"Damn it. They stole the academy's treasure and they are using it against use." Quincy mumbled and he was short of breath.
A third attack came in the form of a single arrow. The magic arrow came charging in at full speed. Quincy needed a break from blocking two attacks back to back. Quincy couldn't move and the arrow got in range, but Alexander swooped in from out of nowhere and tried to cut down the arrow. He swung his sword and connected, but the arrow was too powerful that the ground cracked under his feet. He tried to push with all his strength, but instead he was slowly being pushed back. Alexander was beginning to lose ground, if he had more mana left he could activate the swords special skill.
Suddenly Katherine sneaked up behind Alexander. She held one hand on the sword and her other hand behind Alexander's back.
"I got you." She whispered before channeling mana onto the sword. The sword began to glow red, and the magic arrow started to lose momentum. The sword was absorbing the magic from the arrow. Then Alexander gave one final push and deflected the arrow up towards the sky were it exploded. Alexander's hand started to shake, he never felt that much power from a spell before.
"What the hell was that?" Alexander asked dropping to one knee and balancing with his sword.
Before anyone could answer, another shadow mage appeared. They were floating in the air and in their hand was a fancy looking bow.
"That's ours you damn bastard! That's the academy's property!" Quincy shouted trying to caught his breath.
Without warning, Heather stepped up and fire her own version of magic arrows using light magic. The shadow mage countered by shooting more magic arrows. The arrows collided in midair causing a huge explosion of light.
"It's not over yet!" Heather cried out before stumbling to the ground. Katherine went to her rescue, only to find that she was injured. Her leg was bleeding and her dress was burnt around the spot. She couldn't defend herself against the magic arrows. The adrenaline kept her on her feet because she was not aware she was hurt.
"Are you okay? Please answer me." Katherine cried out. She was worried about her.
"Don't worry about me I'm fine." Heather tried to stand up again, but immediately fell onto Katherine's arms.
"Please Master hang in there."
"I said don't worry about me, just finish it."
Alexander got back up to his feet. He was not ready to give up yet. Katherine gently laid heather down, and proceeded to Alexander's side.
"It's seems trouble keeps following us wherever we go, don't you think?" Katherine asked him. "Do you think we are cursed or something?"
"Ever decision we made, was a mistake." He laughed.
"So, do you have any bright ideas?"
"I don't have one. I just wish I knew what we are dealing with here."
Quincy interrupted their conversion. "That is one of the seven original magic items made by the Grand Master himself."
…
Before magic was common, one person obtained the ability to use magic. That person was later referred to as the Grand Master. Their magic was pure and raw, that it was too powerful for one person alone. The Grand Master decided to create a way for other people to use magic. This lead to the creation of the seven magic items. The items were: A sword; a shield; a bow; a spear; a grimoire; a scepter and a scythe. All these items had raw magic and were powerful. The Grand Master choose seven people and give them one item each. Those people became 'The First Generation Mages'. The seven magical items were easy to use. Anyone could use them, but these items also destroyed the natural order of the world. These items are the reason why everybody can use freely.
…
As the years went by, the items were divided by the kingdoms. Ever since people learnt to use magic on their own, people labeled them as useless.
"Care to explain why the academy has one of those weapons lying around?" Alexander asked Quincy
"For safe keeping, I don't know. It was there when I became head master. Who knows why it's there?" Quincy replied, getting angrier the more he saw the bow.
"Well that's irresponsible… Doesn't now anyways. Let's hope I can still fly." Alexander inserted the sword back inside the scabbard and began to crouch down.
"Do you need a hand?" Katherine asked him.
"No, I just need a little push."
Katherine channeled some mana into Alexander's body. Suddenly his boots began glowing, and two magic circles appear. The plums of his hand began to glow as well, then a flame appeared under his boots.
"What type of magic item is that?" Quincy asked curiously.
"The homemade type."
Alexander's boots let off an explosion which propelled him towards the enemy with great speed. It took the shadow mage by surprise, but before the mage could react, Alexander popped up in front of them. Using the momentum, Alexander drew his sword and sliced the shadow mage across their chest. At the same time the mage shot Alexander with one final magic arrow. The arrow shot straight pasted his shoulder and they both crash landed somewhere on the academy grounds. The cut on the shadow mage was not fatal but it was deep enough to immobilize them. Alexander landed a few meters away, with a hole his shoulder. Both of them were bleeding but the shadow mage managed to stand up.
"Damn… it. I need… to… get... o-out off… here." The mage said in a soft voice. It turned out she was a female. Her face was covered, but you could tell her gender by her voice.
"S-stop…" Alexander struggled to get to his feet. His vision was got blurry and he simply collapsed. He was not giving up, even though he was injured. Alexander began to crawl, even though he couldn't move one of his arms. The shadow mage saw him approaching and decided to make her escape.
"IT'S NOT… TIME YET!" She cried out as she tried to cast a magic spell, but the magic circle simply shattered like glass. She was surprised and afraid, she could escape.
"IT'S TOO… EARLY FOR YOU!" She cried out again, trying to run away, but she was too injured to move quickly. Every small step she took, more blood kept dripping down from her chest. Suddenly tree roots began to grow under her and she got entangled by them. With his blurry vision Alexander saw the tree roots, he couldn't help but smile. 'It's over… after that last shot, I didn't think I would make it. You saved me again, you are truly amazing… Thank you… Katherine.' He thought as his vision faded, but before he did he heard someone call his name.
"ALEXANDER!"
…
"This is becoming a habit." A man's voice echoed in the air.
"What? What habit? Who are you?" Alexander asked.
Alexander opened his eye and saw nothing. He was laying on his back; he couldn't move his body. It felt more like his body was light as a feather, it was like he was floating. There was nothing but a white space that stretched far as the eye could see.
"Am I in Heaven?" He asked himself
"Well you're not in Hell." The man's voice echoed again.
"Then am I dead?"
"Well you're not alive… it's more like you're on your way there." The man's voice laughed, he was making a bad joke.
"JUST WHERE THE HELL AM I?" Alexander exploded with anger.
Suddenly flashes from the fight were projected in front of Alexander. The voice told him about how he there and why he was there. The voice didn't explain much but told him he needs to wake up before it was too late.
"It's not time yet." The man's echoed before fading away.
"Time? Time for what? Answer me"
…
Alexander woke up screaming, kicking the cover in the process and breathing heavily. He felt a shape pain on his shoulder where the magic arrow struck him. He ran his hands across his chest, only to find he was heavily covered in bandages. The room he was in was unfamiliar to him, so he was not sure where he was. He looked around and saw Katherine, who was lying next to him. Alexander was surprised his screams didn't wake her, then he noticed a slight glow around her, it was a recovery spell. She recovering her mana, since she used a lot mana during the fight, that spell put her into a deep sleep. Alexander he brushed her cheeks with his hand.
"Thank you." He said before accidently breaking her recovery magic. Katherine slowly woke up and saw a familiar face by her side.
"Good morning, sleeping Princess." He said with a smile.
Katherine didn't respond, more like she couldn't respond. Her emotions were all over the place. She smiled, cried and could help but be happy and sad at the same time. After running through so many emotions she embraced Alexander, squeezing and holding him tightly. Alexander wrapped his arms around her as he began to let out a few tears.
"It's okay now… everything is going to alright now. I'm here."
