Chapter 14 - Night of the attack

Boksen stood next to bleux, watching Gooba's team laying the traps. He asked bleux, 'Are you sure Jaren wil not come into squabbles with Jaka anymore.'

Bleux replied, 'Yes I do, Jaren knows that I want Jaka on our side. So I'm sure he will trust in my judgement.'

'But Jaren can be surprising. Maybe he will surprise even you.'

Bleux was looking at Boksen as if looking at an ignorant child. 'We both have been through the most together. I doubt he will do something drastic.'

That night Jaka went to the spot Jaren told him about. Past the river then a little bit north east, stopping only when he saw a water falling from the sky. He and his wild brigade slowly walked past the thick vines.

Some of them just pushed them away, some bit them violently, ripping them to shreds. Even though the bitting, they were more quit that normal, everyone was.

They never woke up this early, and that sleep whiplash sure made them tired. There was something else that was keeping them like this, something that occupied their minds.

Everything proceeded as planned. Just an hour ago they pretended to sleep, untill they were sure that the beast went to it's cave.

When the beast watched at them he felt chills on his spine. He didn't notice in the previous nights because he was long asleep.

But now that he was awake he felt a prey worth catching. A beast that wouldn't wafer when he and his goblins would overrun it. He knew if he wanted to ever feast on the bear-like creature that he had to follow the two bosses their plans.

He realized that even though their bodies weren't marked with scars, they were capable and he needed them.

The battle was already starting if he was right. Bleux at this moment was further in the front supervising Gooba, Eli, Pipin and Boksen making sure everything went smoothly.

All that needed to happen was to lure the beast out, and soon after that he had to step in with his group. Jaren told Jaka that the both of them would join later, but right before that they had to meet.

Jaka didn't know why. Jaren tried to explain but his excuses seemed vague. Saying things that he later contradicted if asked again. He told him that he would hand them weapons.

That wasn't needed as Gooba already gave them some. Jaren told Jaka that he would explain the plan again, why though? The plan seemed clear enough.

As he walked he waved his hands attempting to scare the flies that were around him. The flies did not fly away, infact it seemed to lure them in more.

He finally heard the constant sound that was gallons of liquid falling into a plunge pool. The waterfall was higher than any tree he had seen before, standing almost like a mountain.

The stream of water took a series of steep falls until it finally fell into the river, as if a flight downstairs.

The blue Moonlight made the scenery a very peaceful one; the fish calmly swam past, over and under eatchother. Not knowing or caring if there were predators. Floating above the river was the spiders carefully weaving their webs, bugs seemingly running on water.

These creatures were just living, a quit life. at least that was Jaka's perspective. He wanted to be like that, peacefulness. He wanted to life on standby mode, going about his day like a spider, or a fish. Wake up, hunt, eat, repeat, it sounded like heaven to him.

'I see you finally arrived.' Jaren's voice made him snap out of his observing like state. Jaren was not invisible, but no sound was made, no body part bent, like a statue. He sat on a fallen tree, one that had lied there for ages. His legs were spread wide and his arms rested on his knees.

'Yes, I was watching this place. It's beautiful.' Jaka replied. Jaren said 'I know it is. That is why I chose it. But that is not the only reason why.'

'Why did you even bring me here?' a sinister glare appeared in Jaren's eyes, one that Jaka could not ignore. His eyes never stood out like this before. But now the emerald green eyes were taking Jaka in.

Jaren said 'That wil be clear, soon enough. But first, let me tell you a story.'

'I do not get what your try-' Jaren cut through words Jaka like a knife through butter. He put his bloody hand on his chest.

'See the thing is these past days I have had very bad dreams, nightmares. But one of these stands out in particular, one concerning Bleux.

In this dream there was a period in my life when I was very alone and ignored by everyone. Untill a new kid named Bleux appeared in our class. Bleux was a social kid, if he wanted he could be the most popular kid in school, but for some reason he talked to me, the weirdo. He let me in his friend group and we would hang out everyday.

One day a kid that liked teasing approached me and wanted to beat me into submission, like he always did. I wanted to run, but Bleux did not want that, he was too brave. He told me that the both of us could take this person, that we could win together. But I still ran, leaving Bleux to face this fellow alone.

Since that day we never talked again, and it was not as if I was good friends with his friends so it would be weird to hang with them. I was alone once again. See what was the problem was in this nightmare?'

Jaka looked down on the fierce leader. Confusion ran through his mind, what was he doing here? why was Jaren talking about another Bleux? what did he want? Jaka did not know.

He opened his lips 'The problem was that you ran aw-'

'No! That's not it. It was the teasing guy who was the problem. He decided that I couldn't have a friend and made me run away.'

He stopped for a second and licked his bloody fingers. Then asked 'Are you hungry?'

Another weird question, but one that made Jaka's senses tingle. He smelled something familiar; the iron smell of blood.

'I am not hungry jaren.'

Jaren reached behind the broken tree he was sitting on and threw a kip at Jaka's feet. 'You wanted it so bad remember. Eat it.'

'What are we doing here Jaren?'

'You are going to eat it?'

'No, what are we doing here?'

Jaren stood up. It looked impossible but a spear appeared out of nowhere clenched between his hands.

'I wanted to give you a nice place and some nice food before I finally kill you.' Jaren snarled. Jaka asked confused 'Why?' but there were no confusions in his instincts, he grabbed his spear from his back and stood prepared.

He jabbed multiple times, poking the air. Jaren was to smooth with his dodges, seeming just as impossible to grasp like water.

Once he dodged the last attack Jaren quickly hit Jaka at the side of his rib with the non pointy part of his spear. Then followed up with a slice on Jaka's chest. Jaka stepped back just in time to make the the slash just a flesh wound.

Quickly he was back on Jaren his face, literally. Giving him a headache inducing headbutt. It was hard enough to make the impact make Jaren's forehead leak, but jaren was not done. He took his spear at the end of the stick and raised it all the way above him with one hand.

He split the air in two with the way he sliced downwards. By stepping aside Jaka dodged again. Now that Jaren was open to attack, Jaka stabbed in his direction again.

Jaren jumped, his whole body flying over Jaka's body. A crane kick midair sent Jaka and his broken nose backwards.

Jaren dashed back above Jaka and stabbed him through the chest. Blood exploded on both of their bodies and Jaka's gasping for air increased.

he shouted to his group 'Help me!' but they just sat there, watching the battle. Their many different eye colors glowing in the dark, not blinking.

'Do you know why they are just watching?' Jaren stood over Jaka, looking as if he was just as tall as a mountain. 'Because they only follow the strongest. That is how it always has been, the weak follow the strong. And right now the strongest will be decided.'

Jaren lifted Jaka on his shoulders and brought him to the top of the waterfall and threw him down. His body was found the next day.
