As Infinus and Volatile prepared themselves for the attack, Demon and the Servant combed through Hymo together. They watched how the city operated, the uneasiness of the workers.
Everyone aimed for perfection, but for their live's sake. Hitirus yearned for flawlessness, just as he believed he was shaped. In his mind, he was the perfect product.
Being every Variant at once, plus both genders at once, plus dozens of underlying Third Rules mixed into one disastrous creation made him think he was above all else. With only the Nine left over him.
"It appears he needs to be humbled," Demon commented. He turned to the Servant, trying to see if it would respond. "Would he be punished for so many broken rules?"
"Yes, he will be. But for now, he is a test subject. Just as you and your siblings are," the Servant replied. It pointed down at Demon with a straight finger. "You're breaking rules as well."
Demon scoffed, trying to lock onto Hitirus again before the Servant could continue speaking. A very, almost non-existent, small part of his mind thought the Servant knew about his antics.
"The Fourth Rule states everything dead should stay dead unless special conditions are meant. Such as a Third Rule host becoming supercharged and resisting death," the Servant explained.
"You're also breaking the Third Rule, you didn't earn these powers. Yet you still use them as your own. That and your body changes so dramatically, breaking the Second Rule," the Servant continued.
"I understand," Demon sighed. "Let's follow Hitirus around for a while longer."
Without much hesitation, the duo did so. They cleared rooftops silently and hid themselves away from everyone's vision, not letting a single eye catch a glimpse of them.
Boards groaned as they stepped onto them, they looked around for their target. Only to find another Variant standing over Hitirus.
They were squatting, keeping a sharp glare on him. Then they rose from their squat and pushed a nearby crate full of heavy metals and unwanted goods.
It cracked on contact, shattering and destroying Hitirus' skull. Shards of the cranium dug itself into Hitirus' brain, effectively killing him almost instantly.
"Hmm, Variants are building courage to fight for themselves," the Servant commented.
Demon opened his palm, getting ready to see if he knew anything about this specific one. That's when he did. His name was Excallar, a mercenary sent by Hitirus' creators to ensure he was following orders.
Also, the same Variant Niro allowed into the Legion without pledging loyalty. She was aware of how useful an expert at assassinations was, especially since they were dealing with Hitirus.
"It is something more interesting. I wonder if Hitirus and his home Legion get along? From the scraps of memory I can gather, they seem to have a complex relationship," Demon thought aloud.
The Servant slowly nodded, watching Excallar disappear from the area within a heartbeat. "Perhaps they are also aware of how dangerous he is. Also, you seem to possess a lot of knowledge."
Demon shrugged, slowly turning away from his ally. He didn't want to talk about his Distorted aspects, especially since he was dealing so closely to his strengths over the Nine.
An entire street's worth of people fled from the area. They screamed and hid from Hitirus as he came back to life, enraged by whoever did this.
He looked all around for a possible reason, only to find a Variant carelessly walk up to him and taunt him. Demon and the Servant raised an eyebrow, curious of what happens next.
That's when Hitirus grabbed them by their neck and flicked their entire body. Like a limp doll, the Variant's lifeless body reached the ground.
Right as Hitirus walked away and yelled for others to come and clean up the mess, the Variant came back to life. Unbeknownst to Hitirus, this was Befehlnadir, the one ordered to kill him.
"Symbiotic relationship, it seems. Excallar kills, the other one takes the blame. When Hitirus leaves, the other one comes back to life and flees," the Servant noted. "I wonder if that brute caught onto this?"
Demon watched Befehlnadir carelessly get back up and walked away, completely unbothered by the fact he was supposed to rest after dying. Envy clouded Demon's mind, he wanted to be that careless.
Each time he died, he hoped it was the last one. Or for something to break his chains from the Nine, a method of escaping his captivity.
"Are you afraid of something, Demon?" the Servant asked.
"No, I was just spacing out. There's a large building in the distance back the way we came from, I believe we might see what makes Yarno so different from Imbushko in there," Demon changed the topic.
The Servant pointed at the large, thin rods of metal workers were using to reinforce houses. Then at a distant shop where a Zegus gave a Thresher couple four shards of purified metal in exchange for fruits.
Both of things shared one thing in common: you wouldn't see this when strolling around Krugi or any other major city. They simply weren't relying on an economy, just on each other.
"I see plenty of things that make Yarnin Variants different from Imbushkin right out here," the Servant pointed out. "Or do you want to go there for another reason?"
Demon kept his eyes fixed on the perfectly chiseled columns in the distance, the architecture almost mirroring ancient Roman structures. It looked out of place for being on Koroth, especially Hymo.
"No," Demon shrugged off the suspicion. "That building looks out of place, and I want to investigate. I'm sure the Nine would approve if their loyal Servant also learned about what their creations made."
The Servant chuckled. "We already know about those types of structures, Demon. It was made by humans after we transferred similiar knowledge to their builders. Another Legion was first to shape something like this."
It walked closer to the ledge, pointing towards the building. "But it appears the Variants are gaining knowledge and discoveries made by beings that don't belong to us anymore."
"Why aren't they with us?" Demon asked out of curiosity.
"Because the Nine handed them off to Digatracus and Omniton-Ock. Both realities experiment on different renditions of the human universe and planet, so we hold no influence there," the Servant explained.
