Ojero slowly opened his eyes, as he felt the comfort of the room's bed support him. His mind quickly regained its conscious, as he carefully and purposefully lifted the sheets from his bed, and put it to the side as he turned to the side, sat up, then stood up as he yawned away the remaining sleepiness trying to lull him back to the warm comforts of his pillow.
He moved towards the bathroom, quickly brushing his teeth before taking a long warm shower, feeling somehow energized.
After he cleaned off, and dressed up as usual. White undershirt, white colored shirt, black vest, black french pea coat, a pair of dark navy pants, and his black dress shoes.
He moved into the kitchen, feeling good. He almost had a little groove to his steps. As he collected the breakfast the staff sent to his room that morning, which was for everyone legendary and up, he found himself humming a tune he heard a bard play for one of his fathers grand feasts one time.
He ate the oatmeal with sugar, drank the glass of milk, brushed his teeth one more time before finishing up.
He put on 2 rings to go with his special platinum one. One was golden and had his family crest on it, and the other was a gold one with emeralds and sapphires circling it. The first one was given to him from his father years ago, but Ojero couldn't remember where he got the second.
Feeling fresh, he exited his room, and found a schedule hanging from his door. It was a simple piece of paper, with ink telling him his schedule. It was made using ink magic, and looked very professional.
Today, Ojero had every class but they were each only half of their usual length. Usually, he would only have half of the classes one day, the others the next.
His classes were; Scripting/Runes, Magic Studies, Magic Practice, Familiars, Leadership/Strategy, Team Combat, Weapons Training, Realistic Combat Duels.
The first 4 focus on magic based skills, and are all for his A days. The next 4 are for B days, but only the first 3 are for material combat and strategy, the last one is combat between students with both material and magic abilities permitted.
Only for today, he would meet and get to know each class and teacher while the real schedule starts tomorrow.
He stuffed the paper into his pants pocket after folding it, and walked with his head held high down the stairs and towards his scripting/runes class.
As he walked through the halls, he saw many other students going towards their classes too, and quite a few of them did a double take when seeing Ojero.
He was quite a handsome man, and with his very expensive clothes and jewelry, he looked like a prince moving purposefully towards the next valiant mission he had.
The truth was, Ojero had no real goal with this class. He only took it because he had to, and doubted scripting or runes would benefit him. He saw his power coming from his magic, not from strange mana imbued writing.
He arrived at the door to his class. It was made of stone, with many strange markings on it. It had no handle, and in its place was a diamond shape that had lines crossing through its corners to connect into its center.
Ojero simply waved his hand over this strange shape, often referred to as a rune, and it glowed green for a moment before the door popped open.
Inside was a rectangular room, with 12 rows of 5 desks. The teacher had a large desk at the front. The walls were covered in strange shapes like the ones on the door, but there were also random pieces of paper with strange words on them.
Almost all the seats were taken, as Ojero had arrived not long before the class was due to start, and so he had to take a seat at the back corner.
He didn't mind much, and appreciated the quietness of his seat. Since he was in the corner, he only had one desk mate.
She was a tall blonde girl with blue eyes, wearing vibrant blue colors. The instant she saw Ojero, she smiled and waved at him as he sat down.
"Hey desk neighbor! I am Litany! What's your name?"
Ojero put on his best smile and gave her a slight wave.
"Ojero Guestino, it appears we will be seeing quite a bit of each other in this class."
"It seems we will, so let's make the best of it, new friend!"
Ojeros eyebrow twitched slightly at her quick use of the word friend, but decided to not comment on it.
Before their conversation could continue, the teacher walked in. He was about 5'8" (172.72 cm), and was completely bald. He looked middle aged, and wore the traditional yellow teacher robes.
"Good morning class, my name is Professor Quinen. I have been teaching at Lumenbecs for 68 years, and will continue to teach here for hopefully many more."
"For those of you who are curious about what I teach, scripting is the art of learning the ancient language and inscribing it on weapons and items. The words will always turn invisible, and rarely ever are carved into an object."
"Runes, however, are directly carved into an object using a knife or other tool."
"The difference, you may ask? A scripter can do their work on the move, and oftentimes it is more for a quick defense or single-use offense boost, where runes are for when you have ample time to prepare."
"Now, to begin, take a book from the shelf and open to page 14..."
The class lasted an hour, before the teacher finished up. Ojero barely paid any attention to anything the teacher said, not caring much about either of his subjects.
When he finally dismissed the class, Ojero couldn't leave quicker.
However, Litany also left with him. He assumed she would quickly go a different direction to a different class, but she continued to follow him as he went towards his magic studies class.
He pretended to ignore her, as he continued moving on.
When he arrived, the door had many different colors on it, each representing a different core element, such as fire, water, earth, and air all in a circle.
This door did indeed have a handle, and so Ojero twisted it and walked it. To his surprise, Litany went in too.
Ojero was shocked to have not one but two classes with her, as the school had thousands of students so the odds were very low.
The classroom layout was the exact same as scripting and runes, so he took a seat in the 7th row, on the edge. Litany followed, and took the seat to his right.
Outside, he smiled and waved at her again, as she did the same, but he was mostly curious as to the odds of two classes with her.
They didn't talk, and a few minutes later the teacher walked in. This man was very old looking, and had long gray hair on his head. He had no beard, and a wispy mustache. His skin was very wrinkled, and looked as if he was a dead man walking.
However, he walked straight and tall as if he was still a young man, and was quite tall, reaching 6'0" (182.88 cm). When he reached the front of the class, he smiled a strange smile, which most likely was due to all the wrinkles, and spoke to the class.
"Good morning class, I am Professor Alint, and I have been teaching at Lumenbecs for 702 years."
At this number, the class gasped, and many thought he had simply forgotten the real year and made up a random number.
The teacher chuckled, and looked across the class.
"You must be thinking I am a liar? You would be wrong. That will be the focus of today's lesson; magical aging. I am certain you will wonder why some of your teachers do not age like normal people, and the answer is quite simple; our magic."
"Myself and many other teachers have the magical power known as 'Longevity.' This is a very simple power that allows one to survive for far longer than their usual limit, so long as their mana can support it."
"With more mana, you last longer with this power. Many people who have this power spend their lives learning and then dedicate their many years of experience to teaching. It is both a curse and a blessing to live so long, but it does give me joy to teach yet another generation."
"Now, there are many more subtle uses of this power. Some claim it draws power from time, and many have spent centuries trying to use this power as a time magic replacement. This, however, is completely false."
"The ability has no connection with time magic, and is instead the body being strengthened with our mana every second of the day. For those who have Longevity, their bodies will use mana to repair themselves, allowing their organs to live long past the usual limit."
"With this, those that spend decades training can extend this power onto objects too. They can make a teacup drop on the floor from 20 feet (6.096 Meters) and not even sustain a crack. This, however, is very draining on us, and can cost us our own life if we use too much."
"One man used it on his entire house, and lost over 7 decades of life. It is a very risky prospect, but with time comes learning, and with learning comes expansion. Maybe when I am long dead, and the Kingdom of Riote is forgotten from all history, will Longevity be perfected to make someone immortal, or make a weapon unbreakable."
Professor Alint laughed a little more at this, while most of the students were trying to understand his words.
Ojero listened intently, curious as to the possible usages of this ability in combat if he ever fought one. He couldn't think of anything just yet, but every ability has to be usable in combat somehow.
That entire class period was spent debating the Longevity power, and afterwards most kids raced for the door once they were dismissed, and quite a few were struggling to wake up from the lecture.
Ojero had learned a lot, and was pleased to see what else he will be taught in the class.
