Chapter 7 - Entering The Academy

"I had planned to stay as low key as possible." Yi Tan did not want to stand out. He knew with his social status, if he stood out too much, it would be bad. But this did not mean he would let others easily bully him. He just did not want to be the first to cause trouble. He would also not allow things to happen in front of him either. He was not someone who could walk away when someone needed help.

"That's good… To be honest, I wished I didn't bring it up. Now I am a bit nervous." Tim let out a sigh, trying to calm his nerves. He was worried about both his awakening and what would happen after.

Yi Tan was also worried about these things, but he figured it would be best to deal with the issues as they came about. His first issue was not to turn into a monster and end up dead before even having a chance to accomplish anything.

Yi Tan and Tim were both lost in their own thoughts when the bus finally flew down and hovered in front of them. The two waited their turn and got on the bus. The only seats were at the very back. Unlike the other busses, this bus was not as overcrowded as the others. After sitting down, Yi Tan decided to ask if Tim knew anything about the particulars of entering the Academy, "Hey Tim do you know what exactly happens when we get there?"

" The academy will hold awakenings once a year. It is held on the 5th of march, which is tomorrow. Although we are early, it is better to be early than late since they start early in the morning, around 4 am. So we will both be camping out tonight. Once the awakening starts, you will be ranked based on your type." Tim went on to explain…

Each awakening could be either elemental or physical. Elemental types can weld massive destructive power, but this also comes down to how much mana you have. How many times you can use your ability. Some people will only be able to use it once a day, and then after that, they are lethargic for the rest of the day. While others can use it as much as they want for days on end without any issues. The amount of magic your body absorbs will be a huge factor in this. Every person is able to awaken. So the amount of time it takes to awaken is also a way to measure a person's mana. Earth God Ben Freeman took two whole hours to awaken.

As for how powerful the element is, this is based on how bright the glow of the elemental color is. The brighter your elemental color, the stronger your ability is. The chamber you enter to awaken will have sensors inside which will record and put your power rating into a numerical value. Take Earth God Ben Freeman, for example. His power rating was over six thousand. Although his strength still has not reached the God of Lightning Tang Shen, he is still considered the number one in this current era.

As for physical abilities, these worked a bit differently. When a physical ability awakens, only certain parts of the body will glow. Whether it mutates or not is another question. The power of a physical ability had to be tested afterwards. Some of which could grow in strength if used enough.

"I hope I do not become a physical ability user..." Tim said as he finished his explanation.

"Why not?" Yi tan asked out of curiosity.

"Because unless it is something useful, you will become a punching bag for everyone else. Brother, you don't seem to understand the things that happen at the academy. It is the law of the jungle. If an elemental ability user kills a physical ability user, there will be no repercussions if that ability was nothing to look at. So let's say you gained a heightened sense of taste, and you got killed by someone with a fire ability. No one would even bat an eye. Your body will be tossed into the same incinerator they use for those who turn into monsters." What Tim feared most about the academy besides the awakening was getting an ability that would make him a target.

"I wouldn't worry about it too much now. It is not like you can do anything about it. Let's just take things in stride for now. I mean, what's the point of worry about the what ifs? Yeah, I am nervous too, but there is nothing I can do about it. I made this choice, and I plan to follow it through. Plus, who said just because you have a useless physical ability that you can't still beat that fire user. Are we not all separated by classes?" Yi Tan did his best to try to calm Tim down. But at the same time, he was also trying to talk himself into this same thought process.

"Yes, that is true… Now that I think about it, what we see here is basically all the people who will come from the slums. The rest will come from the higher class families. Most of them have never fought a day in their life." Tim let out a relieved sigh. "Looks like I was thinking too much."

The time it took for the bus to fly from the lift to the academy was about three hours. The bus landed in front of the massive gates that led into the Valant City Royal Academy. Yi Tan disembarked and looked up at the large huge status that towered over the gates. They were depictions of the Norse god Thor. The intricate design and lighting bolts coming down from the heavens really brought out the overbearing qualities of lightning.

"The lines are long..." Tim frowned. There were at least a few hundred people here to check in and it was already late in the day.

"We can only wait. For now. It seems they are checking every emblem to make sure they are real." Yi Tan could see the guards at the gate stopping each person and looking at the emblems. Only after seeing this sight did Yi Tan start to become nervous. 'My father didn't get scammed and was given a fake emblem right?'

Luckily for Yi Tan and Tim the line was moving fairly quickly. Just before it got dark. It was Tim's turn to show his emblem. Tim seemed nervous as he handed the emblem in his hand over to the guard. The guard took it and gave it a quick once over before handing it back. "You may go."

Tim nodded to the guard taking his emblem back before turning around to Yi Tan: "I will wait for you on the inside."

"Yeah see you in a few minutes." Yi Tan answered as he took out his emblem and handed it to the guard.

The guard looked at the emblem for a few seconds before frowning slightly. He looked at Yi Tan and said: "Wait here." before turning and walking into the guard station to make a phone call. The guard was on the phone for a good five minutes before finally coming back out and nodding to Yi Tan, handing back the emblem. "Sorry about that. I had to check because this emblem is something that belongs to the Ji Family on the third level. So I had to check with them and they confirmed that they did give out an emblem not long ago. You may pass."

"Thanks. Sorry for the trouble." Yi Tan gave his thanks and took the emblem back. When the guard took the emblem and walked away he was worried that it was fake but luckily it was real. With the emblem in hand Yi Tan finally stepped across the threshold of the Valant City Royal Academy.
