"Hi" the Young girl said.
Immediately Kurtis rushed back to his bed and burrowed under his covers with his body in a foetal position while shaking slightly in fear. Over the years he had come to realise that anyone who came up that ladder who wasn't Viera was bad and on instinct he would assume the position he was currently in hoping that whoever it was would leave him be after seeing how pitiful he looked.
However this rarely worked and today was no exception.
The Young girl immediately gagged upon entering the attic and having her nose assaulted by the horrific smell.
*cough* *cough* "wh-what is that smell" she said in a nasal voice. Her hand pinching her nose shut she scanned the room and noticed the bucket of faeces in the corner, her eyes widened and her face turned green in disgust.
"Is -is that what I think it is?"
She was appalled. She never knew living conditions could get this bad. However she didn't let this deter her and proceeded to turn her head towards the shaking mass underneath the grimy covers on the old sofa.
"He-hello?"
No reply
"Hello?"
"..."
"Hellooooo?" She said in a now agitated tone.
Still no reply.
"Look if you don't want me here then just say so and I'll leave."
Still there was silence in the room and only the snivelling of the shaking mound on the sofa could be heard.
In truth, Kurtis wanted more than anything to tell the girl to leave but found himself too wrapped up in fear to say a word and could only hope that she would get the message.
The girl however took the silence as permission to stay and wearily approached the sofa with her hand firmly over her nose.
Once she was in front of the makeshift bed she paused and looked quizzically down at the quivering mound as if she expected the person in front of her to emerge and start a conversation.
A few seconds of awkward silence passed by until she quickly realised that no such thing was going to happen. She grew impatient and seized the worn out blanket and yanked it off the couch.
As if he expected it, Kurtis wasted no time jumping up and scurrying out of sight behind the couch.
The girl rolled her eyes and thought to herself 'this isn't going to be easy'
She creeped slowly round the side of the sofa and ponced upon the figure crouching behind.
The figure began to squirm relentlessly and cry out as if in pain and it quickly escalated into a mini wrestling match of strength with a clear dominator until eventually the figure stopped moving and began to breath erratically as if he had just run multiple marathons all while his eyes wondered crazily around the room never focusing on one thing for more then a second with his hands and legs pinned down by the Young girl.
It took all the girls willpower to not release him and cover her nose as an influx of horrific smells berated it. She finally got a Good look at her new 'friend' and was horrified by what she saw.
With its messy and straggly Black hair, malnourished and skinny frame wherein bones could be seen clearly, pale and dirt ridden skin, sunken eye sockets and yellow teeth that seemed seconds away from rotting as well as dead, pitch black eyes, what lay before her she imagined could only be described as a living corpse.
"wh- what happened to you?" She couldn't help but say out loud.
However her words were unheard as the corpse before her once again began to squirm, this time she had no intention of struggling with this person and swiftly slapped him across the face to calm him down.
Surprisingly this approach seemed to work as he abruptly stopped and raised a small bony hand to the place the slap landed.
It wasn't a hard slap but Kurtis' eyes began to water as he gave up fighting back and his body slumped. Having given up he finally focused on his new torturer.
She was a Young girl around his current physical age with shockingly blonde and royal blue hair styled in twin pony tails and eyebrows the same colour as the former. Her eyes were seem to disagree with her hair as they were a stunning sea green colour, she had milky White skin and a healthy amount of fat on her considering she was a toddler as well as small dimples around her mouth that would no doubt couple with her stunning White teeth to result in a charming smile.
She was not smiling though, instead, when she realised he had calmed down she slowly released him and sat at his feet and wasted no time waving her small hands furiously around her nose in a fruitless attempt to ward off the smell.
Kurtis slowly sat up and backed up until his back hit the far wall and sat with his knees up against his face all while watching the newcomer carefully.
They both sat there in silence for a few long minutes until the girl grew tired of the silence.
She seemed to think something over before taking in a deep breath which she almost immediately regretted as she began to cough repeatedly over and over again until it ceased and she looked at him.
Once again opening her mouth she looked him right in the eye and said.
"Hi, my names Kayla. What's yours?"
Of course Kurtis didn't reply, instead he continued to watch her. He couldn't help but think that something about her seemed familiar.
Of course Kayla guessed this would happen but refused to let him remain silent and continued to pester him.
"what's your name? What's your name? How are you? Can you even speak? You Good? Can you speak?"
This continued on for a very long time until eventually Kurtis could no longer stand it. He backed further away towards the boxes and hid behind them before saying in an incredibly meek and quiet voice "I..... I don't ....have.... a name"
"what?"
"I... Don't have ....a name"
"No I heard you but how can you not have a name?"
"..."
"I guess that's why you have plain black hair" the girl said.
"...."
"your a hard person to talk to"
"...."
"I guess you want to know why I'm here and what I want"
"...."
"Well I guess I should tell you. I'm your sister Kayla Carnelian"
