I looked at Quinn and Ishatar squirming uncomfortably in their chairs. While a part of me had a mutinous expression on my face, I was dying inside.
My grandmother had laid down her life for me.
I could not even begin to process this. It felt terrible. Our lives had been simple, small and happy in the village. We had not had much, but it had felt enough.
In a few instants, this simple life had been turned upside down by these people. These people whom I didn't know and didn't much care about.
I looked at them right now and asked the question raging in my mind, wondering why I had ever come here in the first place. What did these people want from me?
"Why?" I asked them now. I was fuming. I hadn't asked them to come to me. I had no desire to sit and drink that fiery liquid, but here I was sitting in this chair, life topsy turvy and grandmother gone.
