"Mom! I'm sorry," Vicky said. She crawled to the edge of the bed, looking at her mother leaving out the door.
Vicky sat on the bed, and looked at Connor.
"What's wrong? Here put this in your mouth," Connor said, sitting beside Vicky.
"I'm a monster!" Vicky replied.
"No! Where's this coming from?" Connor asked. He looked at Vicky, who silently stared in front of her.
"One of my friends told me that that's why you guys don't take me out when you guys go together. She said it's my fault!" Vicky replied. She looked at the ground, sulking.
"Your friend's lying. You're not a monster. You're the sweetest thing I've ever known," Connor said. He hugged Vicky, who leaned on him.
"Now, open your mouth. Don't bite it, okay!" Connor said, as he put the thermometer in her mouth.
Vicky leaned on Connor, waiting for the thermometer to beep. Connor held Vicky closer to him. He took the thermometer and checked the temperature.
