It's been a few hours since Calvin left since she had nothing to wear, so she settled for the bathrobe, then washed and cleans her outfit so she can wear it to work tomorrow.
It already had an internet connection, the password and the phone number were on a sticky note beside the phone. She can't sleep, so she called Roy.
"Mi, your mom insisted for me to come tomorrow."
That was his intro, sounding anxious.
"That's fine, someone paid it forward already."
She said dreamily.
"What do you mean, someone paid it forward?"
"Well, a boss of my company offered his luxurious apartment to me."
Then she took a picture and sent it to him.
"Seriously?"
Roy widened his eyes and then close and widened them some more.
"Dude, this is sick! But why would he do that?"
Roy as himself, he automatically showed the picture to his wife.
"Woah, Mimi! that apartment is sick!"
She looked unbelieving at first but laughed because of her luck.
"Well," she made herself comfortable in the bed.
"Calvin, one of the executive lawyers, found me distressing in the business district."
She then retold what happened that afternoon.
"Mimi, I am happy for you but make sure that executive of yours doesn't have a motive for you."
Roy warned her, he always suspects people around her.
"There you go again. He was just trying to motivate me, that's all, plus he saw my apartment and-"
She hesitated to tell her friends because they'll worry.
"And?"
Niella encouraged her to continue.
"Well, he told me that my apartment was a dumpster and we have a reputation to follow."
"Hm, if he didn't offer this one-of-a-kind apartment, I will be pissed, but since he had a suitable replacement."
Roy said while nodding his head in absolute approval.
"Without that apartment, he would sound like an asshole to me. I'm not gonna lie."
Amie had a dose of motion sickness of Roy's moving around.
"He's nothing like that-" and she wanted to let them know that she already told him everything about her mother but, they'll worry again and would scold her.
"Alright Mimi, rest now, call that mover's company early tomorrow."
They said their goodbye, and she settles in the bed. It's so comfortable that she's not used to it.
She didn't feel like sleeping yet so she brows Instagram. A few minutes later, her phone rings and the caller Id was Mother.
"Hi, mom."
She wanted to be as enthusiastic but she can't pull up a nicer tone.
"You don't sound happy to hear from me."
Bern said, very indignant.
You bet I'm not, but she instead answered:
"I'm happy to hear from you Mom, I'm just tired today."
She was waiting for her to open up, regarding her moving to Palmera and giving the house to Roy.
"Oh, okay, this won't take long. I have decided to move to Palmera with your aunt Maggie."
She cleared her throat, then continued.
"I'll be in Palmera before Friday, Joe's birthday. Also, I lent the house to Roy I don't want to sell it."
Mostly, she didn't feel angry or sad lending the house to her best friend, but Bern coming over to Palmera was what she worries about.
"I've already heard that from the couple." She sighed heavily.
"Aren't you happy? We can see each other often."
She said enthusiastically. With that, even if her mother had the worst parenting strategy, she's still her mother and Amie loved her so much.
When Bern sounded like a child having a new toy made her pleased, she wanted her mother happy.
"I'm happy Mom, I need sleep. My boss transferred me to a nicer apartment because of reputation."
Bern deserves to know, so she told her voluntarily. She told her what happened except the part that she bad-mouthed her to him.
"Oh, that's very fortunate, then I won't have to worry where I will stay when I transfer."
Oh god! Please help me with my mother's vexations. She pleaded, almost crying.
"Alright, sleep now, and don't forget to come over to Joe's birthday."
She knew her mother was planning something again, but she'll worry about it later.
After her mother hanged up the phone. She was so anxious that she couldn't sleep, so she got up and inspected the furniture and pictures in the room.
There's a picture of a teenage girl wearing a tutu in a ponytail, smiling brightly with braces. She looked charming and adorable.
And there were also pictures of a baby from a few days old to the moment it crawled and walked.
Can this be Calvin's son? It's none of her business. She could put it away and put it back when she can afford a nicer place.
The pictures finally could no longer entertain her, taking her time going back to the bed and brows the social media some more.
A news pop-up and showed that Gordon international's products were being targeted by malicious propaganda. She knew that Gordon International was owned by aunt Maggie's family.
That will add distress to her already a burden. She developed a good amount of pity towards aunt Maggie.
She would finally meet her this Friday and she'll surely get to know her better. She regretted the time not knew her in person.
If she kept in touched with her mom despite her status in the society, that meant she's a good person. Even she had trauma with her mother's parenting style, Amie can't deny that her mother is a good person.
Everyone loves Bern in the community she grew up with. They couldn't be friends for so long if her mother thinks Maggie was despicable, can she?
Finally, she set aside aunt Maggie and her mother and focus on falling asleep. But something with aunt Maggie's last name bothered her.
Timothy Gordon, she's wondering how are they related.
She could still remember that sweet kiss they shared in her senior year. He said she was his, but never saw him again after that night. He never submitted that term paper. Which almost pulled her grades down, but since the teacher knew Timothy Gordon was not always in the class, she gave Amie consideration.
