Rain fell upon the mountain home. In the distance, Aldain could see the wind blowing the trees. In a dance that looked to go on and on. This was the first time that a storm had come over the Forest since both of Lanthim's brothers started living in the estate. The wind was so fierce it was a miracle the trees didn't blow over.
'The two of them were mad to go into the forest on a day like today. ' {Aldain}
Earlier Melryn and Fremlimta had both gone into the forest to do some hunting. This activity had the potential to be quite lucrative. Since the materials from the beasts in the forest could make an individual a decent amount of money. So off went the two of them leaving Aldain behind to do his schoolwork. The summer season was coming and the whole clan would be leaving for the Dragon Lands.
The idea of spending six months in a completely different culture was something he did not find interesting or necessary. While he was a person that enjoyed learning and finding new knowledge. Aldain had little desire to be going this way and that. When he could just read a book and the information was right there. When it came to the study of magic though book learning was not enough. So like Melryn how poured himself into this field of study. His mother always hoped for his one-sided way of seeing the world to unravel so he could look at things more broadly. A narrow worldview is a way to control one's surroundings. While allowing for some interests to flourish.
It was not that he hated people or wanted to be isolated from others. Being as young as he was coming out of his protective shell was not desirable at this time.
The time spent at home was different than it had been before his mother had divorced his father. A few months had come and gone and he now sat by himself when he would usually be with Melryn. Despite the age difference of two years, they had done everything together. Now with Melryn married Aldain was left to his interest.
This did not mean however that he was abandoned only that. The people around him got busier and busier while he felt he was standing still. A change had to come for a thing to move him toward a better future. Regardless the current situation was to his liking. He could do what he pleased when he pleased and would not be required beyond reason to do more.
Thumbing through his schoolwork he realized that the bulk was mostly finished.
Aldain always liked his assignments finished as quickly as possible.
Continue to go through the papers a knock came at the door.
"knock knock."
Without any discernable movement, Aldain opened the door from where he was.
In the door stood a maid who gave a low bow.
"Young master your mother has sent for you."
The maid waited for Aldain to either send her away or follow her to where his mother currently was. This being the case the young man placed down the schoolwork and proceeded to the door.
"Lead on." (Aldain)
He gestured down the hallway leading away from his room. The way around this place was still new to him. Also, his mother was never in the same place often so he would just follow the maid.
Coming to an open door within which voices could be heard conversing. The young man wondered what was going on.
"Syrelia the vowels need to be longer." (Lanthim)
Coming closer to the door Aldain could hear his older brother Lanthim talking in High Draconic. Peering into the room he could see a frustrated Syrelia going through a bunch of clothes.
"I do not see why we need to speak like this all the time it is so frustrating. "(Syrelia)
Currently wearing a green party gown it could be said that Syrelia was developing into a beautiful young woman. If only that frustrated look on her face would go away. From the corner of her eye, she could see Aldain looking into the room.
"Well, brother good you did not wander off into the forest like two certain idiots." (Syrelia)
In an instant, the entire room was fixed on him. Leinea and Mynrea sat together with Lanthim looking over a series of documents that he could not see. His mother Litralia stood behind a partition waiting for Syrelia to change into the next item.
"So Syrelia is getting a new." (Aldain)
"Swang."
The moment he started speaking two things happened. First Syrelia took off one of her heeled shoes. Second, she threw said shoe toward his head. As she did this Aldain deployed a barrier to stop the shoe from hitting him. Now the shoe hung in thin air having hit the barrier and impaled the heel into it. The anger on Syrelia's face grew more than before.
"I hate this." (Syrelia)
Was all she could muster as the little girl ran to her mother. Confused by what was happening a shrug from Lanthim was unhelpful.
"She has been struggling with learning High Draconic." (Illtris)
In an instant, Aldain understood the shoe. He had spoken in the language that Syrelia was struggling with.
Placing a hand on his forehead all he could do was sit and wait for his little sister to come back out.
"While it may seem a small thing to some. The ability to converse in High Draconic is a symbol of status." (Lanthim)
"That is true Lanthim but even among dragons, only a few select words are retained of the old tongue. Even I can't construct a full sentence with what limited words are known." (Mynrea)
"That is why the necessary documents have been provided don't worry I would not leave my family ignorant." (Lanthim)
'So the documents they a reading are learning materials.' {Aldain}
In an instant, Aldain understood what was happening. Having the entire clan go to the Dragon Lands was one thing. To go unprepared was pure lunacy and potentially destructive for further expansion in the future.
In the area behind the partition, Syrelia could be seen wiping her eyes. The little girl had always tried to absorb anything Lanthim gave her as quickly as possible. She was the only person in the world who understood how powerful he was. And at times the feeling of not measuring up to that mountain. That was her brother could be overwhelming.
"Learning a new language has always been the old enemy of many." (Lanthim)
To this, Aldain nodded watching a syrelia come back out from behind the partition.
"What about this one brother? " (Syrelia)
A two-piece blouse and skirt with a blue and red vest was the outfit this time.
"This looks good though the darker blue skirt would work better I feel." (Lanthim)
With a big smile, the young girl dashed behind the partition again. For a moment everyone in the room looked at Lanthim astonished.
"She did it?" (Aldain)
"I never doubted." (Lanthim)
