Chapter 11 - seasick

People say the first time you sail, you will definitely experience seasickness and that happened to me and it turned out that sailing was not as good as I imagined it was at the beginning everything was normal like we were riding a car on the highway but immediately the ship had started to go out to sea there was no island seen from the angle wherever there is only sea water that accompanies me and immediately I see a fairly high wave of waves hitting the front of the ship and the movement of the ship starts to become unstable starting to sway left and right that's where I start to feel the real challenge of sailing because the ship keeps shaking and the waves don't stop my head starts to get dizzy and I'm so sick that I can't eat anything, I want to keep throwing up, I don't know how many times I vomited until my whole body went limp, I couldn't even eat, I didn't want to force myself to vomit again, so I asked one of the crew about when the storm would end when the crew said 3 more days the new storm subsided and the waves returned to small.

With my condition like this, I don't know if I can survive or not, it feels like I can't do anything anymore. But luckily all of the crew continue to encourage me so that I can be strong to face all of this and slowly I try to eat to replenish the energy that has been lost, gradually I started to get used to this kind of condition and my condition started to fit again.

When I felt that my condition was good, I finally decided to go up to the learning platform to lay a map, operate the navigation tool and carry the ship at sea, I slowly learned all of it and gradually became proficient in using all the navigation tools until in the end I was able to bring my own ship and of course still accompanied by officers. I saw that in front of my ship sailing, many islands were visible indicating we would soon reach our destination, and sure enough the route on our ship map showed 10 more miles to our destination.

Tarakan was the first island that I visited on my first voyage, the island of Tarakan is located in the northern part of the island of Borneo and is directly adjacent to Malaysia. Slowly my ship began to enter the harbor I saw many other ships also passing by and planes flying right above our ship, with care our ship managed to dock at the port of Malinau Tarakan After the ship docked, I was invited by other crew members to walk out of the ship and I was introduced to the local residents and the crew on board, where the majority of the population is Christian and is filled with the Dayak Kenyah tribe, the indigenous people of Kalimantan.

It's very exciting and fun there we can chat without distinction of race or religion, exchange ideas and tell stories about each other's culture, because I am a new crew on board I was bullied by the ship's people and the residents there I was taught several regional languages โ€‹โ€‹in Kalimantan, I think that means well, it turns out that I was taught the Kalimantan language which is not polite and rude, if I told the native there I would be beaten to death, luckily I was told first what it means if I can't beat it.
