Reaching the hospital room, Liling anxiously looked at the doctor and asked," Doctor, what is happening to my baby?! Why am I bleeding?!" "Calm down Mrs Jing please," he told her. "Calm down?! I can't calm down! Am I losing it?" she asked desperately. "Bring a sedative," the doctor told the nurse.
"No! Don't put me to sleep please. First tell me in which state my baby is!" Liling pleaded. "You will need it," he said then the nurse injected the dose in her arm and she finally drifted off to sleep.
Jing Yue arrived at the hospital as soon as he could. Asking for his wife, he was told that they were working on her. He placed back and forth, unable to sit down. He just hoped she doesn't lose the baby because he knew that more than him, she would be so devastated.
It was after a long while later when the doctor came out and he rushed to him.
"Doctor? How is my wife?!" "I will need you to come to my office," he said and walked away. Jing Yue glanced at the room where Liling was and he finally decided to follow the doctor.
"Doctor please. Tell me now I'm so nervous! How is my wife doing?!" he asked when he reached his office. "Have a seat please," he said. "I can't sit without knowing the state of my wife." "Your wife is alright," he informed and Jing Yue took a deep breath before sitting down.
"What about our baby?" he asked. "I have good news and bad news," he said. "Start with good news please," said Jing Yue. "Alright. Your wife is not only expecting one baby but three babies. She's carrying triplets."
"What?!" asked Jing Yue standing up. "Yes. She's carrying three children. Two girls and a boy," he informed. "Oh my goodness! I can't believe this," he stated, speechless at the moment. A while later, he asked," Does she know of these great news?" "No. She's still sleeping," he replied. "I will go and inform her," he said walking towards the door. "Mr Jing Yue, we haven't finished yet," the doctor informed him and he paused.
"I have to tell you something else," he said and Jing Yue came back to take his seat.
"What is it doctor?" he asked.
"Your wife has a high risk pregnancy. She has a placenta abnormality called placental abruption."
He frowned and asked," What is that?"
"In this case, the placenta separates from the wall of the uterus and the baby might not get enough oxygen and nutrient supply," he explained.
"Does it mean that our babies are in danger?" he asked. "Your wife too is in danger," said the doctor. He frowned and asked," What causes this?" "Unfortunately, the complication doesn't have a main cause," he stated.
Jing Yue became more worried and asked," What are we going to do now doctor?" "For the moment I will ask her to quit working and also have proper rest. She should avoid anything that might stress her," he said. "Is that all?" he asked. "No. I will prescribe some medicine for her and I will be expecting her to come for a check up after every two weeks."
"But, will she be okay?" he asked. "Hopefully yes. We shall see how she will be."
Jing Yue left the office and went to the room where Liling was sleeping. Right now, he was thinking about a lot of things. If the pregnancy was putting Liling's life in danger, then maybe they should wait until she makes six months then put the babies in the incubator. But he doubted Liling will accept it. He loved his babies but Liling's health was his top priority.
He then remembered that he hadn't informed his parents and called them, only to inform them that they were expecting triplets. As expected, they were so happy. He then called their friends, sparing the part of the high risk pregnancy.
When Liling woke up, he immediately ran to her side and helped her sit down, placing a pillow at her back so that she could be comfortable. "Jing Yue, what happened to our baby?" was the first thing she asked. "You don't have to worry about anything. Our babies are fine." "Really?" she asked. "Yes." "Babies?" she asked. "Yes. We are expecting three babies Liling."
Her eyes widened in shock and she said," It cannot be true." "Yes it is. You're pregnant with triplets," he said. "What?" she covered her belly with both hands. "Yes love but.. there's something else you need to know."
"What?" she asked smiling, still excited about the news. "The doctor said that the pregnancy is of high risk." "What? Why's that?" she asked. "I don't know. You will have to quit working for a while and we also have to report for check ups every after two weeks."
She nodded and said," Anything for my babies. Does Li Fei know of these great news?"
"Yes I informed her and my parents too. They are all so happy," he said.
As days passed, Jing Yue realized that Liling's health was deteriorating. She was ever in pain although she had left work and it troubled him.
At night when she was done with taking her usual medicine, he helped her get into bed and as they slept, Jing Yue said," My love, I have a suggestion." "Tell me about it," she said. "I've realized that your condition is worsening and I don't like it."
"It will end. Just a few months left," she said.
"No my love I have a better idea. Why don't we get the babies out of you when you make six months? They will grow in- " "That won't happen Jing Yue," she interrupted him.
"It is better Liling. Your health is deteriorating with every passing day. They will safely grow in the incubator." "I don't want to put my babies through that. I will be fine. I think I'm like this because I'm carrying more than one child," she said and coughed afterwards.
"Let's go with my idea Liling. Listen, If anything happens to you, I can't promise to love our children," he said.
