Chapter 8 - Trapped

One by one, each passenger left to their destination. While Malad was stuck on her seat next to a dubious Amdo, who never spoke, just stared and stared into nothing, fighting mentally with himself and with her. She could see that by the momentary turns of his eyes that darted onto her from time to time. The silence was weighing on her. She did not want to - could not - stay here any longer. Especially, with the unpredictable, brawling beast right next to her. But then she remembered that she was the one who turned that gentle soul into a beast. She was the one who needed to mend it.

"Amdo, I-" she began but was cut off by the announcement. "Dear passengers, may I have your attention, please? The plane is going through some technical issues but we will soon be on board to Cape Barren Islands. We request our passengers to be patient and remain seated."

But Amdo got up. Grabbing him by the wrist, "they said remain seated..." Malad commented, but Amdo jerked himself free and slumped himself onto the next free seat.

The aeroplanes outside seemed to ooz through in slow motion while a lazy cloud played with the sun trying to block it. Malad was bored to the point that she started counting the number of food packages whooshed by the wind to her side of the window. After a solid half hour, "ten more minutes," they announced. As soon as her thoughts started drifting towards Amdo, she blocked them because she kew that once she plumged into that ocean, there was no coming back. This was just not her moment. She had to wait until he cooled down. When that would be, she had no idea.

The ten minutes turned into an hour. The hour turned into two until they finally accepted their defeat and announced that the passengers needed to leave the plane. When she finally got up,or rather tried to get up, she was as jammed as a cycle made of rusty, old iron. Glad to be out of the prison again, she skipped through the ramp leading her away from the aeroplane. She turned back now and then to check on Amdo who turned deathly pale whenever she as much as turned a degree towards him.

For his sake she kept on walking with a certain look of sorrow at the corner of her eye. She finally reached the airport of Flinders island. It was as magnificent as the one back home. 'All airports just have to be magnificent, don't they?' She noted mentally.

They were allocated a waiting area at the corner near the toilets. Silver benches were laden across the glimmering, white ground with the only exit being the door she had just come out of. Far away on her left she could see some plastic stripes, guarded with security, blocking the entry to the airport.

She took out her phone to text her family but the tank on the top left corners showed the dangerously thin streaks of red. So she took out her hand bag and whipped out the charger. Sadly, the Australian sockets under the benches betrayed her. Amdo trudged silently towards her seat and slammed the Australian plug onto her hand. "Amdo," she tried again but he just turned back and speed-walked his way onto a bench not far away from her, leaving her alone on the long glimmering bench.
