~~Don't expect too much, that way you won't hurt as much~~
Angelina's POV
My mind was in complete turmoil as I tried to accept the fact that my coach was actually leaving. To make matters worse, my new coach was an egomaniac who thinks the whole world owes him in some way or another.
After the announcement, everyone dispersed and went to their own corners to train. As I walked towards my locker to change into my training clothes, I couldn't help but eavesdrop on the conversation that Coach E and Xander were having.
"Mr Harrison, I know that you are well-known and pretty much wanted by many clubs. Moreover, I know you mean strictly business. I would just like to warn you about a few things or rather, a few people. We do have very interesting characters in this club and mind you, some of them are very feisty, especially Angelina. She's the girl I told you about who was very dear to Grayson," he continued.
I couldn't help but roll my eyes at their conversation. Was I some sort of hazardous being that came with warnings? Just as I was about to go on my way, Xander spoke, "Don't you worry about a thing. I know exactly how to handle such people. And this Angelina girl, when do I start training her?" Even though I could not see him, his confidence and arrogance laced through his voice. You could almost feel it.
"You could start today if you like?" Coach E suggested.
"Perfect," replied Xander. With that said, I heard footsteps approaching the door and just when I was about to sprint out of sight into the locker room, Xander's voice boomed across the room forcing me to halt.
"Where do you think you're going?" he exclaimed. "You best not take another stride further."
At this point my heart was pounding fast and irregularly. Eventually, I stammered, "I-I'm really sorry sir. I didn't mean to." I couldn't believe I was apologising to this arrogant man, but I knew I couldn't get into trouble with him this early in time.
"You girls never learn do you?" he muttered loud enough so that only I could hear him.
"Pardon?" I asked. I was in a state of utter confusion as I didn't know what he meant by that statement.
Instead of answering, he began walking towards my direction until he was now facing me. Due to the fairly close proximity, I noticed he had the most beautiful ocean eyes I had ever seen. They had a touch of grey in them making them look even deeper. His jawline was to die for. In a nutshell, the man was hot but too bad he was too much of a dimwit.
I was brought out of my thoughts when a deep husky voice spoke.
"You were probably waiting for me to walk out of that room just so I could give you my autograph am I right?" he said matter-of-factly.
I was shook. Never in a million years would I have anticipated that response. I had to repeatedly tell myself to breathe in and out before I said or did anything I would potentially regret in the future.
After I had successfully kept my inferno from blazing uncontrollably, I smartly replied, "Unfortunately, or fortunately, you aren't Usain Bolt nor Muhammad Ali, so I don't think your autograph would hold any capacity with all due respect." And to finish up the retort, I gifted him my best innocent smile.
He seemed to have been taken aback. Moreover, something seemed to have flickered in his eyes but he quickly hid it with a smirk. "You must be Angelina I presume?" he asked even though it sounded more like a rhetorical question to me. He stared at me as though he thought I was going to answer his obvious question. After a few seconds, he realised I wasn't going to budge and so he spoke again, "Well, Angel, we start training in ten minutes and for your sake I hope you aren't late by even a millisecond." As he said this, he held a devilish grin that was glued onto his stupid yet so handsome face.
"First of all, it's Angelina to you, and secondly, I would've been done preparing for the freaking lesson had some egotistic moron not stopped me just to prove how much of a pain in the neck he really was!" I exploded. After realising what I had just said, I froze.
All I could think of at that moment was how dead I was. Sometimes I hated how I just couldn't control my mouth and my anger. But then again, Xander just seemed to like testing me.
Xander didn't say anything for what felt like forever. The silence was deafening. Instead, he slowly stalked towards me like I was some sort of prey. He finally came to a halt when we were just inches apart. At that instant, my heart began beating frantically as my stomach began to perform somersaults. He was so close that I could smell his cologne that seemed to envelop me whole. It was intoxicating yet so addicting.
Just as I was getting drunk of his scent, he spoke dangerously close to me, "That mouth of yours is going to land you into big trouble Angel. Don't test my patience and just do as you're told." With that been said, he left and I remained standing yet again shocked by his response.
Remember when I said I hated him? That was an understatement.
