The monkeys saw Garuda, the eagle carrier of Vishnu, swoop down near Rama and Lakshmana. He fanned Them with his wings and as his wings stroked the faces of the brothers, They regained Their strength, as if touched by a magic hand.
As the days went by, more of Ravana's best fighters died. Finally the demon king decided to enter the battle himself. He went to battle with his son Indrajit and commander-in chief, Akampana.
But Akampana was killed and this caused Ravana great worry. Hanuman and Lakshmana also fought with Ravana. Kama and Lakshmana then fought with Indrajit and the demon made Them fall with one of the deadliest weapons he had, called the brahmastra. Hanuman was then sent to bring the sanjivini herb from the Himalayas, to revive Rama and Lakshmana.
Hanuman flew to the Himalayas with one leap. But when he got there, he could not make out which herb he had to take back. So he picked up the whole mountain and flew back to the battlefield.
Sushena found the herb and not only Rama and Lakshmana, but all the wounded monkeys and other soldiers on Rama's side were revived with this herb! Lakshmana then faced Indrajit in battle.
After a fierce battle between the two, the wicked son of the cruel Rakshasa king was killed. There was great merriment in the monkey army but great sadness in Ravana's court. With Indrajit's death, Ravana had now lost his final hope.
