Chapter 22 - CHAPTER 21

JACE'S P.O.V.

I knew the reason why I came to Mel but I didn't know how to start and later, I changed my mind to just go back home but, she stopped me

I was trying really hard not to snap like I did before but, I had a feeling that snapping wasn't going to make her back down, anyway.

"Do I look like I was given birth to last year and don't know what have been happening to me?"

"I wish" I replied under my breathe but another part of me wish the opposite

"Well, wish for something else cause that wish is so not coming true"

I guess she heard me

"Even if something is wrong with me, why do you care?" I asked her silently hoping she would what she would say would make me give in

"Because I do"

Nobody said anything for a while

I signed and sat down

"I told you why I can't tell you anything. It..."

"One, I may not mean what I say. Two, it's may be dangerous for me. Very dangerous at that. And three, you don't want to rely on someone. Even though you might be hoping for you to be able to rely me, you don't want to. Why? Because, it would be really painful for you when I'm not there anymore" she interrupted me

"You remember" I said with a smile, grateful

"Yes, I do and I will tell you what I think of your reason. One, I mean what I say. I really mean it. I thought about it and I don't think I will forever dismiss you if you turn out to be a murderer- I may at a point but, surely, not forever"

I gave her a look

There's no way I'm a murderer. Being someone I hate the most in this world?

"I'm not a murderer"

"I kinda knew that"

"Kinda?" I asked

She smiled at me

"Two, it might be dangerous but, I know you will protect me. Even if you can't, I can protect myself. I mean, come on, I work in the CSI and for number three"

Even though you might be CSI, Mel, it still dangerous and I don't think any string will be able to keep me together then if anything happened to you, especially because of me

She stopped and I held my breathe

"Jace, rely on me. I don't know how I can convince you but, I'm not leaving"

I looked at her. I really looked at her. Even though I wanted to say something else I could see that she meant it. I wanted to tell myself not to but, she finally made me give in

I passed my hands through my hair, signing. I stood up

"Let's go" I said

"Where to?" she asked also getting on her feet

"My house"

My house. The one that on one knows about

MEL'S P.O.V.

He went the opposite way he was supposed to go

"Are you sleepy? You went the wrong way?"

"No, I didn't"

Where is he taking us to then? Is he kidnapping me?

"Just for the reference, if you kidnap me, I'm going to make sure you suffer for the rest of your life" I threatened

He laughed

"Don't worry, I'm not taking that dangerous risk"

"Then, where are we going?"

"I told you, my house"

"You just passed the way to your house!"

"Just relax, okay?"

"Jace.."

"Trust me" he said and I kept silent

"Mel" I heard Jace's voice

"Mel, wake up. We are here" he said

I groaned, opening my eyes

He was too close. Too close that my mind went blank for a minute

"Too close" I told him trying to be unaffected

"Why? Are you being affected?" he asked me

Instead of answering, I shoved him away and sat up

"Where are we?" I asked looking around even though we were still in the car. There was a gate in front of us

"My house"

"Why do you keep saying your house? Have you forgotten that I've been to your house. Not once"

Apart from other time I went to his house, I've been going there for quite a while

Not using his words, I would just say that we were fond and comfortable of and with each other now although I still want to kill him sometimes. There's no changing that

"I know but, you have been to my official house"

"Official house? I never knew that people call where they live as an official house. Then what is this place called? Your real house? Your private house?" I said with a slight chuckle

"That's right. This is my private house" he said and before I could say anything else, he rolled down the window of his side. He put his thumb of a scanner and the gates opened. I raised my eyes up

He drove us inside. For some seconds, I just sat there, rigid and not saying anything. Actually, I couldn't say anything

"What are you doing? Aren't you coming out?" Jace asked

"Uh? Yeah, yeah. I am" I replied slowly getting out of the car

Number one, I couldn't call what was in front of me just a house, it was a spectacle. It was huge, like about three floors, it was long, like about 25 - 30 feet. It was also a glass house and maybe because I'm seeing the house for the first time at evening but, it seemed more magnificent

It was a glass house but not completely, the places that weren't glass was painted whit while the flat roof was painted grey

"Wow" I finally managed to say

I turned to look at Jace

"How much did this house cost?" I asked him suspiciously

"Get that insane thought out of your mind" was what he replied

"Let go" he said leading us inside. He put his hand inside the welcome sign and brought out a key from there using it to open the door

"Smart" I commented

"I am always smart" he said opening the door

I couldn't talk again but this time, I also couldn't breathe

"Mel, are you okay?" I heard Jace ask but, I could answer

"Mel" he called again snapping his fingers in front of me

After shaking me, I managed to regain my full consciousness and walked inside. The first thing I noticed was the paintings. There were a lot and there were breathtakingly beautiful

"Where did you buy all these paintings?" I asked him

"I didn't buy them. I made most of them"

"You?!" my voice came louder than I expected

"You seem really surprised" he scoffed

My mind registered the rest of his sentence

"You said you made most of them. Then, who made the rest?" I asked but, he didn't answer

Instead he just looked down, making it impossible for me to see his face but, he raised them up after a while

"Later" was all he said

Understanding, I nodded and looked at my front again

The living was not something I could just put in a sentence but, it was lovely. Apart from the painting hung on the white walls, the room had a homely vibe, something I wasn't expecting. There was a long couch facing the TV while two single couches were in front of the TV kind of siding the TV; I guess it's for receiving heat from the fireplace. The couches were white and had white and brown cushions on them. A glass table with a flower vase on top was at the center

"You can look around if you want to" Jace said

"Sure" I said heading forward

In front of the living room was a buttery. There was a black couch with grey pillows and also a center table in the room. To my surprise, there wasn't any alcoholic drinks among the various bottles stacked; some were just pure wine, some were juice while some were just soft drinks

"Would you like to take anything?" Jace asked

"For now, I don't think so" I replied

"Okay, I'll be right back" he said going up the stairs that was at the right side of the buttery

Another thing which surprised me; the traditional staircase. There were also two single couches beside the staircase

Leaving to do what so ever he was going to do, I went into the dining/kitchen

"Wow" I said aloud to no one in particular

There was a flower each on the dinning table and on the counter. The dinning table was brown with four chairs. The chairs were brown on the back but white at front. Rotatory chairs were around a part of the counter. There was also a zinc and cooking stove on the counter. The lights here were different, they huge above the counter. The cupboards were brown and had glass doors. I walked towards the cupboards, different, expensive looking utensils filled the cupboards. I walked into the room beside the kitchen, it was a storage room. The freezer and fridge were there along with some foodstuffs. As usual, there was not much, but, it is a lot better then the one in his 'official house'. At least he had healthy foods here and they were quite much. I guess he comes here frequently since the foodstuffs hadn't spoiled and the house seamed rather very clean. I walked back out and sat at one of the chairs at the counter, waiting for Jace to come back down
