Are you looking for a story of Action and Adventure? Drama and World Domination? Dungeons and Dragons? Well, you came to the wrong place… This is a story about how I became the best volleyball player in the World! I am Yūto Asuka and I am a 16 year old Wing Spiker from Sendai, Japan, but when I was 6 my mother moved me from my hometown to her hometown of Daeju, South Korea and ever since I've been considered an outcast.
I was always shunned by other kid's parents for being foreign and I was made fun of by other kids for looking different. Most people would've broken down and accepted that they'd never have friends, but not me! I kept trying, even if they made it clear that they found me weird, I made it clear that looking weird isn't a bad thing.
This confidence would come in handy during sporting events, since I was never shy or nervous, I'd be able to do things the other kids couldn't. For instance I'd be able to take big shots when we attended basketball games, score goals when we desperately needed them in soccer/football games, and hit home runs like it was nothing when playing baseball. However I was never satisfied, my athleticism was too much when it came to these sports, and it got to the point where I just got bored.
That'd all change when I found out about Volleyball. At first I thought it was boring and for girls, but after my first ever spike, and my second spike, and my third, and my forth, and my fifth… I would discover my life purpose. To become the best Volleyball player ever.
I would begin training, day in and day out, I would join school clubs, travel clubs, side clubs, and more, just so I can feel the feeling of a volleyball smacking against my hand. Due to my natural athleticism I got stuck with with position I would stick with throughout my entire career, the Wing Spiker, to be more specific, an opposite hitter. Despite my athleticism and everything I had previously said about being confident and being bored because I was too good at everything, I had sucked at volleyball. Which made it exciting… Something I was finally bad at, something new, a challenge, which is something everyone needs when they are getting bored in life.
What was I bad at? Well timing, Hand Eye Coordination, Serving, Blocking, Pretty much everything that had to do with timing or brain activity. I wouldn't let this bring me down though, I would start training my brain in order to understand it better. I had gone from a bench warmer to part of the rotation, to a regular, and once I was in my 3rd Year of Junior High, I would have become the Ace for Hanuel Junior High, and the top Ranked Ace in the Daeju Prefecture.
Once I got to High School I had, of course, applied to be a part of the Volleyball Club, and I would show out during tryouts, and I had met 2 other first years… Hyun Hye, a Setter from Taepoong Junior High, and Ryujin Byeong-Ho, a Libero from Sinsok Junior High School. Hyun was someone that people would consider a "Strategic Setter", where he picks the best plays for his teammates, however he wasn't that athletic, and it was uncommon to see him smile. Ryujin, was the opposite, he was fast and agile, and also seemed like he could get any ball before it hits the floor, however he is very obnoxious and all over the place. He could run across Seoul 75 times and still be energetic after. However, they both had a dark and intimidating aura around them. Hyun was very demon like, very dark and mysterious. Ryujin had the aura of a Dragon, Loud and Intimidating. Almost like he's always saying "I'm here, and I'm above you."
Their differences would consume the teams chemistry, making it difficult to play while they both were on the same court, as they kept trying to outdo eachother. It took a certain someone to finally devour them both… That person was me.
