go of his hand. I looked out the window and saw the police investigating in the other building.

"Hmmm, you are interesting."

I turned to the woman. "What?"

"You're here because you're curious about the investigation, right?"

I didn't answer and simply looked away. I was surprised when the woman pulled me toward the exit.

"Hey, what are you?"

"Maybe you can jump."

"What?"

"Jump..."

I managed to catch a glimpse of the bottom, which was relatively elevated, aside from the gravel that would be my landing pad if I fell.

"Haist, jump, babe!"

Without warning, the woman suddenly pushed me, and luckily I was holding on to the railings on the other side. I feel like I'm going to have a heart attack.

"Damn, what is her problem?"

The woman landed safely on her floor and immediately pulled me up. When I stood up, I couldn't hold back any longer.

"Are you crazy?"

The woman smiled, then squeezed my cheek. "Let's go, and we'll investigate."

"What?"

"I saw you behind the science building last time looking at something, and you are the one who solved the case."

I frowned while the girl giggled. "Hmmm, I know that look. It's like, "How did she know? But guess what? I know." The girl winked at me. "So let's go inside."

"No, the police will be furious, and..." The woman grasped my hand, opened the exit door, and we proceeded straight to the room where the crime had occurred.

"Hi, guys," said the woman opposite the room door.

"Five!" Eduard said in shock.

"Montenegro?" Bella asked.

"Sebastian?" I asked.
