SEXUAL PURITY
SCRIPTURE READING:
1 Thessalonians 4:3-7
1Thess.4.3 - God wants you to be holy, so you should keep clear of all sexual sin.
1Thess.4.4 - Then each of you will control your body and live in holiness and honor
1Thess.4.5 - not in lustful passion as the pagans do, in their ignorance of God and his ways.
1Thess.4.6 - Never cheat a Christian brother in this matter by taking his wife, for the Lord avenges all such sins, as we have solemnly warned you before.
1Thess.4.7 - God has called us to be holy, not to live impure lives.
God created sex as a good human act. However, God declares that sexual relations should be only for a man and a woman in marriage. God designed sex to be pleasurable and also for the purpose of procreation but also instructed that it is reserved for marriage. Sexual activity outside of marriage is a perversion of something God made good. From the scripture we read, we find Gods directive on sexual purity.
We are admonished to use our bodies as vessels of Gods honour. One of the ways to do this is to abstain from sexual impurity. The mystery of sex is that, when it is done in the confines of marriage as designed by God, it is pure and honours God. When it is done outside marriage, it is impure and it abhors God.
Sexual purity is not only something those who are single need to be concerned about, but it is also intended for married couples to remain faithful to each other. Sex is unique to marriage, and sexual purity does much to maintain the integrity and strength of the marriage bond. No matter your marital state, we are all called to be sexually pure in both our actions and our thoughts. When we follow Gods instruction about sexual purity, our lives and relationships will be better for us and honour Him.
