Rama, Lakshmana and Sita moved from Chitrakuta to Panchavati. There, They set up a hermitage. It was a beautiful part of the forest and Sita was very happy there.
One day, a Rakshay who was roaming the forest saw Rama and fell in love with Him. She was very ugly. She was the sister of Ravana, the demon king of Lanka. Her name was Shurpanakha.
She knew the Rama would not find her attractive as she was, so Shurpanakha changed her form into that of a beautiful young woman.
She then walked into the hermitage and started to speak to Rama, "I am Shurpanakha, the sister of the Rakshasa king Ravana. I can understand that although You are dressed as a sage and live in a hermitage, You are a noble warrior. You are so handsome thus I am sure You will be a fit husband for me. I have some very unusual powers and can take any form I wish to. What can this wife of yours do? She is not as beautiful as I. She is so thin that she is only fit to be eaten by me. Become my husband and enjoy the forest with me."
