The party was awesome. I had zero trouble mingling since most of the kids there went to my school. I wondered if it was some kind of connection to my school.
Someone tapped my back. I turned around in curiosity.
"Oh, Shirley..." I said. I was kind of shy. It's not because I was having a crush on her... I was not... The thing is, I always feel uneasy around girls.
"I had no idea I'd be seeing you around." She said. "I'm glad you came."
"Hey guys." Someone called before I could say any other thing. When I turned around, I found Chelsea with Sophie. Honestly, my heart flopped when I saw both of them. I was always a little startled and uneasy by their presence.
"Leo, you came?" Sophie said. I nodded shyly. "And you look ten times hotter tonight."
My head was about to burst into flames. "Er... Thanks... You...are... not ... bad... yourself."
She smiled. I knew my uneasiness was kind of noticeable. Luckily, my phone rang giving me an opportunity to excuse myself.
"Excuse me..." I said and walked to the pool. I picked up. "Mom..."
"Leo..." I could hear the tears in her voice. "Why are you two doing this to me?"
"We're fine Mom." I said. "We'll be coming back soon. We only want you to have fun with Dennis for sometime without any intrusion."
"Leo..."
"Bye Mom." I cut in and hung up. I sighed.
"Are you alright?" The speaker placed her hand on my shoulder.
"Shirley..." I said and smiled. "I'm good. Thanks for asking."
"I can tell that you are not alright, Leo." She said. "You can tell me anything. Your secret is saf""e with me."
Her face held a lot of promise and confidence. I immediately felt I could tell her everything.
I sighed. "Here it goes..."
I told her everything. She listened to me much to my surprise.
"Amber and I left the house when we got tired and irritated with their crazy ways of making out in our presence." I said.
She sighed. "I understand how you feel, Leo." She said. "But you shouldn't have done that. For the sake of your mother, at least."
I looked at her.
"I lost my parents to a car crash during my Freshman year." She said. "Ever since, I have been staying with Ava and her family. Things are not all that smooth there. Ava thinks I am there to share the love she got since she is the last child and only girl. So she's making life unbearable for me."
As she talked, I couldn't help but feel pity for her. True, I was not living the best life, but I still have the chance to see my parents. Alive.
"The point is... All of these is not breaking me and it's not going to." She said. "So, you should let what is happening make your mom look like an enemy."
I was glad I told her because she made me realize a lot.
"Get the burden off your shoulders and party, buddy." She said and stood.stood
"Thanks." I said.
"Anytime." She said with a smile. "Come on, let's go party." I smiled and followed her.
The party was splitted. While the adults had their boring speech party, all teenagers had their fun party in the garden.
I can dance very well but one thing I hated most was show off. I sat and watched Asher do his moves. Not to brag but I thought his moves were lame. His moves were so incomparable to anything I can do.
"Asher! Asher!Asher!" Everyone sang.
He finally stopped dancing. "Thank you! I'm awesome, I know." He said.
I looked away in disgust.
"I don't think there's anyone good enough to challenge me." His eyes found mine. "Patel?"
"Me?" I said. "No! No! No!"
"Leo! Leo! Leo!" Everyone cheered.
"Looks like the crowd just decided." He said.
I stood slowly.
The music started. It was an unfamiliar rap song. I started slowly.
"Asher! Asher! Asher!" The crowed shouted.
Then I heated up. I noticed the disbelief in Asher's eyes but I continued anyways.
"Leo! Leo! Leo!" Everyone cheered when the dance battle was finally over.
I took my jacket and walked back to my seat.
"OMG! Leo you did great." Shirley said and handed me a small towel.
"I agree." Sophie said.
"Leo Patel, is there anything you cannot do?" Chelsea asked.
I laughed nervously.
"You're smart, you play basketball so well and you can dance." She said. "You're any girl's dream guy."
I looked at her.
