Chapter 20 - The Test (Part 2)

Evo's POV

'What are we waiting for? We're about to start, so why are we sitting here?' I thought.

After handing over my phone to Sir Eduard, I turned around and looked at each person in the room individually, and to my surprise, everyone looked back at me. That means I can hear what they're thinking, but because I'm wearing headphones, it seems impossible. When I hear strange sounds in my headphones, I hold my head. For a while, those beam sounds made me feel like I had lost my hearing. I winced as I felt a slight tingling in a nerve in my head.

I frowned when I heard a voice in my head. I'm unsure if that's real or just random sounds from the headphones. I frowned because the random sounds had stopped, but the noise from there seemed to stick in my mind. I didn't tell Eduard what happened because it could be part of the drama. Later, a man was running past me. He looked at me and then turned around. A woman was shouting in the distance, so I turned to the man and saw her holding the woman's bag. I knew it was a woman's bag because I had already seen her when I arrived. The woman was standing by the swing, and it looked like she had been waiting for someone for a while.

I turned to Eduard, surprised that I had heard what he was thinking. 'Why does he still stare at me? Will he not try to catch the thief?' Eduard thought.

I got up quickly. I made eye contact with the male thief. I can catch him. When I turned to Eduard, he was running away from the park. He also followed me. I don't know how it happened, but I can use my ability. I smiled. I wasn't sure if I could slow him down by manipulating his thoughts.

The man ran into the crowd, but I managed to find him. I knew what was on his mind. He intended to give the bag to the man he was passing. As soon as I turned around, I ran toward Eduard.

"Sir, a man waits for him to pass the bag." I noticed Sir Eduard frowning. I smiled. "I'll go after the thief, and who cares about the helper?"

"I will take care of it."

When I turned around, I saw Kaycee. She ran to me, and then she gave me a wink. After a while, the three of us stopped when we saw that the man had handed the bag to his partner.

"Good luck, Evo!" Kaycee whispered.

I smiled, and then I ran up to the train station. I looked behind me again and saw that Sir Eduard was still following me. When I arrived, I didn't know I had to buy a ticket at the booth, and there was a long line. I turned back to Sir Eduard, and he was looking at me again. I took a deep breath and went directly to the ticket booth. I told the guard what had happened, and they immediately contacted me. They gave me two tickets after I paid. Standing on the platform, I could no longer see the man. I turned back to Eduard again.

I closed my eyes for a while and calmed my mind. After a while, I could hear everything the person was thinking, but because I already knew who it was, I could easily pick out his thoughts. I usually walked and stood on the other side of the platform to ensure we were on the same train.

The train eventually stopped, and he boarded with many people. I did the same with Sir Edward. I stood up while holding the handle. I turned to my side, but Sir Eduard wasn't there. I frowned because I did not see him.

'Where's he?' I thought.

I heard his voice to my right, so I turned and saw him there. The man I was chasing was right next to him, but I'm sure he wasn't talking to me. Later, when the train halted at the first station and the man began to disembark, I attempted to intervene as best I could. I can handle it, even if there are a lot of people. I must strive for success.

I closed my eyes slightly, then opened them again. I focused on that man and entered his mind before he got off the train.

"Go back."

Before returning to Sir Eduard's side, the man trailed behind me. Sir Eduard scowled. I walked towards them, greeting those who were entering and exiting. After a while, I came up in front of them.

"It is not over yet..."

I looked at Sir Eduard first, then at the man. "It's all over. I've caught him."

"We haven't given you any information yet."

"Can I tell you something here?"

Sir Eduard raised one eyebrow.

We all sat in a coffee shop, but Sir Eduard and I were at different tables. I will tell him what happened and why I said the case was over, even though I have yet to ask who did it.

"When I first got to the park, I saw and remembered everyone there, and most of them made eye contact with me," I said. "The woman he robbed earlier was 5'4", skinny, wearing a polo shirt, denim jeans, and flat shoes. He found important things inside, like money worth 50,000 pesos, a costly phone, and jewelry." Sir Eduard scowled. "The man who stole was between 5'10" and 5'11" tall, quite muscular, with facial hair and a high cut. He was wearing a plain black shirt, ripped jeans, and rubber shoes."

I couldn't tell what Sir Eduard was thinking because he was paying close attention to what I said.

"He handed the bag to his friend, who would take it to their boss. The man is between 5'6" and 5'7" tall, wearing a yellow T-shirt and black shorts below his knees. He watches with his right hand and wears sandals." I said. "If I didn't stop him, he'd go down to Carriedo Station and meet his friends at a fast food place in the mall."

Sir Eduard did not speak. He took the headphones from me and put them on. He frowned, then glanced over at the other table.

'Haist Kaycee, I told you not to help her.' Edward thought.

"You're wrong, sir. Nobody helped me." Sir Edward stared back at me.

"What are your capabilities? I didn't see you using that."

"I did it, and you saw it." Sir Eduard glared at me. "I am telepathic. I can read people's minds, and I've gotten better at controlling them."

"You can use another person's mind to control him."

"Just like I did with the man earlier. If I hadn't done that, he would have gotten away."

"Who knows about your capabilities? Bella? Kaycee? Your family..."

"Just my cousin," I answered. "He helped me control my ability."

Sir Eduard glanced at the other table before turning back to me. "Don't tell them about your ability."

"Why?"

"Your ability is your advantage; therefore, they can't tell." I need you to confirm, but I can't put you on the field like Kaycee and Bella."

"However, sir, I am capable of providing significant assistance. Can't I? They will support what I have to say."

"That's my point..."

"Sir, I don't know if you heard about what happened in Subic."

"I know what happened because Kaycee told me, and Bella confirmed it."

"Then I proved myself to..."

"I know, but it is not enough. I already told you that..."

"The bag's contents were incomplete, so the man put the money inside before giving it to his partner. And the money..." I added. "He gave it to you."

Eduard was stunned for a moment, then he smiled. "Okay, I'll give you a chance, but there's one condition: no one should know your ability."

I smiled. "Yes, but why can't it?"

"That's because your mission is different from theirs. You are the only one who can help me, Bella, and myself."

I scowled. "How can I help?"

"You will also know, for now, that you are four, and no one should know you," Sir Edward said. "I'll give you your badge, Bella or Kaycee."

"What just happened? Why did you talk to Uncle so long?" Kaycee asked me.

Only, Kaycee, and Bella remained in the coffee shop after the others had left. Sir Eduard didn't say anything that would lead them to believe I had failed the given test.

"Did you fall?" Bella asked.

I smiled at them. "I made it."

"Really?" Kaycee said it in shock. "I told you that you could do it! Congratulations!"

"Congratulations! I hope we don't end up with a headache." Bella said.

"Thank you. I swear you won't get a headache." I said.

"I'll take care of you if Bella's head hurts." Kaycee giggled. "I think we should have a celebration."

"Alright, where do you want to go?"

"What if we go out to a bar?" Kaycee said.

"That's okay. Is it okay if I bring my cousin with me, so there are two boys?"

"You pay; it's okay," Kaycee said. "You're coming, aren't you, Bella?"

"I don't want to go to a bar."

"You're a KJ. Come along now. You and Evo will be part of our team. Your discovery of the truth is very close."

Bella turned toward Kaycee. Even though I didn't understand what Kaycee meant, I didn't ask any more questions. I got on my phone and called Andrew.
