PARALLEL UNIVERSE: (noun) physics; according to quantum physics it is a universe theorized as existing alongside our own, although undetectable.
There have been times when humans experience something that they term as 'Deja-vu' in simple terms deja-vu can be explained as; when one feels as if he/she has been through a certain situation before and is happening again, while the fact remains that they are experiencing it for the first time in their reality. the simple explanation to this can be the existence of parallel universes. Maybe another you in another universe has already experienced what you are going through and so you get the feeling of it happening for the second time. This fact is as interesting as it is confusing, and it couldn't have been more confusing for Millie when she opened her eyes and caught herself staring at an unfamiliar ceiling. nursing an immense pain in her back bone she woke up with a grunt and squinted at the light entering through the window. shielding her eyes against the piercing sunrays, she studied her surrounding that she seemed someone's room. with cream colored walls, queen sized bed covered in plain light blue sheets and a wardrobe against the far left corner, it appeared to be a pretty ordinary room. as she was scrutinizing the room she left a monstrous pain slide through her head, it shredded through her nerves and pounded against her skull making it impossible for her to bear. Releasing a shrill scream she fell against the ground and gathered her tresses into her tight fists, pulling them to relieve the throbbing pain. Grunting while rolling around in a tight ball she gritted her teeth, "why is this happening, what is happening?" she wanted nothing more than to just succumb to the pain, it was too agonizing. "help!" the minute her lips let those words out she heard thunderous thumping against the floor and a pair barefooted legs with perfectly manicured purple colored nails appeared in front of her line of vision. Millie gingerly raised her head as fast as she could and her eyes clashed against two warm chocolate brown colored orbs articulately shaped into an almond encased in a perfectly sculpted pale heart shaped face, with a small button nose, pink thin lips and pretty purple hair falling against her shoulders, the girl was breath-takingly beautiful, Millie couldn't get her eyes to move away from the worry etched on the girl's face. She couldn't why but she wanted to hug the girl and get rid of the frown that was currently marring her pleasant features.
"Velia, are you okay?" her voice was soft and almost musical. she could spend hours listening to her voice. the girl got down to her feet and expertly carried Millie with cautious steps towards the bed. placing her down she once again asked her, "Velia, I asked you something, are you okay?". As soon as she heard the words come out, Millie's eyebrows creased into a frown and she slowly asked, "I am sorry, but maybe you have the wrong person. I am not Velia and could you please tell me where I am?". Maybe it was her answer responsible for the scared expression on the purple haired girl's face because Millie's answer seemed to scare her further. not able to understand the situation that she was in, she once again asked, "Where am i and who are you?"
Virushka's mind was a jumbled mess. her best friend was sitting right in front of her, the same round petite face, dark pixie hair falling over her sweaty forehead and the bright golden pools of her eyes that were like the warm sunshine after a thunderous rain, staring into hers. the exact same with only exception that they held no recognition of any sort. it was like she was her best friend but at the same time she wasn't, what was wrong with her? Virushka was still blaming herself for not being by her side when the 'three troublesome' were bullying Velia at school. she should have been there when they were mocking her, she should have been there when they were beating her and she definitely should have been there when they had cruelly pushed her into the lake. she should have been there. but now as she saw the person that she believed to be her bestfriend staring around the room with uncertainty , she was growing agitated and scared. She timidly placed her hand on her surprisingly warm tanned hands and Velia's eyes suddenly shifted to her pale hands that were covering hers. "what do you last remember?"
" I remember going to sleep, a-aand the-en a-a weird otter, wearing spectacles w-wwith a-a uhmmm...a weird painter name, piccollo or pichinio, i-i don't really remember, a-and then stupid mantra in latin I guess, I don't know what is going on, where is this place? where am I? and after I open my eyes I find myself in this room." At this point she was totally freaking out. Jumping off the bed she started pacing around, silently cursing the stupid otter and herself for believing the first talking animal she came across. Virushka stepped towards her frustrated friend and asked her the only question that seemed relevant in this situation, "What is your name?"
When Millie registered the question roll out of the purple headed girl's lips she came to a suddenly stop and glared directly into her brown eyes, without hesitating she confidently answered, "Millie, my name is Millie." as she uttered the first syllable, the girl's eyes filled with undeniable disappointment and she slumped on the bed as she released a frustrated breath. Her expression were somber and she noticed a small tear trace the expanse of her cheekbone as it fell on the floor, sinking Millie's heart. it was evident to her that the girl sad and she understand because she was stuck in this unfamiliar situation too wherein the only thing she wanted to do was hide and cry, she wanted to go back, heck she was so desperate that she even wished to see the devil cousins face's, she was in state wherein she was missing them too, a state she never thought she would ever experience. the girl suddenly got up from her position and walked towards Millie with brisk steps. Grabbing her left arm in her right hand she dragged her towards the mirror, "Look closely." paying heed to her desperate instruction she stared at her reflection. she saw nothing out off ordinary. it was her face, round tanned with a dimple on her chin, dark pixie hair, small ears, straight nose with slight bump, her golden eyes covered behind her hideous round rimmed glasses. the same plain, boring everyday face. "What exactly do you want me to see?" she asked dubiously, not understanding the motive behind this move. "Are you trying to play a game of self appreciation with me because let me make it very clear this s not the time to do -"
"Shush" she rudely interrupted, "What do you see."
"duh, me."
"so, you are saying that there is nothing out off ordinary?" she asked with a skeptical expression on her face. Millie was wondering if this girl was always this cynical or was she just special to her.
"Yes."
"But how is this possible." the girl started mumbling and now was pacing around the room. With every passing second Millie was growing even more confused and she wanted answers and she wanted them fast.
"Will you stop mumbling and tell me exactly where is that wannabe painter/nerdy spectacle wearing otter? WHO ARE YOU? AND WHERE AM I?"
"I don't know about an otter. I am your best friend Virushka and you are in Amortesia."
okay Millie definitely had not expected for the girl to answer her so quickly, she had to register her words in her mind and then cautiously process them, "You are my best friend?"
"Yes, but you don't seem to remember that." Virushka replied with a blank expression on her face.
"That's because I am not who you think I am."
"And what do 'I' think 'you' are?" she chided.
"Ugh." Millie slumped down on the floor. She wasn't able to understand and neither was she able to analyze the situation she was currently stuck in. questions bombarded every corner of her mind and she didn't know where to start. Seeing her weak state Virushka's heart melted for the girl who was kneeling in front of her, she wanted to comfort her but didn't know how and therefore she did the only thing that seemed appropriate at the moment, sitting besides her on the floor she cautiously placed her hand on her shoulder and asked, "now, slowly tell me exactly what you remember."
taking a deep breath she said, "my name is Millie and I was at my cousin's place for the summer break, we had our dinner and then i went to my bedroom. I was sleeping in my bedroom and all of a sudden this otter by the name of Picasso came into my room and dragged me to the garage, wherein he opened this portal of some sort, asked me to repeat a mantra after him, and then this blue light appeared and i landed here in front of you."
"So you are from somewhere else."
Virushka noticed the girl's thick eyebrows wrinkle in confusion, "This isn't some sci-fi movie, wherein I possibly became a total different person, next thing you know, you are telling me that i am in a parallel universe." she tried to joke but seeing Virushka's serious expression, the smile that had made an appearance on her face dropped like a child who had lost its last lollipop.
"And yet here we are. " Virushka replied. listening to her confession Millie was finally freaking out, her mind had officially gone crazy and she wanted to run from the room like a mad person. "BB-UT HH-HOW I-IS T-T-HHIS POSSIBLE." she struggled to get the words out off her mouth. how in the heck could she land in a parallel universe. It only ever happened in books, she had always wished for it but now that it was actually happening she cursed the moment she had made that stupid wish, oh how she wanted to go back to the Millers, she had never missed them so much.
"I don't know how it happened or why it did, but right now you are my bestfriend and till the time that you are here, you have to act like her, i promise we will get you and my best friend back to their original places." a mischievous smile appeared on Virushka's face as she stepped towards her and put her arms on Millie's shoulder, "And so, Velia, welcome to The land of love, Amortesia."
