Chapter 38 - Chapter 37 The Master

Mynrea's estate

Having returned from a long day at the academy, Leinea had been followed home by Syrelia. Who currently sat next to her in the gardens. Being the only person  allowed to come up the mountain without permission. Syrelia enjoyed being surrounded by the endless columns of stone that made up mynrea's estate.

The both of them were currently looking through an atlas. In one of the many open areas that were placed throughout the garden. Both were seated upon a blanket prepared for them with Mynrea watching them from a distance. Under the current circumstances, Lanthim would likely not be pleased if something happened to his sister while he was away. So being increasingly observant of Syrelia's actions was what brought her here.

While she did not approve, of having another of her grandchildren brought into a very chaotic situation. Lanthim had to have a reason even if he never spoke of what it might be. Watching the two girls, continue to turn the pages of the atlas. Something occurred that Mynrea had not seen in some time.

Leinea as well watched startled as, Syrelia. Looked off into the distance like someone had spoken to her. But there was no one else present. If there was one thing Mynrea did understand. It was eventually this child's ability to see into the future would make her the envy, and prize for any clan wanting such power.

Staring into nothingness Syrelia seemed dissatisfied by what she saw. Frowning towards whatever it was that she had seen. with a simple blink returned to reality.

"What did you see Syrelia?" [Leinea]

"Since big brother has come home. I have been unable to get a clear viewing so I can't say." [Syrelia]

It was true Leinea had noticed that there had been a reduction in viewings. Syrelia would have at the academy since Lanthim's return on yesterday. As for how neither knew, however, being unable to see clearly was becoming a great inconvenience to Syrelia.

'Lanthim must want to hide her ability at all cost if he is suppressing it to this extent' {Mynrea}

Continuing to watch Mynrea had thought that such a power would be a great addition to her family. A simple marriage and everything would be done. Then as the relationship between Nedral and his wives began to weaken the plan to bring Syrelia in fell apart.

'If he wants to protect her so badly why a marriage? There are several other means by which he could achieve his goals?'

Regardless it would not matter. Lanthim would eventually marry her at some point, she would gladly see to that. There was also maintaining a good relationship with her granddaughter who she would have to share him with. While such things were not uncommon among dragon kind with humans such things would likely cause a great stir.

While she contemplated this line of thought. She could see out of the side of her eye a portal beginning to open. Looking through the portal as it opened Mynrea could see Lanthim preparing to cross. While the other two girls stared with amazement wondering how he could make a portal connection from almost the other side of the world.

"Brother that is amazing, and without a regalia too even Leinea can't do that." [Syrelia]

"You should not belittle the skills of others Syrelia. I doubt that there are any currently living who can do what I am capable of." [Lanthim]

Walking through the portal Lanthim didn't even look like the portal took any effort to deploy no tiredness of fatigue of any kind could be seen on his face. Looking about as the portal closed behind him Lanthim saw the open atlas.

"What are you looking at there?" [Lanthim]

Sitting on the blanket with Leinea and Syrelia he seemed interested in what they were doing. The happy expression on Syrelia's face brightened the entire garden like a second sun.

"I wanted to see the lands you traveled in order to reach the Forest of Legrcstim." [Syrelia]

"Yes, she was insistent on seeing exactly where the forest is, and since you stole the only map in your mother's estate. We have had to make due with one of my grandmothers." [Leinea]

Looking at each other for a brief moment both Leinea and Lanthim wondered what they thought of each other. Lanthim while having just returned was in every legal way possible her husband. All that was required now was for his seventeenth birthday to pass and everything would be history.

"I built my home on the mountain's within the forest. so you will see what I have seen soon enough." [Lanthim]

Hearing a gasp from behind him Lanthim turned to see Mynrea who was beyond shock by his declaration. Leinea also seemed lost for words by what he had said only Syrelia who looked more confused than anything looked between the two women wondering what was the matter.

"You have prepared a home already! Most would spend years making their first." [Mynrea]

"Yes, far enough away. I will not be required to trouble myself with clan responsibilities, and allow me to continue my training." [lanthim]

As the group continued to sit wondering what else he had done before coming home a maid came into the garden. A letter in her hand from Lanthim's mother marked as urgent.

"You still require my mother to ask for approval in order to come see you?" [Lanthim]

His tone while subdued had the weight to make mynrea feel she had done wrong. Seeing this Leinea felt impressed with how well Lanthim handled the much older women.

"I am not yours yet. I do not require a reprimand over how I handle my affairs." [Mynrea]

While what she said was true it still made her feel less worthy to be with him. Lanthim while a powerful individual never held himself above others always treating those who deserved his respect with equal in return. Feeling the pressure to conform to his standards was probably what she found the hardest.

Opening the letter mynrea looked shocked by what she read.

"It seems both of your brothers got into a fight at the academy." [Mynrea]

Lanthim looked to the letter while mynrea continued to read it herself.

"Apparently a young man named  Lanmair Cousrlim. Confronted the both of them with a few others. Your brothers are fine however, it seems they took the left hand of the young man who confronted them." [Mynrea]

Finishing Mynrea gave Lanthim the letter who read it quickly.

"Leinea could you take Syrelia inside? I will need the garden for a moment Mynrea you may stay." [Lanthim]

Picking up the blanket quickly both girls hurried into the estate without question.

"What could have happened an opportunity lost. To rid us of this marriage problem." [Lanthim]

Seeming a little frustrated with the outcome of the confrontation. Lanthim waved his hand which open a portal to his mother's study where both his brothers were being harshly criticized for their actions.

"Both of you here now!" [Lanthim]

Pointing to his side of the portal both seemed shocked by the sudden order. His mother as well while not questioning. Looked just as shocked not only by his sudden appearance but what he had said. Moving quickly to the other side both brothers looked like they had taken a beating.

"A corpse is easy to clean up a victim is not, and what you two have done is make this  Lanmair Cousrlim into a victim." [Lanthim]

Looking at each other in horror both Aldain and Melryn prostrated themselves before lanthim. Both had disobeyed the most important rule in the teaching lanthim had left to them.

*If it can be killed do not hesitate do not question just act*

"You had the opportunity to end this stupid little game, that our grandmother, and her friend Fienya. Continue to manipulate for their pleasure and what do you do?" [Lanthim]

The cold unfeeling expression on Lanthim's face made even Mynrea frightened. Shivers move up her spine as she tried to make sense of what he was talking about.

"There were too many of them, brother, we could not do anymore." [Melryn]

His face buried in the grass of the garden. Melryn gave an excuse for his failure not looking up towards Lanthim. Who stood looking down on him with fierce eyes.

"The enemy was right in front of you, and yet he still draws breath. Likely will have his hand regrown in time for classes ltomorrow." [Lanthim]

Walking around to the rear of his brothers Lanthim stopped looking to Mynrea who still did not completely understand what was happening. Lanthim was treating his own brother as if they were nothing but apprentices being disciplined by their master.

"We shall put aside this failure the time being, however, no mistakes will be acceptable next time. If an opportunity arises that you are able to kill Lanmair Cousrlim you must take it without hesitation." [Lanthim]

Rising to their feet both brothers seemed to shake where they stood.

"Yes Master."
