The two kept chatting a bit before going to sleep; Malin woke up to find Kieran already prepared breakfast.
"-wow, you can cook too. Interesting." She said sarcastically
"-I'm full of surprises!
-they better taught you how to fight better than braiding and cooking." Kieran just chuckled and smirked before he answered:
-but you gotta admit, I'm a good cook.
-yeah…OMG! It's almost eleven, we got to hurry up!" She shouted after looking at clock then gulped her drink and took an apple between her teeth ran to get ready.
"-toast?...No… I guess more for me.
-Hurry up!
-ok I am coming!"
They left the house half an hour later, walking between the teak-brown forest, with a huge silent filling the air; it wasn't awkward but more like; oddly companioble.
"-Kieran
-hmmm
-can I ask you something if you don't mind?
-since when, the bold assassin, ask for something politely? Specifically .From me." He scoffed, highlighting the last part, and gesturing at himself with his hand while glancing at her with a mocking smile.
Malin didn't answer him but fastened her pace looking forward, the white-haired boy caught up with her laughing.
"-hey slow down! I was just joking. Listen ask me anything you want, I won't mind.
-ok…" Mal cleared her throat and collected her thought before asking:
"-can you tell me about your mom?" Kier's heart clenched between his ribs and true feeling of nostalgia and pain crept to his shining grey eyes making them shade
"- Why are you; asking? Out of; sadden.
-yesterday, when you was talking about her, I saw pain in your eyes and your voice was about to crack.
-I didn't know you work as a psychologist and you can feel pain. Because when you put that dagger on my neck I thought it's the end, for a young charming prince like me.
-you are more of a stupid annoying moron than a strong handsome crown prince who is going to rule soon." She didn't bother to look at him but his sentence made her heart skip a beat.
"-yes I miss her, more than anything. She was the light of my life, the reason I am living today." He stopped to take a deep breath and finish:
"-you told me about your parents, and I guess you have the right to know about mine. A secret to secret." They smiled sincerely at each other, holding eye contact for a while before they both dropped their gaze in embarrassment.
"- well…when I was young I had unknown disease, doctors tried everything to help but it was all in vain.
One day a witch come to our palace and told my father that she can heal me but…they have to do a sacrifice…a death for one, a surviving for the other…father was about to sacrifice the life of one of the prisoners, but the witch said we have to be blood relate….making the situation more complicated because the only persons related to me are only my parents…so, my mom gave her life to save me. I saw her fading slowly in front of my eyes and I couldn't help, because… I am the one who killed her in a way or another….father kept blaming me for years till he knew its fate and he can't change the past. Sometimes I wish I died to let her live.
-I am sorry for your loss. But…you shouldn't be hard on yourself…your mom chose you over herself because she valued you a lot, you meant a lot to her. Look at the bright side. You have to work hard to honor her name, to make her proud that the sacrifice she made was worth it." Kieran smiled warmly at her, feeling a sense of comfort, of relief, a feeling that made a huge burden on his shoulder collapse and his heart beat again. Even so the heavenly feeling of security took over him, he felt its wrong, it's a sin he should not commit, having feeling toward someone will make him weak, vulnerable, incapable. It wasn't his nature to love it was to possess and own without return, be careless and free, selfless only his future matter. And Mal; was just a target he has to reach no matter what the cost.
Lust was the medicine and love was the disease that will make him suffer, he thought to himself years ago it was the right choice, he is an incubus after all, so it was undoubtedly the best decision. He promised he won't feel or show any sentiment anymore or, he has a heavy price to pay.
The prince dropped quickly his smile and looked back to the road. Silence filled again but Mal cut it:
"-by the way how is your injuries, I should have cleaned them before we left.
-well, no need." He unwrapped the bandage around his neck to show a smooth healed skin as for his knuckles too.
"-How?
-mom's death brought another advantage with it, quick healing with injuries." He lied and Malin nodded.
"-where are we now?
-I am gonna pay a quick visit to a friend." She answered, few minutes later they found themselves in front of a small house….
