Chapter 3 - Death

Heads severed...

Limbs torn...

Eyes eaten...

Blood pouring...

The horrific battle that took place in front of Aeron was none like he's seen before.

"Godfrey... what-what am I watching?" Aeron could barely get the question out.

"The war that changed everything. The fighters of God were defending the mortal realm from these vile demons.

The leader of The Arch Army was Samael, the Angel of light." As Godfrey spoke Aeron's attention was directed toward a specific Angel who stood out the most among his comrades.

The angel wore armour that was so bright that it wasn't nonsensical to believe it was made of light. He had broad shoulders, peak physique with blue eyes. His golden blonde hair was tainted by black blood of a demon he just killed with his mace.

Samael. The prowess and strength of this Angel of light was currently demonstrated through the speed and brutality he uses to kill the opposition.

The disturbing part was the grin he wore on his face as he mercilessly killed the demons, singlehandedly decapitated five demons with a wave of his hand. Always moved on to the next one...

Then the next...

Another one...

Eight more...

Samael didn't show any sign on stopping.

"Not yet! I'm not done yet!" Even Samael's voice was soothing to the ears, a massive contrast of his personality and actions.

"He was the greatest fighter in Heaven. Enjoyed fights a little too much which led to other Angels being fearful and wary of him." Godfrey continued his narration.

After several minutes of this horrific scene pass, the ground began vibrating and rumble. Aeron and Godfrey watched as a massive demon slowly marched on to the battlefield. It's height easily surpassed that of a skyscraper.

Black, ink-like skin; several beady red eyes scattered on it's large face; a metal, blood stained club the size of a large truck in it's right claw; large chains wrapped around it's enormous torso.

The colossal demon slowly marched in, stepping on Angels and even it's demonic comrades.

It let out a loud, intimidating roar as it swung the metal club at the mass group of Angel soldiers causing an absurd number of casualties on their side.

Aeron was sweating buckets, unable to look away from the building tall beast that took out the soldiers like they were nothing.

Samael on the other hand had an excited grin on his face when he saw the giant. Retrieving his mace from the brutalized face of a demon he just killed.

"Oh yeah, I'm gonna enjoy playing with you." He wiped black blood off his face.

He sprinted towards the giant at an unimaginable speed, taking out demons that got in his way. As he closed in on the left leg of the colossal demon he slowed down his momentum and leapt upwards at an amazing height.

Samael landed on one of the chains on the demon's chest and ran across it while laughing like a maniac.

The giant tried to slap Samael away as if he were an annoying fly.

Unfortunately for the giant demon this backfired greatly as Samael jumped towards the incoming claw. He raised his mace over his head and swung it downwards, impacting with the demon's wrist.

"Tch, you got thick skin. How annoying." Samael said in disappointment as he hoped to sever the hand completely.

He did however manage to break the bones within it's wrist causing it to roar in pain. The loud roar attracted the attention of a few demons that were capable of flight and they raced to it's aid.

Samael noticed this and proceeded to summon his wings. Three ash grey wings on both sides of his body escaped his back and brought him upwards into the sky.

"The more the merrier! I'll send all of you straight back to the pits of Hell!" he yelled as he charged at the first winged monstrosity that got near him.

He swung his mace at it's neck causing a messy and brutal decapitation. Before it's body could fall, Samael grabbed it with his free hand and launched it at another flying demon resulting in them both crashing down onto the blood soaked ground.

The colossal demon used the momentary distraction to attack Samael with it's club. He wasn't fast enough to dodge it and got launched several meters back and crashing onto ground. The scene was similar to a baseball bat smacking a ball. Samael's body impacting the ground left a cloud of dust and a crater beneath his wounded body.

"Fall back! Fall back!" an Angel soldier yelled at her remaining forces.

This female Angel had long, wavy black hair that reached her waist. The caramel coloured skin in her face was covered in the black blood of demons. Her beauty could have caused a lot of humans to view her as a goddess if she ever roamed earth.

"The Angels lost this battle and attempted to flee. Their commander, Sariel, knew that they had no chance in this fight." Godfrey's rough voice snapped Aeron out of his immersion in the gory battle.

The remaining Angels followed her order and tried to escape. They all brought out their wings and fled into the sky.

"No! What are y-you doing, Sariel?! It's not over yet!" Samael spat out as he struggled to stand back up after that last attack.

Several of his bones were broken and blood was flowing from his mouth.

Sariel turned her attention to the badly wounded Archangel with a cold, aloof look on her face. "Are you in such a hurry to die, Angel of Light? Look around you. We're greatly outnumbered and you're in no condition to fight.

I command you to fall back, brother!" Her aloof face showed a hint of anger and annoyance at having her order questioned.

"Tch, fine." Samael used two of his remaining wings to fly off since the other four were badly injured.

The Angels flew off into the sky while the demons either roared in celebration or consumed the flesh of the corpses laid before them.
