Later that day
Chaus finished the farm work and went to his room to cultivate. While cultivating his soul, he realized it took more time and effort to increase the power of his soul. This was because the foundation of his soul grew stronger and more profound. Dru had given him a gift.
When Chaus thought of Dru, he felt a twang of pain in his heart. No matter how cold and emotionless Chaus was, he couldn't not feel anything when it came to Dru. He swore he wouldn't let Dru's death be in vain.
7 days later
It was finally time for Jessica to depart with Marvin.
Two soldiers came into the hut and dragged Jessica away, despite John and Jasmine's futile resistance. Jasmine had tears streaming down her face and John's face was fuming with anger.
Chaus sneakily left the hut and followed the soldiers. Although his soul regressed, he could still use 50% of the power he had when he was at his prime. The soldiers, who were at the upper initial stage, had no hopes of sensing Chaus.
The soldiers walked along a barren path with the struggling Jessica. Jessica kicked and bit, but the soldiers dragged her without slowing down.
After a while, Chaus saw the town. It was a small town, but there were multiple buildings: shops, homes, inns, and more. The streets were full with people.
When the citizens saw the two soldiers dragging Jessica, they parted like the Red Sea.
The soldiers walked past the masses into the center of the town. There, laying in the center, was a beautiful carriage with intricate carvings and silk wrapped around it. The carriage was attached to two horses, and a carriageman sat behind the horses.
A young boy, the same age as Chaus, 14, came out of the carriage. He had long brunette hair, brown eyes, and a face that looked like a snake. He was at the pinnacle of the initial stage.
He smiled when he saw Jessica. "How kind of you to voluntarily become my maidservant," Marvin said tauntingly.
Jessica glared at him.
Marvin licked his lips like a snake. "Put her in the carriage."
"Yes young master," the soldiers replied.
Chaus narrowed his eyes. So the soldiers were from the Vittori family.
Jessica struggled, but to no avail. Eventually, she was forced into the carriage.
Just as Jessica was forced into the carriage, a man appeared. He was wearing a velvet cloak, and his face was well defined. A trimmed beard ran across his face, and long wavy hair flowed down his head.
Marvin bowed in respect. "Sir Sincus."
Marvin, who was prince of this town, was treating this man with respect. Sincus must be someone with high status, even higher than the Vittoris. Someone from Dragonsend Academy.
Chaus could vaguely see the soul rank Sincus had: the upper domain stage. He was strong.
Sincus spoke. "Was she the one you were waiting for?"
Marvin grinned sheepishly. "Yes."
Sincus looked at Marvin with a blank face, but a slight hint of disgust could be seen in those green eyes of his. "Let's go."
Marvin was about to step into the carriage when Chaus made his move. "Wait."
Marvin and Sincus turned their heads at the same time. Jessica, inside the carriage, became hopeful that Chaus was here to save her.
A frown appeared on Marvin's snake-like face. "Guards! Take him away." Marvin turned towards Sincus and apologized profusely. Sincus simply observed the situation in silence.
Four guards brandished their swords and went towards Chaus. Chaus observed the guards. Their souls were at the upper initial stage, and they were inexperienced.
Compared to Dru, the guards were childs play. Chaus quickly dispatched all the guards. Sincus raised an eyebrow.
This young boy, who came from nowhere, had easily dispatched four guards without breaking a sweat.
"I didn't come here to pick a fight." Chaus looked directly at Marvin. Marvin tensed up in fear as he stared at Chaus's black pupils. "I came to end it."
Marvin quickly broke free from Chaus's gaze. He was in front of someone from Dragonsend Academy. He couldn't show fear.
"Do you think beating four guards makes you something? You're nothing compared to me." Marvin glanced at Sincus looking for a reaction, but he saw nothing. He grimaced. "I'll give you a chance to leave, or else."
Chaus laughed. Fools are the funniest when they're serious. Chaus smiled sinisterly. "Or else?"
Marvin replied in a wavery voice. "Or else I'll take action myself."
Sincus sighed internally. He didn't like Marvin the moment he met him, and this further solidified his dislike towards Marvin.
"Go ahead."
Marvin turned angry at Chaus's cocky attitude. He took a sword off a guard's waist and charged towards Chaus.
Chaus looked at Marvin in contempt. Marvin had lived a sheltered life and no one dared to stand up against him. He didn't even know the basics of footwork. Chaus sweeped Marvin off his feet and Marvin fell on the ground. Chaus proceeded to step on Marvin's face and looked straight at Sincus.
Sincus smiled. He didn't know who Chaus was, but he liked him better than Marvin. Chaus was not only talented, but he also gave off an aura of a king.
Suddenly a spear flew towards Chaus. Chaus took his foot off Marvin's face and dodged the spear. He looked at where the spear was thrown, and saw a middle aged man who looked strikingly similar to Marvin. This was Marvin's father, Greg Vittori.
Greg's face was bright red with anger. "You seek death!"
Chaus looked at Greg with the same contempt as he did towards Marvin. Greg was only at the middle revolution stage, yet he reeked of arrogance.
Chaus pretended to be confused. "I don't seek death." Then he smiled at Greg. "Death seeks me."
Greg clenched his teeth in anger and looked at Sincus. Since Sincus showed no reaction, Greg believed this was Sincus's approval so he used soul integration and came straight at Chaus.
Brandishing his longsword, Greg slashed in an upwards motion. Chaus used soul integration and sidestepped while Greg continued attacking.
On the sidelines, Sincus watched in amazement. Chaus dodged Greg's longsword by an inch every single time. The skill to do this was unbelievable.
"This is getting quite boring." Chaus smiled. "My turn now."
Chaus dodged Greg's blade and kicked him in the stomach. Greg flew back a dozen meters and spit out a mouthful of blood.
Sincus narrowed his eyes. Chaus wasn't a regular person. He couldn't gauge Chaus's soul rank even though he was at the Domain stage.
The higher a person's soul rank, the easier it is to gauge someone else's soul rank, yet Sincus couldn't gauge Chaus's soul rank. He would have to investigate Chaus's background.
Chaus walked slowly towards Greg, and Greg backed away on his back. "D...don't come closer," Greg said in a fearful voice.
Chaus eventually reached Greg and leaned over him. In Greg's eyes, Chaus looked like a towering demon. A puddle began forming near Greg's pants.
"That's enough."
Chaus turned around and saw Sincus walking towards him. Greg grew hopeful thinking that Sincus was here to save him, and he did, sort of.
Sincus chanted a spell, and Greg was blown away by a gust of wind into a stack of boxes.
A domain formed around Chaus and Sincus. The domain was 10 meters wide and gave off a pressure that made Chaus tense up.
Inside the domain were multiple swords that whirled around in a threatening manner. Sword domain.
Chaus waited for Sincus to speak.
"Who trained you?"
"Dru."
Sincus's eyes widened in surprise. He knew Chaus wasn't lying with how fast he answered, but he didn't expect Chaus to be so straightforward.
"And who is this Dru?"
Chaus began mixing truth with lies. "He was my mentor. Bandits attacked my village and he saved me. He trained me for years until he passed away from old age."
After a while, Sincus nodded. "Why can't I see your soul rank?"
"Before Dru died, he gave me a secret technique that allowed me to hide my soul rank from prying eyes. After learning the technique, I destroyed the manual."
Chaus was careful with what he said. Humans were greedy and a technique that could hide your soul rank would be worth fortunes, thus he told Sincus that the technique manual was destroyed.
"And what is your soul rank?"
"Lower revolution stage."
Sincus contemplated for a while. A 14 year old boy in the lower revolution stage. Even with personal training, this was an extraordinary talent. If the human kingdom could make use of this talent, their power would increase, but if they couldn't, then he would have to die.
Sincus took out a clear orb from his pocket. "Put your hand on it."
Chaus did what he was told and the sphere completely ignited. It was as Sincus suspected.
"Since you dared to make such a large commotion, you must've wanted something."
Chaus smiled. "Dragonsend Academy. I want to enter Dragonsend Academy."
Sincus also smiled. This was perfect for him. If Chaus joined Dragonsend Academy, the human race would have a new talent, and Sincus would gain prestige by bringing him in.
"Since you completely ignited the aptitude sphere, then getting in wouldn't be a problem."
The sword domain receded and the carriage reappeared in Chaus's vision. Sincus walked towards the carriage and opened the door. "Marvin Vittori will no longer attend Dragonsend Academy due to personal problems. Instead," Sincus looked at Chaus.
"Lumen Anshard."
Sincus continued. "Instead, Lumen Anshard will take his place."
Sincus opened the carriage doors and motioned for Jessica to get out.
"Wait," Chaus said.
Sincus looked at Chaus questioningly.
"I would like to take her with me."
Sincus frowned.
Chaus smiled. "Not as a maidservant, but as a student.
Sincus looked at Jessica and took out the aptitude sphere. "Put your hand on it."
Jessica glared at Sincus and didn't move.
When Chaus said "do what he says," Jessica touched the aptitude sphere. 70% of the sphere ignited.
Sincus smiled at the result. "Seems like you're coming with us."
"No, I can't. I have to tell my parents I'm okay."
"I'll send a messenger for that."
"But."
Sincus motioned for Jessica to stop talking. "You're going to Dragonsend Academy. That's a privilege few will ever get. Now let's go."
Jessica stopped protesting and both Sincus and Chaus climbed inside the carriage.
