After leaving her private office, Raine went back into the secret room and sat down for a while. Her intuition hadn't failed her once again but this time she was a tad bit angry because someone was trying to use her friends blood, sweat and tears to plot evil. It didn't matter to her who the recipient of the plot was, all she cared about was the fact that Rachel's restaurant had become a base for their operation.
She stood up and walked to the table beside the refrigerator. Seated on the table was another land line; there was at least one in every major room in her house because of her habit of not carrying phones.
She dialed Rose's private number and was surprised when she picked it up instantly. Rose picked the call but cut it after a second without saying anything. Understanding the signal, Raine sat back down and awaited Rose's call.
About twenty minutes later, the land line rung and Raine picked it up. "Are you alone now?"
"Yes, Ms. Raine. I'm in my car, I'm on the way home."
"Do you have anything to report to me?"
"Yes, Ma'am, I was planning on calling you after I got home. For the first day, I handled Miss Lina personally and I showed her brutality as I didn't want your uncle to find an opportunity to smear your reputation. I tortured her till dawn and planned on using our usual strategem of one day in, two days out.
However, as I was changing, one of my subordinates informed me the men your uncle brought had begun to take turns torturing her. I rushed over but damage had been done to her face. I made sure to exert discipline on them for breaking your rules in front of your uncle but it was obvious, he was angered. First aid treatment has been given to First Miss but I don't know how long she would be able to last if this confusion persists."
Silence reigned for a while after Rose stopped speaking but she could feel the oncoming storm from the phone.
"How severe is the damage to her face?"
"Madam President, I believe it is best you don't know. I'll do my best to make sure her face isn't scarred for life. Her dreams won't be killed prematurely."
"You know better than to promise me that." Raine replied seriously and even though they were far from each other, Rose could hear the unnamed threat.
"I've been with you for years. I know the consequences of breaking a promise to you Madam President which shows how serious I am about repenting."
"Do as you like then but make sure to get me the details of those who acted against protocol in my dungeon. I'll deal with them after everything is sorted out."
"I've already retrieved each of their files. I'll send it to your email later in the day. How should I carry on with the Young Miss?"
Raine drummed her fingers against the table as she usually did whenever she was contemplating something important. "Continue on with your initial plan but get her face fixed early. Give my new instructions to everyone including my uncle: I'm in charge of the investigation so my rules stand. Torture her only with the aim of getting her to confess and use the standard methods, no one must touch her face or upper body, leave no marks on her. Failure to comply with my rules will lead to my fury. No one should make me appear before my appointed time, I already have a lot on my plate."
"I will send out an emergency note now and raise it up tomorrow morning again as soon as I get there." Rose replied solemnly to which Raine was content.
"That aside, have you found anything on the previous assignment I gave you?"
Rose remembered the assignment instantly and knitted her eyebrows not understanding how to explain herself to Raine.
"You were unable to complete the task?"
"That's impossible, I take your tasks very importantly. I encountered some issues, there us someone trying to block my information gathering. It seemed like someone was a step ahead of me so it'll take quite a while to investigate properly especially as I have to keep a tight watch on Young Miss."
"I don't think I have that much time to spare. Get two of your most trusted subordinates to report to me tomorrow in the office."
"Madam President..."
"I understand that you want to finish it up but what you are doing is much more important and can't be done by someone other than you. Focus on Lina. I'll handle the rest and don't you dare feel guilty, I don't have time to try to comfort you."
"Yes, Madam!!!"
Just as Raine was about to put the landline back in place, something flashed in her head. "Are you still interested in doing something for me?"
"Yes, Madam President! I'll always be ready to receive assignments from you." Rose rushed out scared Raine would change her mind.
"While this particular task isn't too urgent, it is of importance and as my closest confidant, you're the only person I can trust with it to keep it secret."
"Thank you for the trust, Madam. What is the task?"
"Investigate my husband." Raine replied.
"Husband? You've married Mr. Weiner?" Rose replied neutrally while battling with her shock.
Kyle Weiner might be a great prospect for a lot of women but Rose felt Raine deserved much better than him. Her thoughts could be as a result of her blind loyalty but she didn't believe his aura is a perfect match with Raine's.
"No, I married someone else. His name is Dante Moore and he just relocated here. Trace his history and find everything you can about him. It will be a bit tricky so take your time and be thorough."
It was silent for a while as Rose didn't know what to say in response to the fact that her boss had married a stranger in the heat of the moment. Moreover, she did not have a right to counsel her boss. "Yes, Ma'am."
"Be very stealthy during your investigation. He isn't a normal person. He comes from a military background and was once my commander."
Upon hearing tips from Raine, Rose knew the task was not going to be easy at all so she calmed herself down. "Thank you for the warning, Ms. Raine."
After hearing from Rose that she would be careful, Raine cut the phone and stood up. It was late in the evening and her cousin would have searched for her throughout the house.
