Chapter 17 - 17. The man's beating heart

"As you said so that our actions can be done to the maximum, I immediately thought of taking you to my apartment. I've never taken a girl to my apartment before, and my mother doesn't even know where my apartment is. Because of the condition of her body that can not travel far anywhere." William said.

"But… to your apartment? I... have never been to a man's apartment or house before. Can't we get someone else to accompany us?" Aubrey hopes that someone will accompany her despite the fact that she has no close friends except Becky but that friend must have been busy with her boyfriend, Michael.

"Who do you want to invite?" William actually objected that his apartment was visited by strangers. However, William also believes that Aubrey has no friends to invite. So William's question is more than just a pseudo-question. Aubrey racked her brains. Her eyes darted to and fro trying to think of a name but she couldn't.

"I don't think you have any close friends, do you?" Liam finally said, breaking Aubrey's doubts and trying to guess the heart of the woman who had become his girlfriend, even if only for the next 3 months. Aubrey was silent this time, unable to say anything.

"Aubrey, let's go now. Before you get home tonight." The gentleman held out his hand to Aubrey and they walked out of Liam's study hand in hand.

All of William's staff who saw his boss for the first time holding hands with a woman could only watch from afar. The man with silver hair did look gentle on the outside but he also hardly ever smiled except at Neil, his secretary.

"Are we just going alone?" The woman with blonde hair did not see the driver or bodyguard near Liam.

"I don't have bodyguards like my two brothers. I'm just a painter. Nothing is up for grabs from a painter." Liam smiled slightly as he scratched the back of his neck. Aubrey replied spontaneously with a soft smile.

"Yes, a painter is not as complicated as a businessman whose enemies are everywhere."

"That's... sorry, you... haven't been wearing a seat belt." Liam said timidly.

"Oh, sorry, I forgot." Aubrey immediately pulled the belt on the top right, but the woman seemed to be having a hard time.

"What is it?" Liam, who had just started the engine, saw Aubrey repeatedly wanting to pull the rope but finding it difficult to move. "May I help? You know, it's an old car, so the seat belt is a bit difficult." Liam replied. Again Aubrey could only smile softly.

"This car does look antique but not old. With my teaching salary as a lecturer, I will not be able to buy this luxury car for the rest of my life." Aubrey muttered under her breath.

Liam unbuckled the seat belt that was wrapped around his body. The man approached Aubrey's body to retrieve the seat belt that was stuck motionless above the woman's head. Aubrey could feel Liam's breath and the man's beating heart.

"This… is too close," Aubrey muttered under her breath. The woman held her breath and pursed her lips.

Unbeknownst to Aubrey, there was the beating heart of a man who had never been this close to a woman.

"Yes," Liam said with a smile. The man sat back in his chair and put the seat belt back on. Aubrey smiled softly and the car drove out of the gallery of paintings to Liam's apartment for the first time.

Aubrey still felt her heart pounding as she had run. She is an independent woman and always has the principle that she will not be attracted to any man until her main goal is to have her own house. Along the way, the two adult human were just silent with their own thoughts. There is no interaction between the two of them at all. Even each other's breathing could be heard clearly.

"We have arrived. This is the apartment building. My unit is on the top floor." Aubrey just nodded and unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car. William and Aubrey walked through the door from the basement of the parking lot. There is a special elevator from the basement that will take each occupant to the floor of their respective apartment units. William pressed the 20 button which was most likely on the floor where his unit was.

Aubrey was really amazed by the scenery around her. All corners in this residence are very luxurious and elegant. From the outside, she can guess that the residents must be rich people or big artists. This was the first time Aubrey had entered a luxurious building. Unknowingly, Aubrey had been admiring the interior of this building for several minutes.

"Can we go straight to my room?" William smiled kindly. This gentle man's words could still make Aubrey gasp in surprise.

"Oh, I'm so stupid. Looking at luxury apartments to be so confused," Aubrey said in her heart. "Hehe, sorry. Come on, where's your apartment?" Aubrey walked half running after Liam who had reached the corner.

"This whole floor is my apartment unit. There are no other owners on this floor." Liam's words left Aubrey's mouth wide open. The woman glanced around him. "That's why only this lift can go up to the 20th floor. The other lifts are only up to the 19th floor." Liam replied casually.

"You're kidding right?" Aubrey narrowed her eyes in disbelief. Liam just smiled faintly and the door of the most spacious apartment unit among all the residents of the apartment opened.

Aubrey was really amazed by it. The interior in this apartment really reflects the owner, a real man. The combination of dark brown and black walls is the most dominant colour besides white. There is no furniture that is not functional. There are no big vases like most rich people's homes. All exist because they have a use.

"Sit down, I'll get you a drink." Not quite there. The kitchen owned by this gentleman is also very spacious. The refrigerator, which is as large as a wardrobe, stands very beautifully in the middle of the kitchen. "I have no coloured drinks and alcohol. There is only water. It is okay, right?" Liam asked while continuing to smile non-stop.

"This is your house so it's up to you what's in it. I'm only a guest once." Aubrey answered simply because her eyes were still admiring the interior of the most spacious apartment in the building.

"I usually come here twice a week. Or, when I need to calm myself down looking for inspiration. What do you think of this apartment? Do you think it is proper enough to bring a wife and several children in it?" Liam asked suddenly.

"Very fittingly, your wife and your children will be very happy to live in this spacious apartment." Answered Aubrey.

"I want you to be the resident, Aubrey," Liam muttered under his breath.

"Then, what should I do after this? I've stopped by your apartment. Then, after this what else?" Aubrey stared intently into Liam's blue eyes.
