"Why do you have to leave Terent Mill?" he asked as we crossed out of the Acton's territory walking through the dark night. It's been two days walking quietly together, he had been as cooperative he could have been with me not talking about it. I still haven't told him why I needed to do that right after the announcement but he was also adamant to follow after me. I refused at first because now that I was far from people that were willing to protect me, I am not just risking myself but him in turn. Cassuis could easily attack me on these unclaimed lands.
"Ruby feels I am at risk staying over there especially that I couldn't,"
"It makes sense now" he cut me off
"But I could have protected you"
We continued walking into a less dense side of the forest more room for us to come side by side. I had my backpack strapped in with a bunch of supplies for the night walkers and the both of us because I don't know for how long I might have to hide.
"Ruby must be worried to her stomach for you going through this without her supervision"
I still left out the part that I suggested leaving and ruby didn't get onboard but I did anyway. I was in desperate need of some fresh air, I wanted not to grieve anymore because it's making me weaker and I saw this as a chance to escape
"She didn't know" I admitted
He fell quiet besides me, he wasn't just quiet but after a couple of steps I realized he suddenly stopped; I turned around to find his gaze slightly less concentrated on me and towards the ground and his nose was flaring
"What?"
"Wolfsbane"
I looked over my shoulder, I couldn't see any kind of purple flowering but as I focus some more my senses got filled with a very strong rancid smell
"Blood!" I muttered, my heart thrashed in my chest.
"Wait here Jake,"
"No, it's too dangerous" He grabbed me by the wrist pulling me towards him
"You are weak without ever taking your wolf form. I will go" I snatched my wrist out of his made fist and stopped him from going around me by pushing him roughly
"Let me check it out. You are an Alpha and your pack needs you"
I gave no room for argument and preceded forward with a pace,I heard him take a couple of steps before stopping behind me. He didn't tell my name possibly because he was afraid of something lurking around. If it weren't for the big luminous moon it would be hard to navigate without my enhanced vision.
I never knew the smell of Wolfsbane furthermore I wouldn't be affected by it but Jake could, the smell of blood that was setting behind my throat was strong, stronger than anyone I had sensed before, maybe it was because my powers were cresting. Fear immediately crept up my chest from my gut as I smelled now two distinctive scents; I looked behind me gazing at Jake standing worriedly at a really good distance.
I knew I was capable of protecting myself to some extent before damage could be done. Treading carefully making very low crunching noise underneath my weight; I quickly stopped as I sight a body via my peripheral vision; that explained the smell.
It was a man laid on his back blood generously following out of his body, I quickly went over laying my backpack on the floor beside me. Dark haired, stiffened body, strongly built as I could see from his bare torso, his shirt was ripped opened seeing from the remaining hanging over his shoulders, a leaf of some plant was left resting on his forehead; it was odd. This man must have been in a very bad fight. There was no sign of him being alive from his still chest; the cuts in him slightly started healing before others it appeared like he was tortured or he was over powered by so many. I hunkered down on one knee slowly reaching my hand to touch his face, it was cold.
He definitely wasn't human from his deep scent different but yet familiar and from the healing of his wounds; it was a werewolf.
Usually werewolves have high temperate quiet higher than a normal person's. I traced back my hand to his bloody upper chest right over his heart; I took a deep breath still keeping a track of that other scent that was all over him, it was quiet prominent which meant the other person was hear just before I was.
It might even be the attacker
I focused on the man that was dying or better said dead lay in front of me; I suck in air again closing my eyes concentrating that surge of power inside of me to my fingertips although I had outgrown my electrical powers which were meant to be my baby powers but I still could feel some of it inside me.
Practically this was saving his life but it was also what the world needed or the people that killed him wanted which I highly think to be the vampires in other to spot me again. I wasn't going to let that paranoia stop me not after I let phoenix slip out of my hands while I watched, I couldn't handle a thing like that again.
In my head I could hear Ruby objecting my decision, I blocked her out and concentrated more. I could hear everything from the slight rustling of the leaves to the wind blowing from the south while I was facing the east to Jake's restless pacing, his booth snapping twigs and crunching leaves, to the crackling of electricity in my fingers, to the frail thudding of his heart−he was alive. But to my disbelief I heard a growl very angry and weak before a set of heavy footsteps come at me fast, it all happened fast and unruffled that I didn't have time to react to it as soon as I opened my eyes I saw a silhouette crashing into me.
We both flew into the ground; my forearm that went up instinctively to protect myself thus was at the throat of my attacker while my other hand was pressed against the hard ground by his wrist lock and my other shoulder crushing beneath his other hand. After the trauma of connecting my head with the ground which lasted just a second or two I took in the appearance of my aggressor, his eyes were bright yellow-to-golden crest inside them rage, agony and confusion, to his wet looking jet-black hair, angular face, hawk nose and thick brows. He had the size of a well built gym instructor and the amount of strength he had was raw—stronger than I had ever felt before, I shook with pain underneath him
"What were you doing to him?" he asked his voice full but shaking, from the looks of him something was highly wrong and I walked inside of it and he must have saw me using my powers
It was clear there was something between those two and he doesn't want anyone close to him judging their condition. His hands were equally covered in blood and his body was shaking too although he was pretty strong.
"I was trying to help" I said through the pain surging in both hands, that wasn't convincing him and probably he was getting more agitated because he wasn't easing on his grip
"I want to help you both. You are hurt too"
He swung me off my feet effortlessly and against a nearby tree putting me up above the ground by my neck although he had so much strength but I could feel the weakness in his grip and the cut across the side of his torso dripping blood to the ground fill the areas in my head with the sound.
"What were you doing to him?" he repeated sternly this time, he added pressure to my neck and I could feel my vertebrae crushing although I could heal them back in a second but it would be damn painful
"I can save him and heal you too if you let me" I choked out with a shriek
"We don't need your help"
"Without me, he'd die soon"
I saw the anger in his eyes replace with vulnerability and mistrust at my words. Although he doesn't want to believe my words something inside of him was giving me a chance
"How?Who are you?"
Like an explosion I heard a growl, a familiar scent and a ripping sound of earth's crust topmost layer chipping out resulting from speed and strength. I looked towards the noise as he came closer to us from the west in an astounding speed but he used an arm to block out Jake with just a swing sending him off the other direction.
"JAKE!"
I yelled frightful Jake got on his feet warily, I felt the strength of the man and I was supposed to be the strongest of them all, Jake must be hurt. Avoiding any further damage and anger display from Jake and getting the frightened wolf to calm down was the only choice to get out of this without knocking either of them out so I could help the other guy.
"Jake, stand down" I said to him as he was coming closer and the wolf I was facing wasn't getting any gentler and he was also fully aware of him closing in although concentrated on me giving an answer or he pops my neck.
"Please" I pleaded some more, Jake came to a stop changing back into his human form falling on his knees, I quickly looked away from his nudity.
The guy at front wasn't alright either his eyes were losing focus as much as he was putting effort to stay awake. Although Jake was looking but I had no any other option to subdue him, so I placed my hand on one side of his temple and tried my best at keeping eye contact
"If you don't let go off me now and do nothing afterwards your accomplice is definitely going to die and you can't do anything about it"
I never thought it would work, Ruby mentioned I could mind control but I never knew that I would just perfect it. So he did, dropping me to the ground and so he fall himself. He had lost a lot of blood and he wasn't healing either. No further delay I bounced forward to the body and squatted again, I just remembered Jake had no clothes on and I quickly tossed him the bag without looking. I placed a hand on his chest again trying to concentrate but I couldn't not over the heaving of the other wolf and Jake coming off from beside me.
"How did you do that?" I glanced at him shortly seeing that he was pulling a shirt over his head but I could still feel my cheek burn
"I can be pretty convincing"
"He is poisoned. Wolfsbane, he won't last long" he pointed
There was no heartbeat like before but I could still bring him back especially after I glanced behind me finding the other guy on his knees crouched forward a bit, in pain looking towards me with a lot of hopelessness knowing I contributed to it, I had to do something. Quickly I pulled at my sleeve exposing my inner wrist looking down at it, I remembered Ruby again saying my blood, a drop of it could wipe out what's left of them but I felt obligated to saving him and that maybe he wouldn't be evil if I resurrected him with so much power. If he by chance shows a possiblity of being evil, I wouldn't hesitate to put him down for good. As I was about to pull out the dagger sheath I had in my waist band, Jake grabbed my wrist again
"What are you doing? You cannot heal him. He's dead already" Jake whispered
"You are right. I can't do it" I stood to my feet and walked towards the wolf man on his knees, he looked up at me with glossy, frightened and angry eyes. I could hear his breath quicken
"I'm sorry about this" I said with a hand movements I stroke the inside of his neck, he fell with a thud on his side, I didn't know why I thought that was the only way to make him unconscious but after he fell I could still hear his heartbeat. Jake came over quickly from behind seeing the man drop
"He is fine. I had to do it; he wouldn't have let me help him"
