"Hello, can I please speak to Maggie Gordon?"
There was someone that answered the phone. Amie called aunt Maggie's number given by her mother.
"Hold on a sec." She heard footsteps on the other line.
"Hello, this is Maggie." Her voice was of a cheerleader, she didn't sound old at all.
"Hi! aunt Maggie, it's me Amie Chen, Bern-"
But Maggie cut her out.
"Mimi! Oh my gosh! I can't believe you called! Where are you right now, let's meet at lunch!"
Her enthusiasm was almost the same as her mother's.
"Uhm, I-"
She can't finish a sentence when Maggie interrupted her again.
"Alright, I'll pick you up. Don't worry about getting late. I know Mark Cross, he'll be okay if I tell him we have business together." Then she gave a high pitch laugh. So obvious that she was happy with her call.
"O-okay."
With no way out, she agreed. But she could, at last, see her and somehow tell her she'll be handling Jayda's case.
"Amie! how have you been, are you comfortable in the apartment?"
Calvin sounded elegant as usual and looked formal when he passed by her desk.
"Of course! Thank you so much!"
She was so appreciative that she almost hugged unconsciously.
"And also thank you for the dinner."
Her smile was as wide as her face, showing all of her teeth. She didn't care if she looked like a grinning derp meme.
"I would invite your mother next time." He chuckled.
Then he walked on by waving his hands. That looked impressive in Amie's eyes.
She didn't answer but looked at his back admiringly.
She didn't know that Cherry, the girl who gave her tour, was observing her interaction with Calvin Pierre. She was hugging a pile of paper and her right brow is raising.
She was to submit a case to an executive lawyer for the Gordon International case, but she stopped, tagging Amie as her rival to Calvin.
She studied Jayda's profile she thought she looked familiar, but she forgot where she saw her. Maybe her mother showed her pictures before.
The picture of her in a wheelchair. Hair draping her face, but her eyes had a prominent green color. She looks super pretty, even in this state.
They diagnosed her with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. She also has anxiety, depression and psychosis.
She's been in a catatonic state since she gave birth. She had manic episodes and sometimes attacked anyone.
She rubbed Jayda's picture as if she's in person. Amie felt distressed by this girl's condition. Then studied the profile of the accused criminal. According to his statement, he denied doing it. He only took the blame, but since the family he's been protecting with, he said he's ready to tell the truth.
The previous person who handle's the case was Calvin. She was ready to visit his office when she receives a call from Maggie.
"Mimi, I'll wait for you at the parking lot."
Amie stared at the computer's clock and it's five minutes before eleven.
"Aunt Maggie, let me ask permission to one of the head lawyers."
She is actually worries to offend both parties, considering she's a new lawyer.
"Oh okay, go ahead." Aunt Maggie giggled that laugh when a daughter finally knew how to tie her shoes and it's her first day in kindergarten.
She rushed to Mr. Cross' office and knocked on the door, then opened it; she peaks and speaks out her intent right away.
"Hi, a client called and wanted to meet me now, can I go?"
Mr. Cross looked impressed. "Of course, go ahead."
"Thanks!" She gave him a smile, closed the door and run to the parking lot.
"Oh, Mimi! You look fantastic!"
Maggie knew her from afar. She even met Amie halfway.
"You look beautiful in person! Oh, my gosh." she clasps her hands exaggeratedly and hugged her.
"It's good to see you aunt Maggie." She smiled with her derp smile style.
"I'm thrilled to see you too!"
Obviously, she looked like she's peeing her pants.
"Come, let's get you food. I knew a restaurant that are trending to young people nowadays."
Aunt Maggie dragged her into her car and drive Amie while talking nonstop very much like Bern. Amie sighed, friends of the same feathers are the same species indeed.
"Good to know Mark allowed you to come." She said still giggly.
"Aum aunt, about my job, I didn't expect they'll give me Jada's case."
That made a halt to aunt Maggie's tatters.
"I'm terribly sorry, I didn't mean to-"
But back to her usual tattering she stopped Amie again.
"Well, I'm very blessed that it is your hands now Amie, Jada's case is in the dark side of the moon ever since. Now that you're into it, I know you'll take good care of it."
She took Amie's left hand and squeezed it.
"Of course! I'll make sure that the criminal will have his right punishment."
She already promised herself that and now to aunt Maggie.
"I know." She smiled sadly.
"Oh, Joe saw your picture and said he will marry you, don't mind him too much will you? He's turning five this Friday." Now she's back at her old self. It's Amie's time to giggle.
"Does he go to school now?"
For the lack of anything to ask.
"No, sadly, he had social anxiety and panics when he can't see me."
Right she basically raised Joe alone.
"Oh, he just needs friends, he'll grow it up." She tried to console the lady by squeezing her hand, she's been through a lot.
"Let's hope so." Giving Amie another sad smile.
The restaurant aunt Maggie was referring to is a vegan Thi restaurant. She can't tell her it won't last her two hours and needs protein.
"Try this brocoli and mango smoothie, this where Tim brought me few months ago."
They ate and talked about everything including her mother's moving to Palmera.
"I'm sorry if you feel like your mother is stalking you Love, but I was the one who pushed her to come."
She shook her head, now she understands, and she didn't mind, as long as she didn't literally stalk her.
"I know aunt Maggie, Mom care dor you a lot, I can't wait to meet Jayda and Joe."
It relieved the old lady at what she had said.
"Thank you, darling."
And then she ordered some salads. Surprisingly, it's not that bad.
"The grilled chicken with white sauce also tastes good, here try it."
Aunt Maggie feed her with a forkful of chicken.
Indeed, it was delicious.
