Now that all the others had fallen in battle, Ravana himself entered the battlefield. He wanted to kill Rama, who had caused the death of all the heroes among the Rakshasas.
He ordered his soldiers to surround Rama and kill Him. But Rama easily wiped out all those who attacked Him.
Then, He turned to face Ravana. Both of them shot arrows at each other. The demigods were watching this great battle from the skies.
Indra sent Rama a chariot, an armour and a bow and arrows for this final battle. When Ravana hurled his trident at Rama, at first the arrows that Rama shot did not stop the trident.
Then Rama threw the Shakti weapon which was given by Indra and Ravana's trident was broken. Then Rama tried to cut off each of Ravana's ten heads.
But every time His arrow removed one head, another one would appear on the same neck! Rama was confused.
Vibhishana then said, "My dear Rama, my brother, Ravana's life can be ended only if You shoot an arrow at his abdomen."
So Rama picked up the brahmastra and sent it towards Ravana. The weapon hit Ravana's abdomen and killed the demon king. All the demons ran away when they saw their mighty leader fall.
