"You what!" My father yelled grabbing me by the collar, "Not the day before our national competition, who do I put in your place."
"Fine, I'll compete, but after that, you can't stop me," I replied, gently pulling myself away
I was a different person at this point. I didn't even raise my voice or a hand to my father, I feared and respected him way too much. Taekwondo wasn't being fair to me at this point, and I felt like it was controlling and consuming me. I won my gold medals and handed them over to my father, who for weeks hadn't spoken to me. I remember he froze my bank accounts and sometimes would lock me at home and not allow me to go to school. It got better after my senior year when I walked past the kickboxing dojo that was recruiting.
