Quinn was getting ready for the Thorton's ball when both Preston and Tessa came up to his room. Tessa wrapped her arms around herself while Preston stood with his hands behind his back, the two of them had something to say to him, he could sense their hesitation a mile away and only spared them a glance when they still did not talk.
"Are you just going to stand there and not say a word? I have to finish getting ready, you know, since Preston here has left me to do it myself and resorted to folding his hands behind him instead." he said in a mocking tone while feeling satisfied at the annoyed look on Tessa's face.
"You look like the Tessa I know, not the one who would not talk about whatever is bothering her." he said to her.
Tessa started, annoyed at his cocky behaviour. "Well if you must know, we are here to talk about Lady Nesta." she said
"Well, what about her? I thought the two of you were bonding." he asked, confused that they would even bring her up with such a solemn look on their faces.
"We were thinking since Lady Weaver trusts you and the other members of this household at least to some extent, we think maybe it's time you tell her the truth about the real reason why she is here in our lives." Preston continued.
"You share the same thoughts with Preston, Tessa?" he asked her
"Yes, Quinn. I think Nesta is a sensible woman, she might freak out at first but she would still come around later and every decision she makes after would be because of what she wants and not because she is stuck with you in the bonds of marriage.
She's not like any lady of this ton. She is quite different and unique, and we also know how you feel about her, whether you admit it or not. People can see and we are also worried if you go ahead with your original plan and she finds out after, she might be forced to leave because of your treachery.
How will you deal with that then, when one of the most important things in your life suddenly leaves you and disappears, would you be able to live without her by your side? Tessa asked, trying to make him see the reason why they need to change their source of action.
"You two think she will suddenly accept me and the rest of us if she were to find out the truth now? Don't forget that she has returned to the society's eye with our help and she now has a lot of options for a partner she wished to spend the rest of her life with.
Nesta is very important to me, just like you said and not just because of her powers alone and what she could do for us to win this life long battle with our enemies, she is important because she is the one I want to be with, the one I find peace with and I am not ready to jeopardize that with the truth she does not need right now.
I appreciate your concerns for me but I assure you that I have everything under control and when it is time she will find out. She needs to find herself first before she can know about our kind, that way she will be able to believe us when she knows she is not an ordinary person herself." Quinn explained to both Preston and Tessa not leaving room for further argument.
"Now, let's all get ready and make our way to this ball." he informed them as he grabbed his coat and heading for the door, thoughts of
Nesta and everything he just heard filled up his mind and he could not help but convince himself time and time again that he is making the right decision.
His mind wandered back to Nesta and her alluring eyes and made an effort to reach her sooner as he knew he would soon find his peace and away from all these worries once he was in her presence and her addictive scent.
With Nesta taking up his mind, he entered the carriage Preston opened the door for him with Tessa following behind as they made their way to the Thorton's household for another wonderful night.
