---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jani and Dana have been in a relationship for a month which they believe is a commitment. They still live under one roof. They live a happy life. Every day Jani would wake up early to prepare breakfast. In the afternoon she would wait for Dana to come home from work. If he got overtime, Jani will be happy to bring dinner for Dana to the green trees. Yes, indeed all of Dana's employees know Jani. Because she had visited Dana several times just to deliver the food she made. Dana was of course happy. His life is back when someone is caring and gives attention at him. However, Jani thought. She doesn't want to have a "single roof without legal tie-in" relationship. Whatever people call it, yes… Jani felt it. Many people began to pay attention to her behavior on Dana or even gossiped by cafe employees because she lived in the same house with someone who was not her husband.
(In Indonesia, there's an unwriten law that it's not normal when an unmarried couple live in the same roof. In some places officers and people nearby will come at the couple who do it.)
Dana came home at 06.30 pm, just as Jani was getting ready to go shopping at the supermarket. "Where are you going?" Dana asked when she saw Jani ready with her bag.
"Want to go shopping at the supermarket downstairs, I've already cooked dinner. If you're hungry, just eat right away," Jani replied.
"Should I acompany you?" Dana volunteered.
"No, I can go alone. It's not good for people to see us living together here," Jani tried to reassure Dana.
"Not good? Who are you not comfortable with? We live in the city and this is my apartment. I am free to bring anyone here," replied Dana with a little tension when he heard Jani's statement.
"It's not like that, I just feel… well you know I've never lived with the opposite sex like this, I'm just… scared and uncomfortable," Jani explained, continuing to look into Dana's eyes.
Dana blinked once. His body was stiff. He had even tried to dive into Jani's eyes. But no lies there. Jani did look uncomfortable and her eyes flashed worry about something. This concern had spread to Dana, but in a different way. Dana began to think about many possibilities that might rob his happiness. God, not anymore.
In the supermarket…
The man saw the woman he missed so much. He walked over and stopped at the soap shelf. The woman didn't seem to realize that beside her there was someone who was crazy about her. Rangga continued to pay attention to Jani, until his forehead wrinkled when he saw Jani take the men's soap and put it in the shopping basket.
"Ah, maybe for her father or brother," Rangga thought.
Rangga followed Jani from behind. Slowly he walked closer and closed Jani's eyes with her hands.
"Who is this, anyway?" Jani asked annoyed because she was shocked. Rangga Still silent and smiled. "Is this you, Darl?" again Jani guessed with a smile. "I know I miss you but don't come here if you want to ask for a hug from me," Jani was still talking.
Rangga's hands slowly slipped from Jani's eyes. His heart was like being thrown by a block of ice. Just like this alone made his heart empty.
"It's me, Jan," her body was still stiff.
"Rangga?! how come you are here?" Jani glared because she felt even more shocked now.
It was unthinkable for Jani to meet Rangga at the supermarket. She should have realized that the possibility of meeting people she knew was possible. What if Rangga asks about matters relating to him and the apartment?
"This is a supermarket, I want to buy something here."
Rangga smiled warmly. He really misses Jani. A simple girl who looks so stunning in his eyes, even though they have been separated for a long time. No. Not Jani. But he chose to leave the girl in front of him.
"Hahaha yes, how come I'm stupid, this is a supermarket hehehe," Jani laughed discord. His heart was already racing, afraid that Rangga would suspect him.
Don't know what made Rangga invite Jani to the cafe in front of the apartment after meeting that girl at the store. He was just missing Jani.
"Who's apartment are you in, Ga?" Jani asked curiously.
Stupid! Why ask for an apartment that allows Rangga to ask him about apartment-related things. But Jani had already asked and one thing was Jani's concern. She is not good at lying.
"My apartment, Jan."
Rangga answered lightly then grabbed his glass of iced coffee. Take a few sips then focus back on the girl he really wanted to hug again.
"You moved here?"
"Yeah."
"Since when?"
"Just last night anyway."
"Oh, I see."
Jani was confused by Rangga's attitude. Jani felt intimidated by Rangga's sharp gaze. Especially with such a random answer. It made Jani even more nervous.
"You live here?" Rangga's question makes it difficult for Jani to act normal.
"Eng.. not really, Ga."
Fail. Jani stuttered with a simple question from Rangga.
"I've been walking around wanting to take a look at the apartment here, maybe tomorrow there will be sustenance, after this I was going home, I just stopped at the store for a while."
Rangga noticed Jani's attitude, which slightly scratched the corner of her right head. Jani answered without being able to see Rangga's eyes.
Rangga knows Jani is lying. He still remembers Jani's habit of lying. Jani is honest people. It's not like Rangga, a pathological liar. It is proven by his success in cheating while he was with Jani.
"I got you," Rangga said in his mind, grinning.
"What are you busy with, Jan? You rarely reply to my chats, you rarely pick up my call. Once you reply, you did without any concern. Once you pick up the phone, you quickly hang up, I don't know what your reason is," Rangga protested.
"I'm busy at work, so sorry. After all, why is your chat so concerned about me, anyway? Your girl's gonna be so upset."
"It's not funny, you know I don't have a girl. I'm serious."
"Pfft..Don't joke around, Ga. I said it so so so serious," Jani wanted to end her brief with Rangga immediately.
She was already getting annoyed with Rangga's attitude who suddenly asked ridiculous things.
"It's up to you, you don't sleep here, do you? I'll drive you back," Rangga walked first and then paid to the cashier.
Jani was shocked. "I'm dead," she thought.
Jani cursed herself for being this stupid.
Arriving at her house, Jani immediately informed Dana that she was not coming home. She didn't want to make Dana worry. Tomorrow is saturday and Jani is luckily off work. So, she made it as an excuse that she wants to visit her father. It hasn't been that long, but Jani has dared to lie to Dana. Really, Jani felt guilty about lying to a man as good as Dana. But what can she do? It's better than get caught living in the same roof with a man who is not her husband? It is true, A wise man says that one lie creates another lies. And Jani is doing it now.
"I'm so sorry ." Jani sighed wearily.
Jani then lay down her body that was very tired on her favorite bed. She miss the bed, it's been long time since the last time she sleeps in her bed. She pulled the blanket up to her chest and tried to close her eyes. She hopes Dana doesn't figure it out about the lie she made. Yes, Hopefully so.
