Chapter 81 - Distant Ally

During the sieges against the Light Legion's territories, Danitour and Ether had their share of arguments. With no one to keep them away from each other, some arguments became physical.

When he saw a new pack of Ferals touch down on Krugi, he felt insulted. Despite his fights with Ether, Jakery was still in neutral terms with him.

But now with more Ferals in the Legion, Danitour became more aware of how involved the Infinus Legion wanted to get with all sorts of forces just to strike down one Legion.

On the same night Ether met with his new elites, Danitour paid him a visit to discuss the future of the Legion.

Four aggressive knocks echoed through the slumbering house, catching the attention of anyone who was inside. Including who he wanted to talk to.

Ether gently opened the door to see who it was. Then he saw Danitour's outline standing outside, waiting for him to open the door.

"It's you... again. What do you want now?" Ether asked with a clear hint of drowsiness in his voice.

"I'm here because I want to talk about the future of this Legion," Danitour replied.

Ether welcomed Danitour inside, hoping this would be the first time since their first fight that he wouldn't be aggressive towards him.

The door creaked together behind Danitour. They thought they were going to have a private conversation with the door closed, but they were unaware of the third listener.

Demon saw Danitour enter the home, and he was interested in what was going to happen. So he prepared to pull his host's memories into his own mind to follow along.

"So, what's on your mind?" Ether asked.

Danitour took off a blue coat made from Eteni wool and neatly placed it on a chair.

"I have a question for you. As a leader, do you feel compelled to bring the best for your people?" he sharply asked.

"I won't take a risk that involves the lives of anyone other than my own. These people are mine as much as they are yours," Ether truthfully replied.

Danitour narrowed his golden eyes. "Then tell me, why do you bring warriors into a personal issue with the leaders of another Legion?"

"Don't start talking to me like I'm in the wrong here," Ether replied. "When you joined the Legion, I made my plan clear. And you did absolutely fucking nothing to stop me, why are you acting like this now?"

"You are in the wrong!" Danitour enforced his opinion. "Koroth is full of Primes willing to rip your throat out in the name of survival, that's called nature."

Danitour grabbed onto the chair that his coat hung from, and aggressively pushed it forward. Sending the chair crashing down on the cold wooden floor underneath.

"What isn't called nature is starting a war just because you want revenge!" Danitour added.

Ether watched as the chair fell forward. The sound of it colliding against the floor rung inside his ears for a few moments. It felt distant yet near, something that didn't actually happen.

"Listen. I've lost so much ever since the Sunset. My brother died, I realized the truth about my parents, and nearly lost Jakery," Ether responded.

This time his voice wasn't strong, it was more desperate. It was as if he was trying his best not to cry at the memory of those dark times.

"Each time something like this happens, I think back at the times we were in that Legion. We were safe, we thought we were going to fight for them. We thought we were going to make it," Ether continued.

"But now look at us - look at me. Danitour, I hate what this has all become. But there is no way out. We need to struggle through this together, we don't have to cause panic amongst ourselves just because you don't agree with my methods."

Danitour scoffed. "Stop weeping masquerades. I have seen stuff you never seen. Have you ever seen a Feral eat a Yonie while he tried begging for his Yomie? HAVE YOU?!?"

"No. But I nearly have been killed by one. Remember how we first met?" Ether calmly replied.

His voice became a sudden soothing tune. Something Danitour was not expecting from him.

"Imagine how I feel. Ferals prey on Yonies because they are easy food. But they also have rules in place. When food isn't on the table, one is ready to do anything just to eat crumbs. When there is food on the table, one just eats, regardless of the ones who don't," Ether added.

Danitour could feel his stomach turn in disgust. He was aware of Ether's Yonie side, but something felt off about Ether.

Yonies are the most affectionate of all Variants, if another Yonie died they would feel horrible for their Yomie. Unlike Ether. He didn't feel anything for the Yonie and the Yomie.

"Bite your tongue. You're only a Zegus who troubles himself with something so simple to fix. Grow up and realize you're not the only one with feelings in this hell-scape," Danitour sharply responded.

Something strange happened inside Ether's mind, it was as if something was triggered. It felt like a sudden rage he only felt during combat.

"E - excuse me? Are you saying you believe I am doing this to seem like a victim?" Ether asked in disbelief.

Danitour nodded and waited for Ether to continue.

"I created this Legion from the ground up. Defended during the siege against our allies, getting new tames and forces, ensuring armor and weapons are the best they can be for our people..." Ether paused.

He took a deep breath before continuing; he knew what he was about to say next could start a physical altercation.

"If it wasn't for me, your lazy ass would have been watching as your men prepared so much just to combat a few starving Ferals. I lead the small and mighty, you're nothing more than big and blind!"

Danitour snapped, he didn't take Ether's response kindly. He formed a fist and got closer to Ether, then he struck.

The fist landed on his left cheek, causing him to stumble backwards. He was not going to let Danitour disrespect him like that.

Ether quickly recovered and charged forward. His force caused Danitour to fall backwards, making a loud thump as he made contact with the frigid wood floor.

His heart began beating like crazy, and his emotions ran wild like a frightened Abako horde. Tears poured from out his eyes, each one reflected how deep the wound was.

But his actions weren't of sadness, he was enraged. He wanted to reach for the old Danitour, the one that helped him prepare for the sieges.

Ether planted both of his knees on both of Danitour's shoulders, pinning the Zegus down. His hands balled up into fists, and began swinging at his face.

"YOU FILTHY ZEGUS! YOU ARE WORTHLESS, YOU FUCKING MISTAKE!" Ether screamed.

His voice echoed through the home, through the street, through Krugi. Valentine, Quill, Jakery, and Demon all heard the screaming.

Jakery rushed into the room to watch Ether mercilessly beat Danitour. The dwindling embers of the fire from earlier made the scene look like a nightmare.

"WAIT! ETHER WHAT IS HAPPENING?" Jakery tried to ask his brother.

But Ether didn't respond. He was too focused on what he was doing to answer anything. Jakery jumped up to push him off Danitour, but he couldn't compete with Ether's grip.

Quill forced the door open, then allowed Valentine and Demon to walk inside. They rushed to force Ether off the badly beaten Danitour.

"LISTEN TO ME, YOU IDIOT! I PROMISE I AM GOING TO KILL YOU! I AM GOING TO KILL YOU!" Ether's screams amplified.

He stopped fighting Valentine and Demon's strength, he wasn't going to be able to continue beating Danitour. So he crumbled into Demon's arms.

The Distorted caught him in his arms. He didn't know what to do next, but he tried to comfort the obviously ruined Ether.

Quill helped pick up Danitour, who had a bleeding mess for a face. The Zegus kept his eyes on the weeping Ether across from him.

It was the nastiest fight he and Ether ever gotten in. He never thought he could trigger Ether's enraged side so easily, while also breaking him.

But he was going to keep this in mind for the future, just in case he really wanted it.
