Chereads / Chaus: Dawn of a New Age / Chapter 20 - Dragonsend Academy

Chapter 20 - Dragonsend Academy

The journey to Dragonsend Academy would take a month. During the journey, little conversation was made between the three riders. Chaus, however, did learn more about Dragonsend Academy.

"What's Dragonsend Academy like?" Jessica asked.

A thoughtful expression appeared on Sincus's face. "It's a battlefield. Strength above all is the theme. Even if you're from a prestigious family, that doesn't matter if you don't have the power to back yourself up."

"Why would prestigious families send their children to Dragonsend Academy? Wouldn't they have powerhouses in their family who could teach them?"

"The professors are all powerhouses who are experts in their fields. The noble families may have powerhouses, but the amount of information and training they have at their disposal pales in comparison to Dragonsend Academy."

Jessica's eyes lit up with realization. "What do you teach?"

"Swordsmanship."

The conversation died soon after that.

Arrival at Dragonsend Academy.

Dragonsend Academy lay in the center of the three kingdoms. Tall castle walls decorated with banners surrounded the Academy, and a sea of green surrounded the castle walls. Statues of prestigious figures stood outside the arched gate that marked the entrance.

Chaus clenched his teeth when he saw one of the statues. Amelia Randas.

Sincus noticed Chaus's reaction. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing. It's just that this place is so grand."

Sincus smiled. "It truly is."

Chaus quickly regained his impassive expression.

Jessica relieved some of the tension in Chaus's body. "Look at all the carriages!"

Just beyond the statues, from what the eye could see, there were carriages upon carriages ranging from all kinds of different colors and designs.

Chaus asked a question. "Is there a professor in each of the carriages?"

"No. Only a special few get that privilege."

"Then your here because?"

"The Vittoris helped with fufulling a special mission."

Chaus didn't ask any further.

Soon afterwards, a loud female voice vibrated through the air. "Welcome to Dragonsend Academy. Please get out of your carriages and walk through the gates. That will be all for now."

Thousands of people began getting out of the carriages. After every person was out of the carriages, something extraordinary happened. The hundred or so professors began chanting and a large magic circle that exceeded the size of Dru's transmutation circle appeared underneath the carriages. The magic circle activated and all the carriages disappeared.

Murmurs of surprise and awe went through the crowd of students.

"Where did all the carriages go?" Jessica asked in awe.

"They were sent back to where they came from."

Jessica was shocked. "Is that even possible?"

"With magic, anything is possible."

After the carriages disappeared, the students moved towards the gate entrance.

"This is my call to leave." Sincus used elder magic and teleported away.

Chaus and Jessica started moving as well.

Chaus scanned the surrounding students. He saw especially beautiful figures with pointy ears and short figures packed with muscles. Elves and dwarves, respectfully.

What was more surprising was how powerful the souls of some of the students were. Most students had souls in the initial and vitality stage, but there were also a good amount of students who had souls in the revolution stage.

Jessica gaped in awe. "This is amazing."

"Sure is."

Chaus and Jessica turned towards the owner of the voice. It was a human male with long straight auburn hair and brown eyes. He was the same height as Chaus, but had less muscles. Wrapped around him was a green robe and in his right hand was a wooden staff.

"You are," Chaus paused. "A magician?"

"You guessed it! The names Sergi Vainsworth. And you?"

"Lumen Anshard."

"Jessica Moon."

Sergi smiled. "Pleasure to meet both of you."

"You seem awfully excited," Jessica observed.

"Why of course. This is the famed Dragonsend Academy. Only 5,000 students are chosen every year to attend. Everyone who graduates becomes an important figure in Tsirgia. How can I not be excited?!"

It was at this moment that a young female with auburn hair made her entrance. She looked similar to Sergi, but she dressed more fashionably. Tight pants and a shirt that matched her hair.

"Has my idiot of a brother been bothering you two?"

Sergi feigned hurt. "Hey!"

"I'm Fionn Vainsworth." Fionn looked at Sergi. "He's my twin."

Sergi retorted. "I'm your twin? You're my twin!"

The bantering group continued with small talk until they entered the academy gates.

Inside the gates was a massive courtyard hundreds of meters wide. In front of the courtyard was a building that held a glorious balcony overlooking everything. The building was made of marble and had a smooth architectural design that made it look like a church. Behind the initial building were other massive buildings multiple stories tall. Dragonsend Academy was so massive it could be a city in itself.

On top of the balcony were three figures. Each one exuded an incredible aura, so much so that some students found it difficult to breathe.

The figure on the left was a male elf. He was dressed in green and white robes, and had white hair. Calling him beautiful would be an understatement. The figure on the left was a male dwarf. He was around 140 centimeters tall and large chiseled muscles covered his body. He wore a piece of white cloth that showed his arms, and gray trousers that covered his legs. The middle figure was a female human. She had long blonde hair and green eyes. She was around average height, and her beauty was slightly below that of the elfs. She wore white trousers, a white shirt, and a black vest.

Chaus clenched his teeth in anger when he saw the woman in the middle. She was strikingly similar to Amelia Randas.

Soon, all 5,000 students filled the courtyard, and cries of excitement emerged from the students' mouths.

"That's High elf Dionoor!"

"Blacksmith Rrak!"

"Lady Cindy!"

Chaus had read about these figures. High elf Dionoor was a powerful elf who spearheaded the elves into a golden age. Blacksmith Rrak had smithing skills second to none, and Lady Cindy was known as a goddess with incredible talent who was deemed to break the shackles of humanity. They were legends in their own race, but now, they were here at Dragonsend Academy.

Cindy raised her hand and everyone went silent. "Today you enter a new era of your lives. Today you start your journey. Today you enter Dragonsend Academy."

A deafening symphony of cheers rang through the air.

High Elf Dionoor raised his hand and the cheers faded away. "You all must be tired from a long journey. Inside this building, you will undergo a test that determines your room assignments. The higher you score, the better your rooms are."

Blacksmith Rrak added on. "Additionally, class priorities are given to those with better rooms. Here power triumphs all so all of you cocky nobles better get off your high horses."

"Now," Lady Cindy said, "go and get your room assignments! Afterwards we will explain more about this glorius academy."

Students immediately walked towards the building eager to get their room assignments.

An excited Sergi started jumping. "Let's go!"

The group of four walked inside the building.

The inside of the building was packed with 5,000 people, and it was still able to hold a thousand more people. Three large holograms with a list of names floated in the air. Each hologram was dedicated to a single race, and a list of numbers were portrayed on the holograms. This was the assignment rankings.

There was a long red carpet that stretched down the center of the building, and to the left and right of the carpet were hundreds of floating orbs.

Students could be seen touching the floating orbs and after a few seconds, they would fall down on their backs in fright.

Once he saw the fearful students, Sergi's excitement dissipated. "Well, this looks....eventful."

Some of the students formed wet puddles from where they fell. They were scared witless.

Chaus was lost in his thoughts. Everyone touched the orbs for different amounts of time, and when they lost contact with the orb, they were frightened. He had a probable hypothesis on what the test held.

Wasting time wasn't one of Chaus's strong suits so he made his way towards one of the orbs despite Sergi's vain efforts to stop him.

The rest of the group also did so, leaving Sergi the only one who wasn't near an orb. Sergi sighed in defeat and walked towards an orb as well.

Chaus put his hand on the orb and was teleported out of the building. What he saw was a field of white. Everytime he stepped, the crunch of snow resounded underneath his feet, and a snowstorm blurred his vision. He was in an illusionary world!

A beastly roar resounded in the world of white. Chaus instantly used soul integration and his vision was enhanced. With his enhanced vision, Chaus was able to clearly see the beast.

It was a large two meter tall wolf with razor sharp teeth and yellow, piercing eyes. Its coat was so white it was almost blinding.

The wolf pounced on Chaus and started attacking him. Chaus easily dodged the dangerously sharp wolf teeth and threw a punch. Fist and coat collided and the wolf skidded meters back.

Chaus was surprised, but it seemed like the wolf was even more surprised. Even though he didn't use his full strength, he didn't expect the wolf to withstand his punch. On the other hand, the wolf was shocked that a human could exert such a powerful amount of force.

The wolf growled and prepared to attack again, but it suddenly spit out blood. It had sustained internal injuries. Despite spitting out blood, it still carried forth with attacking Chaus. However, before it could launch an attack, Chaus threw another punch and killed the wolf. The lifeless wolf made a muffled sound as it fell onto the snow.

Chaus scanned his surroundings and couldn't see another enemy so he decided to use this time to recover the little energy he spent.

It wasn't until 5 minutes later that another wolf appeared. This wolf was bigger, fiercer, and more powerful than the previous wolf.

Rather than giving the wolf the initiative to attack, Chaus made the first move. He used Dragon Steps and immediately closed the distance. The wolf had no chance to react when Chaus punched the side of its head, killing it in one blow.
