Chapter 1 - 1.START OF JOURNEY

This is a story of a person who came out from a middle class family and worked hard throughout career to realise his childhood dream to become chairman of a company. He hardly had any support and fought with circumstances created by his colleagues, boss and even his family members. He had a habit of ignoring everyone. He broke many customs, altered rules and operating methods. He easily challenged authority and even withstood embarrassment in a large assembly. Later he further fout to deny people any favours. He forgot easy time and privileges. His close colleagues misguided and accepted his goal. He got cheated but never avenged. He believed in going. Finally he stepped up on dias to declare success. Some very close friends relished and many distasted. The term was over and he walked out with satisfaction but not any trophy. No precious gift or flower bouquet. He came with a smile and slept soundly.

It was real pride without any malice towards anyone.

He had completed tough innings in sick departments, and organisations in the last 36 years and tasted a rough and severe working environment. He found himself always a lonely walker although he never failed to carry his team with him. He came out victorious in every situation but none appreciated his hard work. All worked in murky water which he never liked. Therefore his release from any company was celebrated. He knew all this, but followed his own path.

In 2002 he retired from the Heavy Engineering Company of JESSOP. He had information about his selection but appointment order came after a week of retirement on 2nd July of 2002 and he joined as Chairman in the first week of August,2002 and was to retire on 31stJuly,2004. He had less than two years to show his calibre as Chairman of Hindustan Steelworks Construction Ltd, a PSU in financial distress where employees' payment remained unpaid for months. He was to lead a totally demoralised team of executives and workforce.

It was a big challenge he accepted as the last assignment of his career.
