Chereads / KICKBOXER: THE COMEBACK KID / Chapter 11 - Heavyweight Training

Chapter 11 - Heavyweight Training

Leo, Frank, and Danielle walk into Frank's gym, seeing kids and regular adults working out.

"Wow. I didn't think you'd keep this place open after retiring." Danielle says.

"I said I was retired, I didn't say anything about closing up shop. Some of the kids come from bad neighborhoods, so I let them hangout here to keep em out of trouble."

Leo takes off his jacket and smiles.

"Just how I remember it."

Frank walks up next to Leo and puts his hand on his shoulder.

"Time to get to work kid."

Later, as Danielle wraps Leo's hands with tape, Frank paces back and forth, talking to him.

"Jailhouse fighting makes ya tough. But it ain't professional, you already know that, kid. I mean look at ya, you're a heavyweight now. And being a heavyweight is a major change than being a middleweight."

As Danielle finishes with the tap, Frank leans down to get eye level with Leo.

"These guys are durable and fast as hell, and they'll be coming to knock ya head off your shoulders. Danielle gotchu a fight in four weeks. Let's see if we can get you ready by then, alright?"

Leo nods, with a determined look on his face. The young fighter begins to train all day and all night. He does pull ups, push ups, sit ups, and run laps through the neighborhood. He would also jump rope, and do shadow kickboxing in the ring. As three weeks pass, Leo works himself to the bone and gets himself in even better shape than he was before.

On the day of the fight, Leo practices his punches and kicks on a heavy bag. As he does, Danielle can't help but stare at his muscles. Frank notices this and smirks, causing her to blush and turn away. At that moment, As Leo continues to strike the heavy bag, a few kids gather around and watches. Leo stops for a moment, and look at the kids.

"Alright kids, let's give Mr. Saint some space." Danielle says as the kids groan.

"It's ok. They can stay."

Danielle smiles and let the kids stay and watch as Leo continues to punch and kick the heavy bag. While he trains infront of the kids, someone records in the background.

That night, Leo prepares himself for his first professional fight in years. He closes his eyes, takes a deep breath, and slowly stretches his hands. Frank then walks into the room.

"It's time, kid." Frank says.

Leo opens his eyes, puts his mouth guard in, and puts on the hood of his robe, with a very intense look on his face. He stands up and follows Frank out of the locker room, ready to fight again.
