LITTLE BY LITTLE
I wake up after some time. I see myself still lying on the floor. No one is perking around me. Probably I am dreaming. I stand up jerking my whole body to move but they are still there. Feline, Nathaniel, and the Top. They remain in their positions and they pay no mind to me. Like I do not exist.
"What is this? What just happened? Yes I get I did a wrong and I am used to staying by myself but why?
The boy I am to work with breaks me from my thoughts. 'If you're ready let's go. We've got no time to lose.' After he says that he walks out.
'I want my privacy. Do you mind?' The Top says as she points towards the door indicating I get the fuck out. I do as I was told. Is this what father means by "you know how she is? psycho?"
I catch up with boy Nathaniel after a few seconds managing to not trip on my boots. He walks smoothly and stealthily. I do the same. I am accepting all of this thinking in my mind that I am to blame for this.
'Where's Laylah?' He asks.
'Hun? Yeah, she's at home...'
'Drive me there.' He says walking past me opening the passenger's door before he sits. He wears his seatbelt before he shuts the door. What an arrogant fool!
I get to the driver's seat and I think "maybe I am being too nice". I give a corner smile. I set out to drive us for another four hours after we left Heritage estate by 1:00 pm. The top sure wasted my time. I took my time not rushing to get there. Giving excuses that I do not want to exceed the speed limit.
After three hours, it started to rain, heavily. I try my best to navigate properly. I have poor vision when it gets dark but now it's not dark but grey. As if the skies wanted to add to my suffering. I can't control myself. My limit to trash is already full and pouring out. First, Feline then the Top then him. I want out of this now!
I thought at that moment where I broke the Top's hand, it was the boy who caused all of this. But come to think of it at the house he wasn't there. Just my aunts. Is it in the family? Aunt Noa speeds. I have whatever I have. I am confused because we aren't related by blood.
I continue to follow the paths dragging the weight of the car plus Nathaniel's through the heavy splatters. He just sits like I am his pickup driver glancing at his watch from time to time. My body is heating up. Anger boils and continues to boil inside of me.
I can't take this any longer.
I stop the car midway to our destination. I sit down in the driver's seat sipping my water like it's caffeine. He looks puzzled not knowing what is going on in my head. I want to boil over him but I keep my calm. He should stop staring at me or else.
Nathaniel looks baffled for a long while before he speaks words. 'What's happening?'
I ignore his statement. He speaks again but this time he is staring into my soul as Feline did. I can feel something. The same thing I sensed from Feline's stares. I ignore it again. He probably can't comprehend what I am thinking on the account that I decided to stop the car in the middle of these huge droplets. He holds my hand forcefully thinking I would look at him and not continue to drink my water.
He thought wrong. He shouldn't have done that. Immediately I grab his palm pressing against it with my palm. Pressing against so hard that I almost reach for his bones. He let out a cry so I push his palm so far away the window glass broke.
He gets a cut, at the least. Luck is on his side I hoped for more. I hiss taking my eyes from the sight of him. Is he that weak or is he pretending?
Once the heavy splatters calmed their cry, I drive through till we reach our destination far north. I love cold places even though I have an allergy to colds. I pull over at the house indicating for him to get his arse off. He did as he was told. I give a smile a corner one. The wound is deeper than I thought. I did well.
People hate violence. I thought otherwise. We get inside greeting everyone before going to where Laylah lays, my room.
What is going to happen to her? This is my first time fully vested in the business.
I close the door as I am instructed by Nathaniel. We're having a chit-a-chat with Laylah.
WHERE'S MY DAUGHTER?
