Passing by Krista and Alvin now everything seemed to slow down. I stared Krista in the eyes as we passed each other. She seemed distant as she stared into mine. My sights shifted to Alvin who was glaring at me with unhidden fury. As we passed each other everything returned to normal and they were gone. Turning my gaze forward I noticed my two best friends Cara and Damien. Cara was shorter than me with long auburn hair and a smooth face and a curvy body. What she lost in height she made up for with a rocking body which was thick in all the right places. Damien was the tallest of us all. He had dyed his hair orange and was a bit muscular too. He had a square jaw and intimidating green eyes similar to Cara's rare orange eyes. We were a small group but we had each other's backs no matter the situation. "How've you been Kai",Cara smiled at me. I smiled back, " I'm good. What about you?", I replied cheerily.
Cara smiled again. I took that as a yes. I fist bumped Damien. The both of them were in the guardian course like me,though Cara was thinking of switching to the tactical operation course like Ari. "You guys hear about the massacre at lukken?", Damien asked. I nodded.I was the only student in the school who had an active Hunter license so I went in actual missions. I was often asked in class to explain some mission types and how to get around them. "I was there last night tracking down a rogue reanimated who raped it's master and tried to escape", I said " We passed by lukken and I felt this seriously sinister aura near there too. Next thing I knew I was face to face with this weird guy who was seriously strong and damn fast. He tried to take me out but I managed to escape. Barely".
Cara gasped just like Ari did. Damien bulked and stood blank face. I rubbed the back of my head smiling sheepishly.
They all looked kind of frozen for a moment and it was kinda embarrassing."Well I'm still alive at least so you don't have to be so worried", I added reassuringly.Ari hugged me tightly at that statement. I put my around her and squeezed her a bit.
Cara shook her head." Well you're still her so it's not that bad. Did he wound you though?", She asked.
" Well he got me pretty good when I crossed my arms across my chest. If it weren't for the enhancement magic I used I could've died. Didn't seem like he wanted me dead though or he would've finished the job", I said, thinking about it. " Did you get a look at his face?", Damien asked curiously
I thought hard. " I managed to see his eyes. He was wearing a nose mask.He had green eyes but they seemed dead.He was pretty pale too", I replied, rubbing my chin in thought. Damien did same humming in thought. " Do you think he could've been some high level reanimated?", Damien added.
" Well he was pretty damn pale but even if he was a high level reanimated he would've done the wise thing and finished me off in the river", I explained. Damien agreed.
" Could you please not talk like that Kai please?", Ari asked her voice low. I ruffled her hair. " Sorry Ari. I know this makes you uncomfortable but we need to try and figure something out. We need to see if we can find a motive", Damien said. Ari sighed and nodded. Cara walker over to her and put a comforting arm around her. Just then the bell rang for lessons to begin. I checked my watch and sure enough it was 8:30 am.
I had combat class so after a final round of questions we split up to head on to our classes.
I went to the locker room where most of the guys were already dressing up. Sitting down on the bench I started to unlace my shoes when I noticed a pair of red shoes walk up to me. I looked up to see a brown haired boy looking down on me grinning.I raised an eyebrow confused. " Uh can I help you dude?", I asked. "Oh it's nothing really.I just wanted to see the unlucky schmuck going up against me", The boy said smirking.
I frowned at him. "Excuse me?"
"You heard me. I'm pretty sure you're aware that today is sparring.Mr Evans didn't show up and some hot chick replaced him and said we'd be doing sparring instead and unfortunately for you, you're going to be my punching bag",He said haughtily.
I stood up to look him straight in the face. Clearly this guy didn't know who I was. Every one in the school knew who I was and on most days people tried not to pick fights with me. But here this dude was asking for it.
" Back off Zack. Don't forget we're here for an interschool training session", someone said.Well that made sense. This dude doesn't even come to my school so there was no way he knew who I was unless be found out some other way.
A blonde haired boy came up behind him and put a firm hand on his shoulder. Zack shrugged and looking me in the eyes with the same cockiness and left. The blonde haired boy sighted. " Sorry about Zack's behavior. He's always had a habit of looking down on people since he's one of the strongest students in our school and in a lot of the schools around including here.Or so he thinks. This is our first time coming around",The boy explained.
" No prob. Because I'm the strongest one here", I replied cooly.The boy raised an eyebrow.
" My names luke Armenia.Hope you're right about being the strongest because Zack has put a lot of his sparring opponents in hospitals for the fun of it. Becareful cause he also plays dirty", Luke said cautiously.
I nodded. So he liked to play dirty. People who were strong but just big jerks were bad enough but when they decided to play dirty too it was just down right sad.I wasn't in a serious mood but this pricks attitude had pissed me off. He was the one who had to be sorry because with my augmentations I was physically stronger than him and faster too. And off somewhere in the fight I decided to use enhancement magic I could probably send him to the hospital or if I wasn't careful the morgue. I'm not joking. A fully enhanced blow from me could send the average reanimated flying several metres as well as stun them. How less a human dumb ass who thought he was the strongest around. This dude was downright cocky.
But what really surprised me was that a woman had replaced Mr Evans for the day. Mr Evans was a retired Hunter and best of his time to before my dad. I didn't think anything could put him down.well this was going to be interesting.
But something about this situation seemed off. I mean I get that anything could happen but Mr Evans was a rare case. This just felt really wrong. It would probably be better to check this woman out and see what was really going on. I couldn't wait to kick Zack's ass as well. The look on his face when he realized he was in way over his head was going to be almost comical. I decided to do a little back ground check on this inter school training program. Apparently it was it was just in preparation of the upcoming Hunter examination. It was a week long event in which various tournaments took place to determine the strength ams speed as well as adaptability and intelligence in different situations against both human and supernatural enemies. It was an extremely dangerous examination and had a few hundred deaths a year. Students knew the risks and invigilators made sure to step in as soon as possible.
I wondered if this new lady had something to do with Mr Evans absence.
Too many questions.
And not enough answers to them. I was just gonna have to find the answers to these questions and probably it was more likely I wasn't going to like the answers to these questions.
Then again not everything on this damn planet was meant to be pleasant.
Besides if everything was nice and pleasant the world wouldn't be as fun as it is.
