Chapter 13 - Chapter 12: True Identity

I stare at the big body of the animal, before it is forcefully thrown across the room. I gasp.

"Rosemary!" I let out a sigh of relief. She frantically looks around and then I notice, that man is not here anymore. What about his spirit? It is not here too!

"Where did it go?" I ask. I didn't even hear a thing. Did it just vanish like that?

"Before that, why don't you explain something to me?" Rosemary gives me a pointed look and I shrink beck. All the rushing events are giving me a terrible headache. I could use some coffee.

"What the-?"

"Sandra?" I just hope it IS the real Sandra.

"I thought you had enough common sense to not open the door!"

"I do! But he imitated your voice so well, it just slipped though my brain." I try to reason.

"Girl! This is a magic world. Anything could happen." she scolds me while Rosemary extends a hand. I take it and push myself up. The headache is gradually increasing and the scenery before me is getting all twisted and blurred. I notice Sandra's worried face. She probably notice. But I can't hear a word she is saying. She looks like a muted tv scene. I laugh.

My ears start to buzz. My legs lost its balance and I see myself falling though I don't feel the ground. She probably caught me. From my blurred vision I see a new figure emerge from the door. My consciousness slips and I fall into a dark slumber.

Or, he caught me.

A groan escapes me. Who is talking? Can't they see someone is trying to sleep here? And what the hell? My head feels like it would crack open any time.

"Aaahhh" I grip my head and massage it with every ounce of force I could master if that could relieve some ache. My body reflexively curls into a cocoon as incoherent mumbles leaves my lips. Even I don't know what I am saying.

"Juniper? Can you hear me?" I feel a cool breeze and the air lifts me up in a sitting position. My head leans against a chest while I can feel a pair of hands placed atop my head. Slowly, the ache goes away.

"Yeah... I can" I answer weakly. Silvaris moves his hand up and down on my arm while the other pair does wonder in my head. I slowly get my vision clear.

"Aah what a day to live for." I thank Cecile for his healing magic. I feel way better, as if those events didn't happen. I want to go back-

"Wait, the mirror?" I ask Silvaris. His face is so close to me that I can see my perfect reflection on those clear rosy eyes.

"It is in a better condition than you."

"Oh thank God!" I should head home already. Five more pages and my job is as good as done. Who knows how long I was gone for.

I give him a little push, "Step back a little, will you? I need to return. By the way, how long was I out for?"

"Three weeks."

I freeze, "What?!"

"one day. You blacked out yesterday." Wow, the lord knows how to joke.

I stand up. By body feels incredibly lively. Is this the magic of elves?

"Do you know what happened yesterday?"

I look back at his poker face, "A man broke into your study."

"To?"

"Steal something confidential? I don't know what you lords do."

"He was sent for you, you fool!" I flinch at his sudden outburst. This might be my first time seeing him in such a rage, "You almost died in this damn mansion."

I suspected much. But I didn't want to believe them. It is not fair that they are also hiding things from me.

"Then," I harden my gaze as if that could make me look intimidating, "Why is my presence such a curse?"

He facepalms and flops on the bed that I was lying on. I look at Cecile and he gives me an encouraging smile and nod. I wonder what for.

"Look, there are a lot of knots in this situation. There is a possibility that your ancestors lived in here considering that you were taught Roran. But there are no traces of your family, Kite. So we have to look among the common peopl-"

Oh yeah. I did give them my father's name. My grandmother was from my maternal side. Should I correct it now? I am a little afraid.

"um... Silvaris...?"

He stops his train of speech, "What?"

"I might have to correct something." I take a deep breath, "My name might also be Judith Shanonn."

I close my files and stretch my back. Finally done with these works. Now I just have to deliver them to the office and then I can focus on my mess. Silvaris currently holds the longest record of lecture in my entire life. He scolded me so bad, I think I will rethink about it every time I tell another lie.

"What did you say? Huh? What? Why don't you say it a little later? Do you know how important family names are? And you just-"

Oh my God, it was so packed with sarcasm and lessons. I told him everything. My grandma and her mysterious study. He listened to everything. Then got up and left but not before telling me to return as soon as possible. Now I regret hiding things from him.

That day, I parcel the documents to my office address and call it a day. Thankfully my neighbours are not too nosy. I lie on my bed and thinking of the time I almost died. It was truly a miracle. If weren't for the spirit, I think I would have died from the shock and panic.

Rosemary and Sandra are so strong and confident. They took the spirit down within a second. They say that the spirit disappeared because the host retreated his mana. But I can't shake off the disappointment in myself. Silvaris told me not to worry to much. What does he think about me.

Why does it matter to me?

Since when was I mindful about others judgements?

Gaah I should sleep. Hopefully, tomorrow will be better. I hope they figure out about me. Shanonn. Shanonn family. A family who has strong influence in the governmental system. Does she actually have one? How will they react?

Who knows.
