Chapter 1 - Prologue

2057, November 4

People had gathered in times square, New York. The angry crowd of unemployed youth were furious at the government. Jobs ranging from a doctor, cop, driver, navy, soldier had all been hijacked by artificial intelligence. This revolution in biotech and infotech had created a new class of useless people.

Jason Chung, a short, pudgy Asian- American, stood amidst the gigantic crowd raising his banner, "Give us jobs and, we will give votes," He had completed his computer science degree a few years ago, yet it turned out the field no longer remained relevant. With advancements in robotics, biotech and infotech, new fields were being created every few years, making the previous one's irrelevant.

Jason knew his efforts were most likely useless, but it was better worth a try. The evening sky was growing colder like the spirit of the crowd. From a distance, a dozen of robot cops could be seen marching towards the transient crowd. He feared which code they were following. The machines moved to create a 'buzz' sound. They moved turning their short hemispherical steel face, relying on their multi-sensors to access the situation. Their algorithms could analyse them with their sensors, determine their personality type and changing moods, and use the best possible code to control the protest.

The crowd panicked, while the media houses cried in joy at the drama which had befallen.

"Save the workers, Save the nation," such chants spread amongst the crowd. The Robots threatened the protesters and even forcibly threw some to the ground. It was complete chaos.

"Please, cooperate, you are disrupting the peace of the area," sang the robots at the helpless crowd. Some were being handcuffed.

Jason knew it was foolish to stay in the area. He ran out of the crowd, saddened that life won't be easy. He tapped the small chip attached to his body and called for uber. Few minutes, the driverless car arrived in the valley nearby. As he sat inside, the sensors sensed its presence, matching it with his uber profile, as the automated engine started.

Jason once more tapped the chip and called for a song. The algorithm analysed his psychology and his present mood. The complex system calculated the emotional impact a particular song will have on him. Thus it played 'road mappers', a song about struggle. As he relaxed to the song, his unemployment and college debt worries disappeared as the song fuelled his strength and the desire to change the world.

"I will change the world," he said to himself. As he was lost in his daydream, he was woken by a sudden blast on the car. The vehicle blew open. He fell at a distance, panting, his half body burnt. He looked around him, the car was burnt and destroyed in pieces. The screams of people could be heard coming from the times square. Jason's mind failed to analyse the situation. Fire shots and screams of the crowd ran simultaneously.

As he was about to collect himself, a robot marched near him. He tried to run but his half body had died. He prayed for some kind of miracle, but the ruthless robot passed multiple sensors at him and sang, "danger."

"danger," as it blew his brains out. Particles of his head flew at all corners, even the robot got some blood on it.

There was bloodshed all over the locality. Cries of the protestors went unheard as the robotic cops assassinated them. Humanity had just witnessed another horrific event.
