Chapter 44 - Lucky Break

Although the way of victory probably wasn't noteworthy at all to others I felt great. The another goal has been achieved. I felt invigorated knowing that I was moving up. Sitting down I eagerly watched the remaining matches of the round. The energy from my battle must still be rushing around my body.

The very next round after me started with another two males disciples going up on stage. It seems they knew each other as they greeted each other by name before asking for their respective weapons. The moment it started they both rushed at each other activating their weapon Qi as well. A blue sword against a red spear clashed lunching several hits against each other in rapid succession.

Many of their hits were deflected by one another as they continued slashing and stabbing at each other. After a quite some time of of their back and forth they both leaped away from one another at the same time gazing at each other from their short distances away. It seems they were starting to get serious as they were beginning to use their elemental moves. Waves of water sailed through the air as flaming thrusts from a spear collided with them.

Steam is produced from the collision of the opposing elements making a smoke screen between the two. The spearman raises his spear and his spear head becomes engulfed in flames before he plunges it down through the steam wall. I knew before the spear was even engulfed the swordsman had already gone around for the flank. As the spear parted the wall of steam he hit the ground.

A slight gleam came from another part of the smoke and a sword came through onto the spearman. Unprepared he was hit, staggering a little, before quickly turning over to where he was attacked from. Shortly afterward a few more water blades came out from behind the steam wall towards the spear man.

As he was distracted the swordsman came from another angle before stabbing forth. Unfortunately for him the spearman seemed to of expected it. He quickly got rid of the remaining water blades before turning around to hit the man behind him. The side of the spearhead was used to hit the swordsman directly in his stomach.

The hit from his spear caused the man to briefly change his shape into a C before he hit the ground. He wasn't finished either trying to get up off the ground, or at least he wasn't going to give up until he felt a spear appear at his neck.

The fight that just took place felt at least ten times more entertaining then my fight in my opinion. It seemed to have higher stakes as elemental Qi was used and the ending didn't happen as the opponent merely lost control of his weapon.

'Whoa damn! Those people are really good it's a shame they could only accept one of them.'

The next match consisted of another male and a female both choosing a sword. When the match begun they charged at each other like the previous two and many others. A small clash started to gauge each other's strength started and ended as quickly as it began. They tested each other much quicker with only a few moves extremely efficient compared to the other two's little fight it took for them.

It had only been fifteen seconds since the start of the match and they already became serious on each side. The girl's Qi was a green while the man's was a red shade probably indicating a fire type Qi. The green on the other hand was probably a wind element which won't be too helpful to her at all. In fact her element might even be detrimental to her if used wrongly. Her wind might increase the intensity of his flames on accident in the heat of the moment.

She was in a disadvantage against this man, but what she to do? As they went for one another once again the swordsman unleashed a fiery skill of fire blades toward her. As expected she didn't retaliate with her wind Qi, but if this were to go on she would definitely lose. The first wave of fire blades were cut by her sword as the man saw he increased the number of blades produced slowly over whelming her.

Trying her best to defend herself, a few still managed to get past hitting her. Getting hit a few times she panicked a little seemingly forgetting her element's relationship with his. Her blade was covered with sharp winds. The moment it made contact with one of his fiery blades it increased in sized instead of scattering.

The blade of flames hit her before she could really react to it, sending her flying few meters back. She sent a few wind blades towards him once she stopped sliding and began getting back up. The wind blades were moderately difficult to see, but were still visible. Unfortunately for the swordsman as he walked over he was oblivious to the incoming attacks till the last moment. His hasty defense managed to block one, but they came together simultaneously. He only managed to block one, getting hit by the other two.

At this moment she sprung up over towards him trying to take advantage of the opening she created. The distance between the two was a bit too long though, she might have miscalculated how far she needed to go. By the time she was 80% of the way there he had already recovered. Her opportunity she created was mistimed in it's used, but wasn't entirely wasted as she managed to get close to him. The distance between the two wasn't originally too long in the first place so when he opened his eyes her sword was already upon him.

This time his defense couldn't be mustered quick enough and he was hit once more forcing him back a step. As she was preparing a strike he had already thrusted toward her. Not expecting him to recover so quickly she was caught off guard and was struck in the abdomen causing her to drop her weapon. Dropping to her knees she clutched her stomach as a tip of a blade appeared lifting her chin up.

The next few battles weren't so different in terms of action. Each one was filled with it and as each one passes the luckier I feel that I got the opponent I did. If I didn't and instead got any of the other contestants I might not have beaten them. The man that fought me was the only other person without any elemental Qi, besides myself of course. Everyone else has been able use their Elemental Qi and for quite the amount of time as well. I'm so glad I didn't have to fight those people for my entry.

During the next round my match with the next contestant will be purely one to see how well I can do against someone who knows what they're doing. Hopefully I can last at least a few exchanges with him or that would be really embarrassing.

As the next match starts our sect's beauty appears once more on stage. She's still wearing the corresponding white robe to mine. The one with silver embroidering at the edges, her outfits is just as neat and clean as when we first bought it. She looked flawless while walking over to her little standing point. On the other hand mine had a few tears around edges, a few stains here and there, and a few places where a slightly different shade of black cloth was sewn over.

"It-It's her, she's here!"

"She's even better in person!"

"I feel like I can finally die in peace after gazing upon her!"
