Chapter 84 - A Burning Love

While Danitour and Risk fought, the couple flew towards the farm they claimed from the Light Legion. As the cold autumn wind blew past them, Decka shielded Quinn from the wind.

She was the whole reason behind his role as a defender. When they first met during their Age of Recruitment, Decka thought Quinn did really well against his team.

Despite losing the battle, Decka still wanted to see more of Quinn's ability as a combatant. He used to challenge her everyday, even when she rejected him.

Until the day she began accepting. They fought each other, and almost always ended their fights with a compliment and laughter.

Soon after, Decka brought Quinn to an armor-shop. He noticed she admired the Sentinel sets a lot, and even took off portions to look at them closer.

"Why do you keep looking at these so much?" Decka asked.

Quinn didn't take her eyes off the gauntlet she picked up. "These golds and whites are so beautiful. I can imagine myself wearing one during a defense or siege!"

"Why? This set covers everything, barely any breathing room. Not everyone would be able to admire your beauty, Quinn," Decka sighed.

He felt embarrassed after saying the last bit. They weren't in the position to flirt with one another yet, so saying something like that felt weird.

"That's exactly why I want it! So when I am not wearing my armor, only a few Variants could see how 'beautiful' you claim I am. Such as yourself!" Quinn cleverly replied.

Their interaction stuck with him through battles they fought together. Despite not being able to see each other very often when defending the Light Legion's territory.

When they did, they made the most of it.

They would make jokes with one another, eat meals together, and even play fight to pass the time. And during one of their play fight sessions would be what bonded them closer than they ever thought was possible.

An at the time Legion called the Breckus Legion attacked the city they were defending. Unfortunately for the duo, they were standing where the fight began.

During the siege, Decka tried his best to protect Quinn from all harm. He willingly threw himself at arrows, caught blows, and even cuts just to protect the girl he dreamed of.

Even through the fighting, Decka still wanted to shield Quinn. But he didn't realize she wanted to protect him as well.

Seeing her ally being mercilessly beaten and kicked around like a Stram made her awaken a rage she never had.

Flames from the explosions and arrows all came together to make an entity made of nothing but rage. It unleashed a roar that sounded like burning flames.

Then it began stomping its eight legs, trying to kill Breckus Warriors before they could get a chance to harm Decka again.

When a leg came hurling down towards Decka, he accepted his fate and allowed the creature to stomp on him. But when they made contact, he realized he was in the belly of the creature.

Quinn wrapped Decka in a comforting hug, making sure he was alright after all the injuries. Bewildered and afraid, Decka remained inside her hug.

It was the only thing he knew was real, and the only thing he wanted to be real. The tender love from her body calmed Decka down enough to hug her back.

During the entire conflict, the two held each other tight. Not wanting to let go of this moment. Until the creature disappeared, leaving the two on the ground.

When a Light Legion elite found them, they were still hugging. But the elite had to interrupt their moment.

"Decka and Quinn, you two are lucky to have survived whatever that thing was... unless one of you made that creature..?" the elite asked.

Quinn lifted her head and smirked. "Verick, sir, I created it. I unlocked my Third Rule to protect my lover!"

Hearing her response encouraged Decka to become stronger and more durable, so he could repay her for saving him.

A year after the attack, Decka invited Quinn over to his home. He wanted to show her something special.

When Quinn entered the house, Decka closed the door behind her and then turned to her. He rose a closed fist with something inside.

She looked at it, patiently waiting to see what was inside. Decka gently opened his hands, and a necklace dropped from inside. His middle finger caught the necklace to stop it from falling.

The necklace was silver all around. Except for a piece of scrap in the front. This piece of scrap was white and gold, like a piece of Light Legion armor.

"What is that?" Quinn gestured at the necklace.

"I went to go scrap my armor earlier today, and decided to keep a little portion of it with me. So I took it to the blacksmiths and they fixed this little thing for me. I want to thank you for saving me," Decka answered.

Quinn stepped away from the necklace. She brought her hands up to her mouth and covered it with her fingers. Her mouth instinctively blew air into her hands.

Decka recognized the gesture, it meant she was getting overwhelmed. So he continued, he wanted Quinn to feel all of his warm love.

He walked closer to Quinn, then placed the necklace around her neck. Quinn gently smiled as Decka put the necklace into place.

"And... there. It's fitting, a beautiful piece for a beautiful woman," Decka complimented her.

The dim light from the candle reflected off the silver and gold pieces. Both of them stared at it for a while before Decka wanted to show her something else.

He led Quinn through the dark halls of the mostly empty house, and into his bedroom. It was very well lit up. Candles and the fireplace cast their light on a crate in the middle of the room.

"What's inside?" Quinn asked.

Decka walked over to the crate and took out a heavily armored chest piece. This was part of a Sentinel armor set. Which was why it lacked personality.

It only had the Light Legion's iconic white and gold. No cloth or symbols anywhere, it was just blank. However, Quinn still looked shocked.

"What?" she muttered.

Decka gave her the chest piece, then returned to the crate. "When you saved me, I really wanted to pay you back. So, I got a Sentinel set so I could protect you more!"

Quinn giggled. Her innocence locked Decka in a slight trance.

But he had to break out of it. He reached into the crate and pulled out a large white and gold shield.

"This is what you'll be standing behind!" he joyfully announced.

Quinn clapped her hands at the shield. At the time, she didn't realize this shield wasn't a normal Sentinel shield. This shield was sharp around the edges, meant to cut.

The clapping died down, Quinn noticed how still Decka was standing. She watched as he placed down the shield and calmly walked up to her.

Decka hugged Quinn, then kissed her forehead. The odd warm feeling lingered on for a while longer. And so did Decka. He gently held her in his arms.

"Quinn..." he uttered.

She listened. They felt like time stopped while they were together.

"You make me very happy. And I... want to be in a relationship with you. To me, you're more than an ally. You're my love!"

Quinn jumped in excitement. Tears of joy formed inside her eyes, and her voice quivered in excitement.

"I'd love to be in a relationship with you!" she excitedly replied.

Decka held her tighter. It was like the time they were inside the beast's stomach. They held onto each other, not wanting to let go.

It also was like their flight to the farm. A current day Decka held a current day Quinn, shielding her from the cold winds while she quietly kept their body warmth in check using her Third Rule.

As they descended from the skies, Quinn increased their warmth even more. She tried to make it seem like her partner was the one warming them up.

But she allowed Decka to continue his grip around her, because it made him feel happy and accomplished if he successfully kept her warm during their flight.

Their Sky Beast landed on the busy farm. Dust clouds kicked up as the beast landed its talons on the ground.

The duo was now in their new home. Where they would watch over their new Legion and raise their child, away from Kas' disrespectful teaching methods.
