Chereads / Unfortunate Lives system / Chapter 6 - Task one

Chapter 6 - Task one

Bai Lianhua used her limited brain cells and came up with a rough plan. She would first send this recording anonymously to Yue Linlan, then she would accept Wu Chenren's pursuit. You must know that both Wu Chenren and Yue Linlan are part of the mid to upper class and they have balls sometimes. With her identity, she barely qualified to get an invite but with Wu Chenren as a backing, she can get in. Then she can start looking for this girlfriend.

Actually, there was an easier plan but Bai Lianhua didn't have a hacking skill otherwise she would just hack Wu Chenren's phone and check his phone records and messages. What happened to knowing all skills in the world huh? She is a tasker - she's not supposed to be an ordinary person.

If the system was there, it would roll its eyes at the narcissism of this girl!

"System, is there a sending function in the surveillance panel?"

The system replied promptly: "There is and that is your 'golden finger'. Some other people have to learn how to hack, you can just record in real-time and send videos anonymously. Be grateful!"

Bai Lianhua cut the recording into smaller clips and only sent the recording of Wu Chenren confessing his plan to Yue Linlan. She also sent the other clip of Wu Chenren paying gangsters and pretending to be a hero to save the beauty. "This should do it for now! IF this girl doesn't believe it, I'll know she has a lower intelligence than me."

She dismissed the panel and then snuggled in her warm bed, promptly falling asleep. The next morning, mom Hu woke her up and gave her a glass of warm tea which she was grateful for since it was quite cold. She looked outside expecting to see the same highrise buildings she had seen for 20 years in her life but all she saw was a big tree and the gate to her house. "Hurry up! You're gonna be late for self-study!"

Bai Lianhua wondered why her school needed to start so early. She needed more sleep and less work. She immediately rushed out and barely made it into her seat in the morning. When she opened her desk to get her books, she saw a bunch of roses inside and another card. Her deskmate shouted: "WOW!" And all students crowded around her and saw the roses. "You're so lucky Huahua, you already have someone chasing you in middle school!"

"Don't ruin my reputation - everyone saw that l also just came in a rush. Also, l don't know who sent this..."

Someone snatched the card but fortunately, no one had put a name on the card so everyone had some fun speculating who sent the flowers. At recess, Bai Lianhua went to Wu Chenren's class and asked a friend to tell him to meet her behind the school cafeteria. That was a very secretive place where no one could eavesdrop easily.

When he came, she asked him what he was doing.

"I- [insert blushing jpg] don't want to give up! I want to be with you!" Bai Lianhua resisted disgust and said: "Wu Chenren... [insert shy jpg...actually, Bai Lianhua wanted to throw up but she couldn't so she just put her head down to hide her expression] my identity is different from yours! We are different! I don't want to drag you down." But in her mind, Bai Lianhua greeted all his 18 generations of ancestors. (Writer: Bai Lianhua was basically scolding all his ancestors)

Wu Chenren's eyes radiated with joy and he wanted to approach her and embrace her. Then he realised she was shy so he settled for holding her hand. "Are you free next weekend? We should go out for a date." Bai Lianhua looked up and smiled sweetly at him. That level 5 of charm and level 4 of beauty wasn't there for decoration - Wu Chenren was mesmerised for a few moments.

"We can go to the aquarium! You don't mind, do you? What about your fiancée? Does she know? I don't want to be scolded as a mistress who breaks people's marriages!" Bai Lianhua thought about her dead dog whom she left in the previous world and her eyes watered. Wu Chenren pulled out a handkerchief and patted her eyes. "Don't cry! I'll dissolve the marriage contract soon and fulfil you...just wait for a little while." Bai Lianhua continued crying and looked very pitiful: "You...do you actually like me? If you liked me, you would definitely dissolve the marriage contract first."

Wu Chenren continued trying to coax her but she was having none of it. She pushed him away and ran to the women's bathroom. She entered a stall and closed the door. She heard Wu Chenren calling her name but she didn't answer so he had to reluctantly give up. Bai Lianhua laughed hysterically and gave herself a pat on the back: "Would you look at that? My acting is not bad!"

The system, who had been watching the whole scene, couldn't watch Bai Lianhua lie to herself so it came out to dish out some hard truths. "You actually suck. When your head was down, you couldn't see Wu Chenren's expression of disdain. Also, when you started crying, he secretly rolled his eyes when you weren't looking. Is that what you call a success? You definitely need to practice more."

Bai Lianhua then cried for real. "Is there a problem with giving myself a bit of encouragement? Nothing has worked out for me since l started this stupid task! You don't give me cheats either so what can l do? You know l was a fashion major, not a drama major! What did you expect huh?"

She cried for what it felt like a long time and all her grievances were finally washed away. "Actually, you're not wrong. One thing l haven't done this whole time is improve myself. I've been treating this whole task like a joke but someone actually lost their life unfairly and l am here to help them." Bai Lianhua regained some confidence and made more plans to study acting. She also resolved to find tutors for every subject so she could pass her exams better

She walked out of the bathroom and went back to her classroom. She sat down and started properly concentrating on the class. Everyone, including the teacher, clearly felt that Bai Lianhua had changed and they also got stimulated. For a while, her class was invigorated with the spirit of learning.

At home, Bai Lianhua communicated her ideas to her parents and obtained support. She also reassured them that she didn't want to be an actress but that she needed to be able to know to pretend and hide her expressions well. With this support, she gradually became very busy and she didn't have much time to stare at Yue Linlan and Wu Chenren. Still, she continued recording them and then she would watch the videos on Saturday.
