"If you would be so kind, I would like to know everything you can tell me about this castle in the mountains," Xovlion said before taking a sip of his water.

"The castle is high up in the mountains, hard to reach but for a small road that leads through. It's said that a powerful vampire once ruled these lands from the castle there, using an army of the undead before it was sealed away. Know I and the rest of the villagers fear that those pesky adventures have woken it, bringing the curse of the undead to our lands once more." She said, confused as to why she was saying so much freely.
Xolvion nodded.
"And how exactly do we get to this castle?" He asked as he smiled at her, causing her stomach to fill with butterflies and her knees to weaken, with her reaction getting a confused look from both Luna and Crystal.
"Take the road due west from here and follow it into the mountains. Once you come to the fork in the road, take the right lane and take the high ground over the mountain pass." She said.
Xolvion nodded and gave her a wave of his hand.
"Thanks, that's all for now." He said with a wink.
The innkeeper blushed and walked away as he told her to leave the three of them to finish their meal. Luna wasn't sure why her master wanted to know more about this castle ruled by a vampire, but it mattered little to her, as she would follow him no matter where he went.
Crystal had finished her breakfast and focused on Xolvion, deciding to ask him what he was thinking.
"Why are you so bothered about this castle master?" She asked with wonder in her big blue eyes.
Xolvion couldn't help but smile at how innocent she looked as she asked that question.
"Well, you see Crystal. I think we should go and investigate that castle and find out if the rumours and stories are true." He said, getting a nod and smile from her.
"When are we heading out master?" Luna then asked.
"Now," Xolvion said, before swirling the last of the water in his cup and drinking it, getting a surprised reaction from the girls.
With that said and done, Xolvion led the three of them into the village and towards the west road as the innkeeper had said. Each of them noticed how on edge the villagers seemed as they tried to act normal.
Their behaviour seemed to further confirm his suspicions that something was afoot, now wanting to see what was really going on even more so than before.
It didn't take the three of them long to reach the fork in the road, again just as the innkeeper had said they turned right, taking the high ground into the mountains path, following it from there.
The path took them higher and further into the mountains, through steep and winding roads that seemed to be never ending.
Luna's stamina was more than sound for her to keep going without issue, however, Crystal, on the other hand, was a little worse for wear. She may have inherited the holy saint of ice's power, but she was far from being able to control that power yet.
"Come on Crystal keep up," Luna said, seeing that her pace was slowing down.
"I'm so tired... These hills are killing me." She said trying to catch her breath.
Xolvion stopped and turned back to look at her. It was not so long ago that he too struggled so, remembering his past all too well.
"Lets take a small break." He said, offering her a smile.
Crystal blushed a little but welcomed the idea as she sat on a rock, resting while she had the chance. Luna stayed standing and crossed her arms but Xolvion decided to also sit down, taking in their surroundings.
The air was peaceful and the sun high in the sky, providing a harsh heat from its glow.
"If I remember correctly, the undead dislike the sun's rays, avoiding it at all cost." Xolvion thought as he opened the palm of his hand, igniting a flame in it with his magic.
Crystal had caught her breath now and watched in amazement at what Xolvion had done.
"Wow, master that's amazing!" She said.
Xolvion smiled as he suddenly allowed the power he had absorbed from her to turn the fire into ice, cupping the block in his hand before he looked at Crystal.
"You have this power too." He said.
Luna was also impressed at her master's powers, watching as he melted the ice, reigniting the fame in his hand before closing it and putting it out.
"You mean I can do that too?" Crystal asked, confused.
Xolvion thought this might have happened when he took away her memories. Knowing he would have to be careful how he went about teaching her about her powers.
"That's right." He said, getting another strange look from her.
"Maybe one day I can teach you." He said, laughing at the thought.
"Really! You would! Thank you, thank you, thank you!" She yelled as she suddenly burst into a jump, wrapping her arms around his neck.
Xolvion slowly returned her embrace, even through the glare that Luna was giving them.
"But for now, let's focus on reaching this castle." He then said breaking the hug.
"Yes master, I'm all better now and ready to go!" She shouted happily as she let go of him raising her arms into the air.
"Alright, lets get moving then."
With that, the three of them headed out, following the path further and further into the mountains. Time passed as the sun got lower and lower in the sky, soon turning to dusk. Xolvion could feel a strange shift in the air, using his wolf-sense ability he could tell that there were enemies all around, closing in on them fast.
"An ambush?" He asked, not sure how he had been so careless.
"But how?"
Luna had also noticed it too, quickly becoming on guard.
"Master!" She yelled, jumping to his side and waiting for his order.
Xolvion could see a larger number of skeletons and ghouls coming into view now, surrounding them on all sides and blocking their escape.
"Master what do we do!" Crystal shouted, taking a step back, scared by the monsters they were confronted by.
Xolvion looked up, over the small army of monsters and into the distance where his eyesight caught a glimpse of the castle.
"There it is..." He said quietly.
WIth that Xolvion took a fighting stance, getting himself ready for combat as he ignited both of his hands with powerful fire magic.
